Hi,

my s type diesel has a coolant leak which came up as an advisory on the mot.

I have taken to the garage to be sorted but after it has been there a week they tell me that they can see the coolant leaking but are not

able to tell where its coming from.

I feel i maybe should take the car elsewhere and wondered if anyone is able to recommend a garage in the Nuneaton,Warwickshire area that has

experience with this problem.

Many Thanks

Graham

After further investigation the car is uneconomical to repair, picking up the car today and then it looks like its on its way to the

scrappy,great shame but thats life.

Hi Graham

Are we talking about an external leak which is dripping on the floor or coolant level dropping with no obvious source? If advised at MOT I assume it is an external leak. If that is the case it is hard to imagine what would make it irrepairable. The system is a reservoir, hoses / expansion tank, radiator, pump etc. Only thing that would make me consider scrapping an otherwise good car (particulalry if it is only an MOT advisory) would be heater matrix which can be expensive in labour to replace due to its access problems. Have you tried some radweld or other sealant?

Hi John,

The leak is from the coolant pipes,it is down to the cost that will be involved to find which pipe it is.

It requires a strip down to locate the offending items(s) and i am not prepared  to take a risk in

not knowing what the final cost will be.

I have seen that these coolant pipes are notorious for poor quality and with one costing £250 and it could be one

of many.

I have tried k-seal but to no avail.

Many thanks for your input.

Find someone who has an endoscope to find the leak  or that uses an additive to see the leak with UV. Ask around for an Honest Indie.

I have a 2.7D and as someone else stated, only the heater matrix leaking could be uneconomical. I reckon they are trying to rip you off!

Good Luck!

Remember prices are on the Up!, You and others scrap theirs, we have more spares and the cars get rarer!!!!!

I may have misled everyone by saying "uneconomical" to repair, apologies.I should have said that having looked at the cost of replacement i am

not sure i want to payout.

The indie i took it to did not charge me for stripping down the ancilliaries(and putting them back) to try and locate the leak.

The decision for me is based on whether i wish to keep the car as there are so many of these out there,it will be a long time

before these reach Maestro and Montego price rises:blowup:

Thanks for everyones input, maybe a 4.2 V8 should be next.
