Good evening.

I go by the name of Dos. I have had from new a Jaguar 3.0l D XF-S, mod year 2010.5 Premium Luxury. I admit to NOT being very computer savvy and joined the first forum I came across when I bought the car. In my view It became rather political in content and I lost interest. I came across this forum while searching about cam belt changes. I do have a problem but feel it is rather cheeky to ask for help on arrival. I'll try to search for the correct topic section soon.

My best regards to you all. Dos, from Cambridge.

Dos

Welcome. You will find no political situations on this forum. As far as I am aware, nobody will mind you asking questions and you will quite likely get some good advice. If I were you I would go ahead and ask the question/s you want to.

Best Wishes and Regards, John

Welcome to the club, Dos.

Looking at what you said about cam belt changes I am guessing that your car has a diesel engine. If  so, your car will be looking  at a cam belt change at 10 years or 100,000 miles.

My s type Diesel has about 85,000 miles and 15 years but also with an engine change at a dealers error 12 years ago.  I was advised by a first class mechanic who has been maintaining my cars for 20 years that my cam belt was in perfect condition after 12 years.

It could be that your car has a similar position so I would have a good mechanic look at your engine and make some advice after.

Regards,

Peter.

Good Morning to you all and thanks for the warm welcome.

My car: 2010.5 MY,  XF-S 3.0 ltr Diesel, Premium luxury, 59,000miles now.

Yes, the timing belt and tensioner are due for replacement. A little history; for a few years I've been the full time carer for my wife (Parkinson's 22 years) and used the main dealer "collect and return" facility since I'm too old for a courtesy car. Covid stopped collect and return. I'm now on my own and would have gone to Jagu Tech Ely (Cambs) but chemo prevents this now. So, I was hoping to find a reputable Independent who is able to collect and return and do the necessary work. I doubt I'll be driving for a while so perhaps there is no rush.

I'm on the south side of Cambridge city.

Kind regards, Roger.

Hi Dos,

I hope you can find a good independent dealer to keep your car going.

I am sorry about the loss of your wife and I hope you settle in you home OK.

I am quite lucky in that my wife is still going well at 80 and I am just thinking how all would be if either one of us loses the other. I am now 87 and still fit [I hope].

Regards,

Peter.

Hello Peter.

I'm almost out of this world , the chemo effect is awful, dizzy ,foggy headed and more. I should have included more in my post regarding my and Joan's situation, my fault entirely. Peter, PLEASE,PLEASE, do not feel guilty. Joan had to go into care in November; she's not over the moon about it but some things we cannot change.

Due to her I've had a charmed life, Wifey has worshipped the ground I walked on almost from the day I took her home from a dance on  my BSA  B33 in 1958. She was 16 and one week, we married when she was 20 and one week; a chilly St Patrick's Day.

Clearly we are of the same generation, your post uplifted me, thankyou, made me feel we had been friends for years. I could be squeezing 87 in a couple of years. May I wish you and your Lady continued happiness, thank each other for even the little things and keep loving each other, it is worth it's weight in gold.

Regards

Roger.

Hi Dros--I lost my wife last June after being married for 47yrs we deeply love each other, she was 89 and I am 83

and like you said the love is worth it's weight in gold.

Hi my user name is (bruno26) Bruce to my friends. I live in Hornchurch which is in Essex. I am now retired from my profession, which was a geologist. I have owned  a 2006 Jaguar X type estate for some 9 years. The problem with updating the car is how do I follow this because we love it. The main problem is paying the garage continuously for niggling  repairs. Therefore the car unfortunately may have to go.

Jaguar X type 2006 estate where is the ERG valve located? Apparently the AA said it is blocking and needs either cleaning or replacing.  The glow plug light intermittently flashes and the Engine management light came on. Hence I called out the AA who said the ERG is giving problems. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Hi Bruce,

Welcome to Jaguar Owners Club.

There are some good videos on You tube about cleaning EGR they may help

here is one.

Kind regards,

Julie.
