Jaguar S Type 2004 V6 3.0 - just bought

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I hope I'm posting this in the right place....

Have just bought this car having owned one for 8 years a long time ago.......

First impressions are good but like any purchase of an 18 year old vehicle, a few niggling issues that need addressing over time:

1) rear parking sensors don't work

2) petrol gauge is a bit unpredictable - sometimes goes off then re-sets to normal reading

3) performance - I may be looking through rose-tinted specs but it seems a bit sluggish- starts well, and once at motorway speed  it's fine, but through the gears not the usual acceleration, Sport mode disappointing too.....

4) usual cloudy headlights - someone suggested toothpaste? lol

Any tips, suggestions would be really appreciated- sorry the list is so long

Hi had one of these before I went for the Xf s type a good car as for your gearbox problem a good flush out and a new filter and proper gearbox Oil should do the trick as for headlights toothpaste doesn’t really work a good cutting compound does the trick a lot of jag forums are good to check out with any underlying problems a good car which is starting to rise in price now so worth holding onto and spend a few quid on her

Not certain that, even the best maintained S-Types, are actually rising in price.

Hi

rear parking sensors, either a bad sensor or a dodgy module, especially if the boot gets damp

petrol gauge may be a dodgy fuel level sender, theres one each side, check the connections, just needs the back seat lifting, you can put the dash on these in diagnostic mode to test all the gauges on the dash

performance would start with a good service and go from there, rear plugs are under the plenum, so they dont always get changed,

sport mode can be down to how it ws driven previously, if left in sport mode when driving slow it adapts to that driving style, in sport it raises shift points and should drop a few gear when floored and go all the way to the red before changing gear, if it working right. Again a good service works wonders, some people avoid as service part for the zf 6hp26 not cheap, avoid cheaper pattern kits, they always leak and cheap Oil causes all sorts of problems.

cloudy headlights get your self a 3m headlight restore kit off eBay, about 25 quid, will bring them back to new, all you need is a drill and some masking tape to protect the paintwork

if you need any workshop or electrical manuals look here http://www.jagrepair.com/

cheers

Joe
