Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT π And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well π For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 π4 points

I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.4 points

Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued,becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both π Nil carborundum illigitimum.4 points

Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever π . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .3 points

...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers π It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.3 points

Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!3 points

Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.3 points

It's a car that I've coveted since their introduction and have now realised an ambition of owning one. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')3 points

Owned my new Jaguar for 3 weeks , wasn't expecting a Jag to be my first car but something just felt right about it! Itβs a Jaguar X type 3.0 v6 sovereign edition! If someone could maybe advise how rare these are (if they are in anyway!) and if they are sought after that would be great? As noticed not many for sale and registered , Happy to have joined!2 points

If you can, find another headlamp and unplug your offside/drivers headlamp and plug the wiring into the "spare" unit. If the fault persists, it's not the headlamp, if the DRL comes up bright on the spare unit then it's the light unit. However, you may find if the spare is bright, the original might "miraculously" become bright - this points to corroded/dirty connections within the plugs.2 points

Dim lights usually points to a poor earth connection. Check the earth point for corrosion on the relevant headlight. N6 JMX2 points

Had my car in for it's MOT today, apart from advisories on tyres which are getting replaced next week anyway and rear brake pads which are getting replaced during the service, it had a clean bill of health. Very happy with that, I've owned the car for 12 months and only had to put fuel in it. π2 points

Hi everyone, I've recently bought a black V6 3l AWD estate X-Type for a fairly low price. The interior looks like new. The exterior is not bad either, but the chassis is quite rusty. It comes from Switzerland so maybe the salty winter roads are to be blamed for that. I have several things to do to get it up to shape and I hope I'll find some answers in that forum π All the bests!2 points

Hi Ian Stop/Start is quite a marmite function. Most people love it or hate it. Potential negatives are usually related to engine and/or starter wear and tear. Most engine and starter pinion wear is at start up, however stop/start actually pre-engages the starter pinion so not really an issue. The middle position is people not liking not being in control or insecurity that engine will start again π Positives are that it does reduce emissions (the actual rationale for its introduction). If it engages you know your battery/batteries are OK as it will not engage if it is not sure it can restart the car. Personally I let it engage at least once each journey before disabling as this confirms batteries are OK. If going anywhere when car is to be left for a few days I would always disable as the XF does conduct occasional self tests of the battery which involves discharging to 75% capacity. My concern is always that id gets to that point just before I park up so instead of starting with 100% I would be starting with 75% π As you may know the XF along with many modern cars does seem to suffer from parasitic drain so I only leave mine for a week at most before attaching my ctek. I seem to have fixed it ! Replaced the memory switch on the door and immediately had the correct operation of the memory functions, but still no drivers seat forward and back movement with the engine running. At this point, I thought that I was still going to need to use SDD to diagnose and possibly have to replace the seat module. Then I thought, what if it has a stored fault code generated by the faulty memory switch ? Connected my code reader and, sure enough, B1B88 was showing. Cleared the code and all working fine since then.2 points

hi all new member got a 2.2d estate absalutley luv it but by god is it a handfull , like the forth rail bridge just finish one end then go bvack to the start.rebuilt front suspension done the sills now getting into the engine niggles looking forward to a long relationship nice to meet you all2 points

Well I'm feeling chuffed with myself! Like many S owners I have experienced the dreaded headlamp droop, I managed to get a second hand pair and fitted them, but although working, I was conscious that due to their age, that they too could droop at any time, and that they are cloudy, I had been apprehensive about repairing them myself, however after trawling through the how to vids on Utube I decided to bite the bullet, I bought a set of new adjusters online and a headlamp polishing kit, totaling Β£30 put the headlamps in a pre heated oven at 80c for 20 minutes, resting on some wood to avoid any hot spots, They came apart easier than I had anticipated, I used fresh microfibre cloths to to polish the inside of the perspex, and warm breath and cloth for the silver, fitted the new adjusters, re assembled them, back in the oven for 20 minutes, bingo, all back together. I then set about polishing the lenses, with the polishing kit 800, 1000, 1500, 3000, grade, then polishing compound, and finally sealer. I must say, although not perfect for my first attempt I'm very pleased, the transformation is excellent. From removal to re installing took around 6 hours! π For some reason the left side of the bumper wouldn't let go! I have shown the car with the lights on, the right is refurbished, the left isn't the left is diffused because of the foggy lense, I hope this article gives others the courage to have ago as it save a lot of money! I'm now going to refurbish the second pair so that I have spares in case of a mishap!2 points

Probably but 2016 is only a year behind 2015 in terms of ageing and fading. Why not just revive your existing headlamps using T-Cut or one of the headlamp renovation kits available online? Would be cheper and much less grief in the long run and you won't need to come back next year and ask if 2017 headlamps will fit a 2015 car and so on. π π2 points

Dear Jaguar lovers, I am a new member and seeking your advice. I am about to purchase my very first Jaguar XF. Unfortunately I donβt have anyone who can advise me on what things should I check before purchase, so hoping for your knowledgeable opinion. I found what seems like a perfect car for me, 2017 portfolio XF with 2.0 diesel engine, with 47k miles on the clock. What potential issues can come up at this mileage and age? What should I check/ask the dealer for before purchase? from my online research I gathered that the display sometimes may be lagging so I will definitely check that, apart from that I found that timing belt/chain should be replaced at some point around that mileage as well as oil in the gearbox (itβs automatic) how much do these usually cost. also, how much on average do you spend on servicing your XFs? Iβm very keen to buy this car, but just want to ensure I do all checks possible for smooth driving as well trying to get better understanding how much will I need to have a side for regular maintenance. I look forward for your advice and thank you in advance2 points

Hi Sofia, I bought a 2017 XF-S last year, my second XF (first was a 2011). Only problem so far is glow-plugs not working (cold weather only!), not sure if it's the plugs or the controller, but I need to get it seen to before next winter! BTW, I'm an Essex boi too, from Tilbury, now living in Sussex, where you at? Good luck with your XF - they're great! J2 points
