  4. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT πŸ˜‰ And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well πŸ˜‰ For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 πŸ™‚

  5. I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.

  6. Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued, becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both πŸ™‚ Nil carborundum illigitimum.

  7. If I was a religious individual I'd be on my knees saying thank you. We've now had confirmation that Marion's breast cancer has not in fact returned. We both send thanks to those who wished us well recently πŸ™‚

  8. I enjoy looking in the members gallery and encourage other JOC members to post photos of their Jag, I thought a thread of Front Ends would be good to see, with a little detail if you wish. Here’s my XF which I purchased in October 2023.

  10. ...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers πŸ™‚ It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.

  16. Hello from North Somerset. I have just bought (and fell in love with) a 2009 2.2 X Type. I’m looking forward to browsing the forums and hopefully being able to sort out the few very minor niggles with what I’m sure is going to be a great car. I would also be very interested in any meets that may be in my area.

  19. Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!

  20. Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.

  21. Just like to say hello from North Lincolnshire. I've recently become an owner of a beautiful 2015 Jaguar Xf. It's a car that I've coveted since their introduction and have now realised an ambition of owning one. Thanks for accepting my request to join the forum, I'm looking forward to learning lots from you very knowledgeable guys.

  24. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')

  28. Had my car in for it's MOT today, apart from advisories on tyres which are getting replaced next week anyway and rear brake pads which are getting replaced during the service, it had a clean bill of health. Very happy with that, I've owned the car for 12 months and only had to put fuel in it. 😁

  30. Hi Sheela, With an 8 year old battery it is simply waiting to fail. These modern cars have so many electronics going on in the background that the quiescent battery drain can be quite high and a car like yours left to sit around for a week or so will have a low battery - even when the battery is relatively new. The recommendation is typically to replace the battery in a Modern Jaguar at 5 years. If I were in your position, I would be looking for a new battery replacement and ensure you get a premium battery for a premium car, AND from a reliable supplier. There have been a number of reports of batteries failing after only a few months, so you want the back-up of a premium supplier for a no quibble exchange. Note that if you plan to change the battery yourself, then the car's ECU needs to be "informed" via a Jaguar diagnostics system that a new battery is in place in order that it can reset the charging rates, N6 JMX

  33. As an S-Type owner, you'll be aware (I guess) of how sensitive the electronics is to low battery voltage. You'll maybe not know though, what you're expected to do after dis-connecting and re-connecting the battery. I've put together a PDF document which takes you through the procedure step by step. Nothing that isn't readily available elsewhere but just gathered together and (in my view) logically ordered into a single reference. It also includes how to get the audio system working when you don't have the security code I've been asked for it so many times that I though I'd make a thread just for access to that document so here it is:- Battery reset.pdf

  34. A small word of warning on the use of the one touch fob button for roof raise and lower. Whilst it is a nice trick, the recommendation is NEVER raise or lower the roof of a convertible without the engine running. i.e. don't rely on the battery to do the work. Batteries in the X-150 have a hard life and I have always recommended that the battery be replaced at 5 years old. Many, many spurious faults arise from a poor battery and in today's world, the ability to start the car is not the best indication of its health.

  39. Hi everyone, I've recently bought a black V6 3l AWD estate X-Type for a fairly low price. The interior looks like new. The exterior is not bad either, but the chassis is quite rusty. It comes from Switzerland so maybe the salty winter roads are to be blamed for that. I have several things to do to get it up to shape and I hope I'll find some answers in that forum πŸ™‚ All the bests!

  41. I seem to have fixed it ! Replaced the memory switch on the door and immediately had the correct operation of the memory functions, but still no drivers seat forward and back movement with the engine running. At this point, I thought that I was still going to need to use SDD to diagnose and possibly have to replace the seat module. Then I thought, what if it has a stored fault code generated by the faulty memory switch ? Connected my code reader and, sure enough, B1B88 was showing. Cleared the code and all working fine since then.

  42. For sale - Trigger`s antique broom? 1st reg Feb 2009 this car shows mileage of 198,000 but ...... A replacement Short Engine has only done 75,000. Coolant Rail, Aux Drive Belt, Water Pump, Radiator Fan A/C Condensor and Supercharger Nose Cone have done 35,000. Both Fuel Pumps have done 29,000. The Alternator has done 28,000. All engine Timing Chains and Fuel Pump Camshaft have done have done 25,000 and both Fuel Injector Rails have only done 8,000. The XKR 5ltr is a phenomenal car and this is a great opportunity to get one you can trust. I`ll be fully open about it`s history and also about what it might need next. I`m open to offers around Β£9,000 to Β£10,000

  43. With such a low annual mileage for a Diesel I would be inclined to use an injector cleaner additive and then take it for a good long run at fairly high (but legal) speed.May be a build up of contamination caused by long standing period.

  46. Welcome aboard Paul, similar colour to my S Type (obviously older than yours) but you must be proud to achieve your ambition. They're a knowledgeable lot on here, unlike many other prestige car forums the usual advice isn't "take it to your dealer", proper practial helpful advice is given that can often fix problems without (expensive) dealer intervention. Enjoy your Jag! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜„

  47. Quick update. Still waiting for the ombudsman to rule on the Β£500 untraceable driver email. My car was advertised and sold on 'Copart' salvage auctions as a category 'N' (non structural) write off. There were no pictures on their website showing the damage to the inner sill and rear wheel / suspension. I will wait and see if it turns up for sale on Autotrader or Ebay ! For anyone that's interested, I have decided to replace it with a 2010 XFR that my friend is selling.

  48. Hi Sofia, I bought a 2017 XF-S last year, my second XF (first was a 2011). Only problem so far is glow-plugs not working (cold weather only!), not sure if it's the plugs or the controller, but I need to get it seen to before next winter! BTW, I'm an Essex boi too, from Tilbury, now living in Sussex, where you at? Good luck with your XF - they're great! J

  49. Hi all ,changed N/S & O/S rear door glass quarter seals due them being perished and split easy job 10 mins per side the parts are available at Rimmer Bros N/S -C2Z10105 Β£38:48 O/S -C2Z10104 Β£36:69 not cheap I know and different price depending on what side ,but I am fussy and every time I cleaned the car it bothered me to change you just have to remove seal no need to disassemble any glass or door, just remove ,clean area ,I used a little washing up liquid as a lubricant to fit new seal to prevent any tearing of rubber whilst fitting and you just push it back into ridge of the door as the other came from job done βœ… thanks Dan
