  1. Taking my cat to Tipperary tomorrow for my MiL's 96th birthday party on Sunday. Love the Irish roads, unsure about the M4 tho! Cat is full of Fancy Texaco diesel and a shot of Miller's Oil, aiming for 50mpg (some hopes!). Just hope Stena Line are on time 😕
  2. Hi Arthur, I buy from www.latestsatnav.co.uk; discs are about £30 and (at least in my experience) work perfectly! Cheers, Jon

    Tyres

Hi Pete, As I keep reminding myself (in terror!), when I bought my 2011 XF-S (15 months ago), it had Chinese 'Triangle' tyres fitted. Horrendous! Quickly swapped for Pirelli P-Zero Assymetrico, immediate improvement! They were about £200 a corner at KwikFit (235/35x20), which I thought was reasonable. Rears will need replacing soon (too much S mode for the gearbox!!!). Apparently, the Pirellis are what Jaguar recommended at the time the car was made. Hope this helps and good luck with your search. Cheers, Jon
  4. BTW, I do have a heavy right foot too!!! 🙂 J
  5. Hi Dennis, 21 isn't good 😞 I get about 28mpg locally and up to high 40s on a long run. There must be something that can be adjusted or fixed to cure this. I'm no expert, but maybe someone else here can suggest a cure! Cheers, Jon
  6. Hi Vincent, Are you certain it's suspension related, or could it be something loose in the compartment under the boot/trunk floor? I had a similar experience, which turned out to be the battery retaining bracket bolt sheering, allowing the battery to bounce around! Good luck! Jon
  7. Hi Dennis, Mine (2011 XF-S 3.0D) always idles at 750rpm. Cheers, Jon
  8. Just checked my handbook. It does say that Bluetooth music is supported (haven't tried it yet though!) Cheers, Jon
  9. Hi Neil, I have a 2011 XF-S (3.0L Diesel). Locally I get high 20s and on long motorway trips with cruise control set to 70 (ish!!!), I get high 40s, even 54 once, on the M6 in the 50-limited roadworks. What clobbers mine is stop-start queuing as it doesn't have auto stop/start and turning the engine off clobbers the stereo and climate control. However, I'm sure that whichever you go for, you'll enjoy it. One tip though: don't sweat too much over fuel consumption - they're meant to be driven!!! All the best, Jon
  10. Hi Matthew, I can only relate my experiences with my 2011 XF-S Portfolio... Definitely has DAB Searching can be slow, but once complete, reception seems to be rock-solid However, there are many 'bands' (or whatever they're called!) and they seem to be related to your location when searching Bluetooth audio does work in mine (with an iPhone 10), although mainly I play my ancient iPod via USB or CDs and, of course the DAB Not sure if any of that will help with your dilemma if it simply refuses to work as you would like, but good luck anyway - there are many other things to enjoy about an XF! Cheers Jon
  11. Hi Roy, I bought my 2011 XF-S just over a year ago; had two problems... Awful grip due to cheap Chinese tyres Vibration from the front wheels when braking First was a no-brainer - 4x Pirelli P-Zeros, sorted! Second was a bit more challenging to my pocket, namely new discs and pads for the front, but now completely fixed. Sounds like you have a different problem though, as mine only vibrated when braking. Could you, maybe, have a damaged wheel? Or just a duff tyre? I wish you the best of luck, and hope to hear of a resolution. Cheers, Jon
  12. Hi Ray! I beat you by just 4 years! Always wanted one, had to be a red one and a fast(ish) one! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I'm enjoying mine. Cheers, Jon
  13. Hi Paul, I just took my XF out for a spin... Initially no air from any vents. Heated windscreen and back window came on automagically though. After a couple of miles, screen heaters went off and warm air came from the outer & middle front vents on the right; nothing on the left at all! However, when my speed-limiter is sitting in the front passenger seat, she's always complaining about warm air from her vents, so goes a little wild with temperature settings (20 on my side, 16 on hers) that obviously confuses things when she gets too cold and cranks it up again! Maybe the car is sensing the presence of someone on the front passenger seat??? These cars are just too clever, never know what tricks they have! But we love 'em!!! I appreciate this may not deal with your problem - sorry - but mine does just the same when there's no front seat passenger Cheers, Jon
  14. Hi Garry, I used AutoDNA when I bought my XF just over a year ago; you can get the car's history and original specs in one place. Only problem is, you need the VIN, not just the reg and it costs a couple of £s. Cheers, Jon
  15. Hi Paul, I think it's the bulb that comes on as you turn or indicate to light-up the corner you're about to take. A precursor to 'bendy' headlights, I reckon, but it was very common on USA hire cars back in the day as well. Cheers, Jon
  16. Hi Martin, I too was a bit surprised by the absence of a temp gauge - never seen that before! Even my first ever car (a 1965 Ford Anglia) had one! But as far as overheating risk goes, I'd probably notice a warning message sooner than a gauge creeping up, so maybe not such a bad idea after all. What I do miss is knowing when the engine warmed up enough to really 'GO' after a cold start - I don't like to rag it while still cold. Good luck with the diagnostics. Cheers, Jon
  17. Hi Nigel, I have a 2011 3.0L XF-S. I do lots of local runs in town and country lanes; that gives me high 20's mpg. Quite often we take the car across to Ireland, and on the drive to West Wales I get high 40s. Briefly saw 54mpg on the M4 as well! I took Peter's advice some time ago and use premium diesel with regular shots of the Millers Oil additive. Enjoy your XF! Cheers, Jon
  18. Hi Elliott, I think your 'S' badges & grille have been upgraded along the way! I really like them, but my XF is so original, maybe it would be a shame to swap them, might change my mind though. Good luck with the noise issue! Cheers, J
  19. Hi Elliott, Try it in 'S' and 'trac dsc' mode! Your hair will curl!!! J
  20. Hi Paul, The tyre pressure warning seems to be very sensitive! I had it tell me off when my front right tyre was just 1psi low when cold! Regen has not yet (fingers crossed) raised its ugly head! Lovely cars though!!! J
  21. Hi Karl, Can't really comment since I have no experience of such a noise (mine is a 2011 XF-S), Despite the service history, it might still be a wheel bearing, mebbe? Also, mine came with dodgy tyres (quickly replaced!), maybe a cause? Cheers, Jon
  22. OK, a bit of a mission to get my iPhone to talk to my PC, but this is what mine sounds like from a cold start! Enjoy and be kind ! J! Cat2.mov
