The cat did eventually cure the problem. That was the last stage of many including inlet manifold removed to fit new plugs and new ignition coils and six new manifold gaskets. Also previous to the inlet off I had fitted both new Lambdas (one at a time and testing after each individual Lambda was fitted. The car had a slight misfire before my P0420 codes started. That in itself can kill the Cat, which it eventually proved had happened.

Word of advice if you decide to go a similar route: always use genuine manifold gaskets (Jaguar, in my engine there were six separate gaskets), always use Denso Lambda`s (Denso being OE equipment) and always purchase a good quality/dearer Catalytic Converter.  Cheap East Asian products do not work well on Jaguar engines.

If any other advice needed or questions to ask, please feel free to contact me.

Good Luck with sorting your problem.

    Best Wishes and Regards, John

Now keep getting intermittent  P0420 readings, even after all I have done.

ANY IDEAS FROM ANYONE / ANYWHERE

    Cheers , John

OK all you F Pace owners out there, I’ve just sent an LBA, Letter Before Action, to the Main JLR Dealer who sold me an 18 month old  F Pace that had  pitting and corrosion on the rear discs at 12400 miles. I’m fed up with the appalling response from both JLR and the Dealer in not accepting that it’s a Warranty issue. The fact that corrosion has been ‘allowed’ to exist and not abraded on the first application of the brakes,  and the undeniable fact that the pads  are not making full face contact with the discs as designed is evidence in itself of some sort of malfunction – and I intend pursuing this through the Courts under the Consumer Rights Act with reference to durability. So I’m asking for all you F Pace owners who have vehicles that have had this issue, whether resolved under Warranty or denied as a  justifiable claim, to private message me with details. Model, age, mileage, advice or contributory payment received from JLR, resolved under warranty, or denied etc. etc.

It's about time this issue was more widely discussed!

    Your co-operation is appreciated. Regards,

    Kevin

Well done. This Forum gets many submission (which you would be well advise to check) regarding Jaguar and F Pace Warranty. There have been a couple in the last few days even.

Wish you well with your approach to Jaguar.  Best Wishes and Regards, John

selling a full set of refurbished BBS detroit alloys c/w new stainless trims and rim bolts. The wheels come with a set of new Pirelli P zero tyres.

    The wheels look like new

Looking for £2500 (what it cost me)

    George

I think a few more details of the wheels like what they will fit, what size they are, photos etc, etc, may help on this submission.

Thanks. I have been looking into each cars history.  They all seem pretty good, some with higher previous owners.  Just that none have any proof of belts being changed unfortunately.

Perhaps you should factor into your intended budget, or negotiations to purchase, the consideration that you may have to have the Cambelt and associated items replaced just to be on the safe side and for peace of mind. Far better to be safe than sorry as a cambelt failure could lead to major repair bills.

As for the years? The cars I've been looking at are around 80,000 and 11 years old.

    Jay

Although age and mileage are important, what is probably more important is that the car you buy should have a provable, recorded service history. Previous MOT`s and advisories  will also often provide interesting history.

Good Luck with your purchase and Regards, John

I have recently purchased my XF and refueled twice and each time I have a white vapour or smoke coming from the filler inlet, is this a normal or have I a problem?

I personally would suggest that it is going to be a vapour and not smoke. Smoke would suggest fire/burning/ignition, which I would have thought would have had further more devastating outcome than just an escape when the fuel filler is opened. I agree that it it is likely to be a sign of water. If it is water its source will have to be traced or at sometime you are going to get serious misfiring happening, which will lead to other mechanical issues. Is there any smell of any particular note from the tank when you release the filler cap. That may give a clue if it can be identified from the fuel smell one would expect. Taking things to extremes, a sample from the tank and having it analysed may prove may be something.

Good Luck and Best Wishes, John

Agreed, totally diff experience dealing with issues and even CRC team compared to when I had and reported issues during warranty. I was relieved to say the least. Big Credit to Listers Jaguar of Solihull, they certainly fought my corner without me even needing to ask them or argue for it on top they even ordered the parts off their own back yesterday to reduce wait times before they knew my decision or outcome, new engine should arrive tomorrow and my car is in the shop having the parts stripped out ready for replacements.

    Great to hear good news.

It is with great sadness, that I must announce the untimely demise of my 51 plate silver S-Type Jag. Sadly the sea air on Worthing seafront has gotten the best of her and the rear sub frame has more rust than metal. MOT failed …. But so much life potentially on her still.

Basically, the old knacker is now up for sale !
Anyone out there fancy a project or could use her for spares ??? The tyres alone are worth more than I’m asking for the whole car. Buyer to collect of course - best bring a trailer !

    £400 - call Richard 07495 784137

    Commiserations on your loss.

    Regards, John

Further question in the pursuit of exploring my above problem.

Have to day managed to get live  % readings from Upstream and Downstream Lambdas (both of which were NEW Denso stock as per original, less than 12 months and 4000 miles ago). This is all Bank 1 related, not that it matters. Downstream is very near on static reading .... between 0.07 - 0.09 %. Upstream fluctuated much more ....... 0.06 - 0.124 %.

Question : Should there be this difference in readings or should they both be very similar and reasonably static ?

Any further advice or suggestions would gratefully received .

    Many Thanks and Regards, John

This reading was taken with an iCarsoft CR PRO and showed a percentage reading. Is any other form of test available using this new Diagnostic unit ?

    Many thanks, John
