  1. Had the S-type V8 serviced at Stratstone Jaguar in Milton Keynes, very reasonable at £280. However they found two slight oil leaks from the auto box, estimated cost of repair £4488.00 (that's right, four thousand) Actual cost of repair from ZF certified transmission specialist including gearbox service £410.23. Stealership doesn't even begin to describe them!!!
  2. SNG Barratt 01746 765432 www.sngbarratt.com Really good selection Cheers, Mike
  3. Hi Alan, Jaguar say it's sealed for life, The ZF technician I spoke to recommended a service every 100,000 km or so. This should include a sump change, it holds the filters and is prone to leaking. I'm having mine done in about a week from now for £410. I'll let you know if it makes any difference MIke
  4. I run mine on Shell standard unleaded, I've tried running it to almost empty and then running it on Nitro +, personally I couldn't tell any difference and it was no better on fuel, but that was on a 4.2, maybe the V6's make better use of it. One more small point, Jaguar engines of our era weren't really a performance engine. They're quite powerful but that's because they're big. For instance the V6 is about 80 hp/ litre whereas a type R Honda from 10 years ago was 100 and revved to 8000 rpm
  5. I know what what you mean Stan, I've got a 2013 A4 TDI as company car (we don't get a choice) and the Jag is like a comfort blanket by comparison. Joys of working for a German company I'm afraid. I took the Jag to head office in Hameln a few weeks ago, cost a fortune in petrol but it was worth it for the look on my German bosses face as we hit 150 in near silence on the E20 :D Mike
  6. Vorsprung durch technik Peter! Oops wrong forum! ;)
  7. I feel a bit better! Mine averaged 30.2mpg on the last tank and 33.6 on a 160 mile round trip to Derbyshire. Not bad for a 4.2 Mike
  8. Well, I've donated several bits of flesh to the cause and so far so good. Not 100% sure yet because I've got to let the pads bed in but it feels ok at the moment. Thanks again for all the good advice. Mike
  9. Thanks again for all the good advice guys, I'll let you know how I get on. Mike
  10. There is a slight discolouration in what I can only describe as regular smudges on the osf disc so I have ordered a pair of Pagid discs and pads from Euro car parts at £67.20 each for the discs and pads at £36.97. Call me paranoid but I didn't fancy Ebay when it came to brakes. So, skinned knuckles and blasphemy for me this weekend! Mike
  11. Ok, I get the message! New brakes it is then :) Thanks for all the good advice guys.
  12. So how do you know which ones to change?
  13. Hadn't thought of that Stan, thanks, How did you work out which one was warped? It's just passed it's MOT and been serviced by Jaguar and neither of them picked up on it. It was only when I visited head office in Hameln last week and thought I'd stretch it's legs that the problem became apparent.
  14. High speed braking (anything over 120 mph, autobahn only officer) produces a noticeable shudder through the steering. This would seem to suggest a warped disc or two at the front. Obvious answers seem to be new discs or skimmed, has anyone had this done? if so how good were the results? Thanks, Mike
  15. Absolutely love mine, I've had it about a year and apart from the aircon computer going AWOL it's been faultless. you're better off with a 4.2 than a 4.0 as they had a few potentially expensive faults to do with the cylinder liners and cam chain guides. Also you get the ZF 6 speed box. Mine averages 28 mpg but will manage 34 on a run Goodyear tyres can be had for £135.00 each I've just been quoted £260.00 by the stealership for the 10 year service including the plug change which was £40.00 cheaper than E&E, the local specialist!!
  16. Hi Phil, the petrol isn't nearly as bad as you think, I'll admit mine is only a V8 but on long runs it gets well into the mid 30s and there's a 59k mile S-type R on Autotrader for less than £8k. Go on you know you want to :D
  17. So, S-type R, Supercharged 4.2 V8, 400BHP, 0-60 in 5.3secs, limited to 155 mph and only available as an auto, not a drivers car then?
  18. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Slow, smelly and gives you cancer!! Think I'll stick with octane instead of cetane! Mike
  19. Only the first bit, to my knowledge diesels aren't powerful enough to burn rubber! (that should kick things off nicely!) :D
  20. Hi Trevor, These are tiny pieces of micro electronics which help your supercharger turn petrol into airborne hydrocarbons and stop your supercharger turning your tyres into airborne hydrocarbons Mike
  21. Hi John, I recently fitted Goodyear F1 asymmetrics to my 04 V8 and have been very pleased with them. Good feel, plenty of grip in the wet or dry and nice and progressive on the limit. Avon ZZ3s are ok, they're cheaper, have plenty of grip but are a bit pointy and break away a bit suddenly. Wanli are made by the comedy tyre company and should be avoided like the plague! Hope that helps. Mike
  22. One further tip, I used the meguiars kit and it did a great job, then I saw something on youtube which recommends using a good quality polish on them afterwards, apparently this protects them from UV etc and makes the effect last longer. Seems to be working so far, I did mine 6 months ago and they're still clear. Cheers Mike
  23. Congratulations Josh, Welcome to the ranks of the destitute but happy! Mike
  24. Surely it should be enjoyed at any and all opportunities, Trevor even sails his!
  25. Back on topic, Josh are you with Jaguar??
