  1. Hi Keith, Have you checked the fault history? One (of many) potential faults is the throttle position sensor as the track can wear. I would suggest a full diagnostic at an indie Jaguar specialist. Regards, Mike
  2. Nice to hear you got good service from a main dealer
  3. Well guys, Thanks for the input, I tried a BMW Mini Cooper S and it was good fun but I've plumped for a Renault Clio Sport 182 which is basically a front wheel drive go kart I pick it up in a couple of weeks. So I can start to unbolt bits to make it a bit lighter, though I suppose as it's French if I leave it long enough it will do that itself!! 80,000 on the clock paid £2250 with a years MOT.
  4. Hi Leo, Thanks for that, I hadn't considered kit cars, just had a look on Autotrader and Car and Classic and there aren't any for sale at any price!
  5. Here goes.... Austin princess 1800...still gives me nightmares Fiat 132 ES 1800... seemed fast at the time Fiat 124 coupe 1800 twin cam..... actually was quite fast Fiat Strada 105TC .... ate XR3is for breakfast until the cambelt slipped. RIP Fiat Croma 2.0.... worthy but dull Vauxhall Cavalier .... Ditto Lancia Delta HF turbo... Very quick, great handling, rusted like you wouldn't believe Alfa 33 1.7 cloverleaf ... ditto Citroen BX 16V GTI ... !Removed! quick but electrically fragile Peugeot 405 Mi16 1.9 ... Probably my favourite car until the current one, only car I've ever owned that would hit 7000rpm in top gear Hyundai coupe F2 Evo ... fantastic handling but no suspension to talk of, my osteopath loved it Seat Leon FR tdi... bought new, a really good car, quick, handled well but somehow never got under my skin S-type 4.2 V8 ... my first Jaaag, loved it to bits XF 3.0 S Portfolio diesel .... the best car I've ever owned and it still gives me a little thrill every time I walk up to it
  6. Hi Guys, I've managed to save up a few pence without the wife spending it on a new sofa. I'm thinking of buying a small cheap (under £2500) car for making a nuisance of myself round the local country lanes and possibly the odd track day. Having spent hours trawling through Autotrader I've got less idea now than when I started! So .............. any ideas?
  7. As an ex serviceman, thank you Steve.
  8. Hi Dave, As you've already worked out the seats are independently controlled, this makes it unlikely (but not impossible) that it's a relay. You may wish to invest in an OBD scanner and try re-setting any faults you find as a lot of these systems, especially those controlled from the HMI are software based. Cheers, Mike
  9. Hi Steve, There is a service due indicator, not sure what the maximum mileage is between services but it will start moaning after 12 months. Mike
  10. My V8 SE had the birds eye maple and I was never really happy with it, I kept meaning to find some piano black trim but never got around to it. Personally I think the carbon looks fine and in 04 it certainly available on several Jaguar models
  11. Hi Rob, Had you considered changing to a lower gear manually as you approach the roundabout? Cheers, Mike
  12. Sounds very similar to mine, anyone else care to chip in?
  13. Just for reference, it does say in the manual that you can rotate the gear selector in the lowered position if you can't get it to rise and it will still work. Not ideal obviously, but better than being stuck in the middle of nowhere
  14. It seems unlikely that the two things are related. The Dynamic Stability Control has more to do with your ABS and brakes than the exhaust system. Hopefully it's as simple and cheap as a wheel sensor as it was on my last Jag Let us know how you get on
  15. Hi Jeff, I can personally recommend Nene Jaguar in Peterborough http://www.nenejags.co.uk/index.htm, they looked after my V8 S-type for four years and I have no complaints. I've also heard good things about www.eandeservices.co.uk/ in Milton Keynes but haven't used them personally
  16. If it were me I would replace both sides (whether the arms or just the bushes) I had one side done due to an MOT failure and then the other one when I had some spare cash on my 100,000 mile S-type V8 and the difference to the handling was extraordinary.
  17. Interested to see how this turns out as I am considering the same thing, so please keep us informed, oh and all the "economy" chips I've looked at still seem to bump it up to at least 300hp
  18. Why would you buy a diesel? Well because in the 21st century they're Damn near as fast, 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and limited to 155mph, better on fuel, cheaper on tax, more reliable and on a real road on a real day will eat an S-type for breakfast. And I swapped a V8 S-type for my XF
  19. Hi Guys Is it possible to find the Radio code if it has been lost? I have an OBD scanner if that's any use. Thanks Mike
  20. Oh dear, I've just changed from a 4.2 S-type which did 32 to the gallon on a long run to a 3 ltr S diesel which by the sound of it won't be much better. The wife will not be happy!!
  21. Currently Higham Ferrers, however a month from now ... France, Switzerland, Italian alps, the Ligurian coast and the back again........... can't wait to let the V8 stretch it's legs
  22. The 4.2 shouldn't need the cam chain mod as far as I'm aware, Jaguar did it when they changed from the 4.0 Regarding the exhaust Paramount performance have a range of options I believe http://www.paramount-performance.com/S-type/
  23. I had mine done and it made a significant difference although it didn't completely cure the surge at 40mph it's much better. Had it done by a local Jag specialist who warned me that the results are "variable"
  24. I was 47. 2004 Jaguar S-type V8 SE 0-60 6.2 seconds and limited to 155mph 2014 Volkswagen Golf 2.0 TSI GTI 5dr DSG 0-60 6.5seconds and 151mph Enough said
