  1. What hair, Trevor? When I towed a caravan I used to start a holiday on Thursdays and always after the rush hour. Peter.
  2. Hi Keith, I think the car needs retuning. To me, it is either that or new plugs, which used to be an easy job. Nothing wrong with the tank --- the steel is re-rolled and coated in Brierley Hill in a works I used to visit regularly and well quality tested. A bad product got a poor score from me! Peter.
  3. Hi Danny and Trevor, I have been away for a couple of day and have just read this interesting exchange --- I fully concur with what Trevor has said and I do believe that there are several good garages recommended in the list on the Jaguar Owners Lounge in Derbyshire. which could be useful. I belong to the era that if WD40 doesn't work you just hit it with a lump hammer ---- sadly that era has now passed. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Paul and Mark. A friendly group of people who love their Jaguars hang around here. Enjoy your cars and the club, Regards, Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Mark. I hope you enjoy the Club as you do your car. There are a diverse group of members from all walks of life, but with one thing in common -- we all love the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  6. That seems a bit excessive, Keith. What engine is in your car? Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club, Clive. Whatever the problem is I think it must be electrical/software. Your engine is the same one as mine, and they are solid engines, so I am concluding it is a sensor issue and that a sensor is sending a wrong message somewhere. Bearing in mind I trained as an accountant and that I don't like oily hands anymore, so I think that the trip to a a main dealer might solve the problem [expensively]. Good Luck. Peter.
  8. That is £569.5 a gallon, Charlie. It is only £5.74 a gallon down here. Peter.
  9. Surely 125.9 pence a litre, Kenny? Peter.
  10. I still can't figure out why prices are over £120 a litre, when they are only 120 pence a litre in Birmingham. :)
  11. It would cost be about £10,000 to fill up my car in Devon, Trevor. Diesel is only 126.99 pence per litre at my local shell station. :) . Peter.
  12. Hi Shaun, There were several face lifts for the s type, with the earliest [other than the one that got rid of the Mondeo clone after three months] one being the interior and minor external changes, and another in 2005/6. Add to that, some dealers did sell some that were pre facelift after the post facelifts came out. -- the years and plates were different and you can't go my them. However, if you look at the car images via google you can see differences. The good news seems to be that the lighting units look exactly the same. Regards, Peter. My car's VIN number says it is a 2008 model despite it being manufactured in March 2007.
  13. Hi Shaun and welcome to the club. The s type had a face lift around that time and I would check it out carefully to see if your car was pre or post facelift. The experience does get better and I think in over 55 years of driving my s type is the best car I have ever had. Regards, Peter.
  14. Removing the DPF is now an automatic MOT fail. Legislation was brought in in February 2014. Peter.
  15. Sutton Coldfield -- my local Shell station is now £1.2699 a litre. Decimal points are a real so and so! Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Harvey. Check both the bulb and the fuse, and then the connections. My S type has the touch screen which is a bit different than your centre console. If the above are OK, I am a bit mystified, and can only assume that there a fault with the display itself. But one thing you should always check with a sophisticated car like the Jaguar is the battery, as when the battery starts to fail or is losing power, the minor things stop working first. Regards, Peter.
  17. I have heard of that, Tom. A bit worrying. Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Jack. I used to have an x type 05 plate, snd my 'phone would not pair with, for some reason. It is possible that the car has not got the facility. It could have been my phone not being recognised by the car, although I tried all the codes which Trevor has suggested, Keep trying, try to catch the car when it is not looking, and good luck. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Conor. The S Type is a nice car, and is not meant to be doing nothing. I am not an engineer, but I see no reason why a manual conversion could be done as long as the person doing it has the skills and desire. I could be totally wrong, though!! There are quite a few members with mechanical savvy, though, and indeed several enthusiasts who have their own garages who will assist with some very good advice. Regards, Peter.
  20. The X type 3.0 litre was a car that sold very well in the USA, Mark. It is not that frugal, but on a long run you should achieve about 30 mpg so long as your right foot isn't too active. The main thing is that you will enjoy the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Phil, and welcome to the club, I don't know the XF seating setup, but I guess someone will be along who does. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Chris, and welcome to the club. I used to have a 2.5AWD but it was a manual. Mine was a 2005 model, so I am less wise about the X Type Auto. But as Charlie says, it could need reprogramming. The garage could well be right. Regards, Peter.
  23. Please do, Ian. The Forum is really for sharing experiences that we all have. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi Stuart, I have had a good look around as white smoke, or indeed any colour smoke is of interest to me, having the same engine as yourself. There appear to be several reasons, although there are many prophets of doom, It could be incorrect injector timing, defective injectors, or low cylinder pressure. You have checked out the injectors, so that can be ruled out. I have come across one comment which could be the cause ---- low quality fuel, which is a relatively cheap fix, and that kind of fix is a good one. I have been advised that supermarket fuel is not the best for a performance engine, and that an occasion tankful of the very expensive performance diesel is a good thing. If the smoke is only on start up it could be pure water vapour, but the misfire seems to indicate something else. I had my car put through thee Terraclean service, basically to check it out and it did a lot of good to the engine giving me 53 mpg on a 90 mile run mostly on a motorway with a 50 mph restriction. Hope this helps, Peter.
  25. I was retired then, Kenny, and far away! Peter.
