Batteries, as Joe has said, do play a very important part in the operation of the S Type. Batteries start to age after about 4 and a half years, so it is worth checking the age of your battery and see it is holding a charge. Peter.

Welcome to the Club, Ron. The x type is a very good car and a Jaguar through and through. Like every make of car is has parts in common with other brands, and the use of modern technology is shared right across the whole of automotive manufacturing, including Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, BMW [FWD from Rover], and quite a few others. Welcome to the club, Alex. There is nothing wrong with the 3.0 litre diesel as long as you remember that a diesel engine has to have a slightly different driving technique to a petrol engine. Gently to start and let it tick over for a few seconds when you stop to let the turbo slow down, and use premium fuel and the diesel will perform very well indeed. Voice control has not been fitted on my car, which is OK by me, but their are several members with experience of retrofitting such modern bits of technology. I am sure you will get some good assistance. Regards Peter. -

Doris is much more polite than Imelda on my previous sat nav. "Take a left turn soon if it is not too much trouble" is much nicer than "Turn left NOW." -

Hi Martyn, Welcome to the club and good luck with your restoration of a classic car. I have always found the DVLA very helpful, and I think if you ring them with the vin numbers they will assist in providing a registration plate and suitable documentation. What maintenance costs to consider whern buying 3.0 Diesel

Hi Paul mac, There are many horror stories about Jaguar servicing and maintenance most of which are either apocryphal or do involve a lack of preventive maintenance, such as weekly checks on tyre wear and pressure, fluid levels, leaks, oil levels etc. I have used a mobile mechanic for 15 years who was Rover trained, but who knows a lot about cars and has all the diagnostic equipment needed and charges about a third of the charges that a main dealer does. I would advise that you find such a person or garage who will treat your car as his/her own and does a good job. Regards, Peter. -

Welcome to the club, Nathan. I have only just seen your earlier post, and your post a minute or two ago indicates that you have already done what I would have advised. The 2.7 diesel s type accellerates like a dream -- under load -- 4 adults and luggage doesn't bother it all -- and no difference when without a load. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.

Hi Keith, David and I are at one with referring to the battery. I also noticed that your s type is an 07 plate, as is mine, and I would also check the age of you battery. I replaced mine last week, and it was just under 5 years old and was not seeming to hold a charge for very long. The diesel engine needs a good shot of electricity to start the car -- glow plugs etc, and with batteries lasting about 5 years a cold winter will take its toll on an ageing battery. Regards, Peter.
