  1. The bolts holding them usually rust together. Top ones are generally quite easy to get undone with a spanner on the back and a socket on the nut. Bottom ones I usually cut off with a disc grinder. Once out, bolt the new ones in. Hold the back in place with the spanner whilst tightening the nut. You might need need to jack up the suspension arm to line up the hole but they're pretty easy to do
  2. Thanks Steve, Well chuffed with that! Not often I win something and nice to win something I'm actually interested in too!
  3. Has to be the 3.0D add the 2.7 is a tractor engine by comparison
  4. Likewise with the XJ. I'm just messing with you ;-) I'm undecided on my next car. Can't decide on the XF or the XJ. Either way, it'll be a colour that stands out from the crowd. Massively tempted with the XJ but I prefer the look of the XF back end
  5. Well comparing trouser snakes has been fun! ;-) Yes, they made one called 'Onyx White'. At least the favourite colour is British........ Ultramarine all the way!
  6. I think you forgot White ;-) I know this is a personal thing, but the only thing I can't bear about the X-Type is the interior colour schemes. I hunted for 12 months to find mine with the black half leather and the piano black dash. I'm not overly keen on the beige or cream interiors but can see the attraction for some, but the BROWN steering wheel???? What on earth were the designers at Jaguar thinking?? It looks like something from an Austin Allegro!
  7. BRG is surely an ageist colour?? :D I think, in certain lighting conditions, or if the sun reflects in a particular way, BRG actually looks similar to Ultraviolet P**s taking aside, I nearly bought a BRG one. it's a lovely colour. Part of why I didn't is that for some reason, green is the hardest colour to resell. I had that from a reputable dealer in the trade. He won't buy a green car because if he does manage to sell it, he usually doesn't make much profit. I actually love the BRG, but the Ultraviolet is my first choice.
  8. I'll put money on the 10 year old Jaguar being a better, more reliable car than the corporate newby. I've a 2005 2.2D X-Type and it's hands-down the best car I've ever owned!
  9. I've never found Adrian Flux to be cheaper. Normally quite a lot more expensive. My renewal is due in July so I'll be a returning customer of Swiftcover. I left them last year as I got 10 quid less at Autonet, but they have been horrendous! Customer service was shocking and they even cancelled my policy after a letter claiming I hadn't sent my licence to them. They then said it was my wifes licence they needed! They then wanted to return me £54 of the £171 I'd paid them only 20 days earlier claiming there were cancellation charges to pay! Not being one to suffer fools easily they got both barrels from me and after 30 mins of debate they relented and gave me a fresh 12 months for no extra cost. Result. However, I was charged £64 extra when I bought the Jag. £35 of that was an administration fee! After that fiasco, they'll never receive another penny from me! Swiftcover were absolutely superb. For £10 I wish I'd stayed. Lesson learnt I suppose. With Swift I received excellent customer service, a cheap policy that I could manage in its totality online, and no admin charge when I changed cars. I pay my insurance in full rather than DD, so in July it'll be another £190 well spent!
  10. Yes the Terraclean does have good reviews. There is a place in Market Deeping near me who does it for a good price. I'm contemplating doing mine. I want to put it on the dyno but want to Terraclean it a strip out the intercooler and flush it first. I'm convinced I'll see a shade over 200 bhp on the dyno if I do that. By the way, you chose the best colour! Mine is Ultraviolet too!
  11. Welcome Phil. Glad my experiences were useful you. Be sure to get the upgrade done before any remap. The beneift of using Celtic is that they modify your existing software. Some remappers use generic software, so you'd lose the upgrade! The Celtic upgrade has been done on a 2.0D and according to the owner made it quicker than his sons standard 2.2D! Worth every penny!
  12. Check out my post from a few months back here http://www.jaguarownersclub.com/forums/topic/9377-bluetooth-audio-for-non-bluetooth-jags/#entry14129 You can use it without the bluetooth. The iSimple IS31 device comes with a Jack plug to phone lead to connect any device to it that has a headphone socket. The transmitter types are an option but the ones I've used in the past have suffered poor sound quality and often need retuning if you travel around a lot as radio transmissions interfere with it. The iSimple doesn't suffer any of this
  13. Exactly what I found with all the cars I've done it to. Quieter almost instantly, especially from a cold start, and more response. Don't over do the 2stroke. You'll find it'll smoke a bit if you do. If you do, just run the tank empty, refuel and start again. I tend to not put that much in now, but it definitely helps with lubrication. I removed my EGR valve at the same time and gave it a clean. It was pretty clean anyway, but couldn't hurt. Celtic offered me the same 2 car deal but in the end I only did the one car..... mine! Wasn't a massive improvement initially, but after a good drive with some fast moments in it, the difference is brilliant. The ECU has a self-learning phase so initially it's all on default parameters, but it quickly learns how you drive, and afterwards you'll have a big grin in no time! The uphill torque is superb!
  14. The Millers stuff is superb. I always have a bottle in the garage and I use it in my wifes Saab and my dads Laguna. Both show noticeable improvements with it. Celtic, in my opinion, are superb. The technician turned up bang on time and the job was complete in an hour. What more can you ask? Look forward to reading about your experience
  15. Did yours struggle to rev up in neutral? I'd agree that the intercooler hose could be suspect but I'd not expect it to cause a revving problem in neutral as the air requirement is far less than when under load. The turbo won't be spinning much with the engine not under load. I'd also expect a lack of power if the intercooler has a leak, but in this case there is no loss of power, at least not noticeable to any great degree
  16. It'll run perfectly fine on the cheaper 92 RON unleaded. Engines after around 1988/ 1990 were designed to run on it after the removal of leaded fuel from the forecourts. The 97 RON will give you a marginally smoother response and a slight improvement in acceleration and economy, but it's a negligible amount. As Peter says, you'll notice the difference, but you'll probably question if the difference is worth the extra money, especially as the 92 RON is what your engine is designed to run on. It's the minimum requirement it's designed to run on, but designed to run on it nonetheless. It's really a personal preference thing. Try both and see which you prefer. You'll do no harm to your engine using either. The diesels are a little more fussy but that's because diesel is a dirty burning fuel and produces a lot of soot. Petrol is clean burning
  17. Celtic Tuning offer a remap for improved performance and a separate one for economy. I'm sure both are worthwhile, but economy can be gained by backing off with the right foot. Performance can only be gained by the full upgrade. Obviously, depends on what you want from your car but if you have the full performance remap you can get both. I can get my 2.2 to return an average of around 43-46 mph in daily use and on an 'eco-drive' I can get between 52-56mpg. Even driven in earnest it'll give around 38-42mpg depending on how hard I push it. The bonus is that if I want to I can scuttle off and it takes something quite extreme to keep up. Just how a Jaguar Sport should be! The standard 2.2 is reasonably quick, but the full remap makes it thoroughly entertaining, and you can still get economy if you want it
  18. Do you mean the pre-heating unit?
  19. I had my X-Type 2.2 remapped by Celtic Tuning in February. A much better and safer alternative to the boxes. Those things should be banned! I love driving it now, and the power delivery never fails in the 'grin factor' dept! Enjoy it.
  20. Welcome to the club, Paul. We're a helpful, friendly bunch here. I've joined 4 Jaguar based forum clubs and only use this one now. Feel free to ask for any advice, or to offer any of your own. Pretty sure we can all offer some nuggets of wisdom somewhere, however, carcinogenics isn't my strong point. I truly wish you all the best with your battle. I lost my grandmother to lung cancer in 1995 and it wasn't pleasant. I won't say I know how you feel, because I don't, but I do have an understanding. We're all genuinely interested in each others lives (and cars) so keep us all up to date if you wish. Best wishes, Mick
  21. Run my 2.2D on Mobil 3000, which fits the Ford/Jaguar spec exactly and is a superb quality oil. I think the 2.0D shares the same requirement for 5w/30 grade as the 2.2D. Got to agree with Peter on the filters. Pattern filters these days are sh*t! Get a genuine one. They're about 7 quid from main dealers. I only ever use genuine oil/air/ fuel filters these days as the pattern ones are truly rubbish!
  22. I promise you won't regret it. They are simply awesome tyres
  23. Cam chain on the diesel motors so generally, they're set for life
  24. You'll find a huge range of mixed emotions with owners over tyres. I won't fit anything other than BFGoodriche. My local does the 225/45 18's for between £95 & £100 each. The wet weather grip is simply astonishing. I went to them after owning a Supra 3.0 Turbo and I couldn't get the rear to slip out at all in the wet! Even by dumping the clutch mid- corner! Given that the previous tyres would get it sideways in a straight line in the dry before, I was converted instantly. My last set got me 25k too. As for insurance, I'm 40 with a clean record and full NCB and I pay £208 a year. Swift Cover are excellent and I will be returning to them this year at renewal. Try Go Compare or similar and see what you get. I found Adrian Flux to be quite dear in the past
