  1. Only you as an owner driver can decide? You know your style of driving and load carried? And not take Jaguar's recommended quoted pressures as gospel. Most OME tyres fitted to new models are soft walled tyres so when released to the press to test and apprise in somewhere like Spain on smooth roads they report back how nice and comfortable the ride is. Buy a cheap digital tyre depth gauge and check the tread depth each 500 miles then adjust your starting pressure according to wear? Edges wearing increase a couple of psi, Center wearing decrease a couple of psi until there's near even tread wear and that will be the correct psi. I personally have 19" rims and use 245x45 extra load (XL) tyres with sidewall rim protectors and 34psi all round which are virtually pot hole and wife's parking proof.
  2. I had a tow bar on my old xf 3.0d Care and research of available types is needed as some require large amounts of the rear valance removing! Best to go for the *13 pin electrics and the cheapest dedicated I have seen is to import from Germany at a cost of £120 (A Jaguar dealer will still have to enable the ECU for towing) If you use *13 pin electrics you can get a cheap 13 to 7 pin plug in adaptor if needed? Being you car is 6 years old, It may be wise to check 1st if the rear exhaust boxes can be removed with out damage? And if carrying a full load of passengers and equipment in the boot it might be worth up grading the rear shock absorbers to a aftermarket heavy duty type. Tip: Carry something in the boot to kneel on? plus gardening gloves, I kept an old square of carpet on top of the spare wheel. Swan neck balls, electric plugs & safety cable are fiddly to fit as there up behind the rear valance so its a hands and knees job. Apart from grease wear the gloves to pull the plug as these usually need a lot of tugging and when come out and you end up skinning flesh on the nearest part of the car.
  3. From your description it does sound like the brake booster as they get corrosion inside and this might have shifted while the auto box was serviced. 1st I would check the plastic pipe with the check valve as if the engine been left to hang it may have pulled on the grommets and leak. Run some watered down washing up liquid around the grommets while getting someone to rev the engine. OME parts on old cars are a no no..A pattern part brake booster will cost between £120-170 and take about 2 hours to replace. These technical service bulletins may be of help to S type owners: www.jagrepair.com/s-TypeTSB.htm
  4. Top and bottom of where the chrome finisher is fitted between the rear lamps (red in photo)
  5. Glad to hear it was easy to sort out..I think low pressure causes the pump relay to de-energize, Hence no warning! Try using Millers diesel fuel additive plus purchase a good branded diesel not some supermarket brands as these have a high bio content (Bio content should? be shown on the pump) As this blocks filters.
  6. Try lifting up the plastic o/s/r inner sill trim it just pulls up on clips there be a flat connector under the back end of that + pull the round black cover off there's also a connector on the pump as shown in the photo
  7. Might be the pump wiring connector under the O/S of the rear seat swab..Disconnect the battery (DON'T close the boot otherwise you have to use the emergency key blade to open again) Under the front of the rear seat each side are 2 sprung clips..Lift one side and place something under it and the same with the other side..lift the seat swab up and prop up with something under it.. You will see a connector might have gaffa tape holding to the floor pan..Pull the connector apart and squirt some WD40 as these connectors are know to be problematic..The only other ideas I have are like you said filter or pump relay.
  8. I bought these water proof ones for my boat off ebay. I imported them from china..Few pence each and took less than a week to arrive.
  9. As Peter says? Try using a fuel additive in each tank full of diesel. I use Millers diesel ecomax. Also it may be worth changing where you purchase the fuel from? Super market prices look attractive but usually contain a high bio content (By law it should be listed on the pump) It also may be worth renewing the fuel filter and changing the engine oil and filter in case the EGR problem has allowed diesel to contaminate it. Finally you could try disconnecting the battery for 15 mins and ground the car to earth which might reset the ECU.
  10. Care is needed in this weather if left on auto fold that they don't freeze up over night and the motor burns out trying to unfold them
  11. Suggest owners of xf saloon models upto 6 years old, Check carefully along the top and bottom of the stainless steel boot moulding for signs of paint defects in the form of very small spiders or paint bubbles? Due a gasket being left off during production and collecting water under the moulding..And have the boot resprayed FOC under Jaguars 6 year corrosion warranty. I have just returned from a dealers as friend dropped his car off to have this problem repaired and walking around there sales stock see three 60 plate & one 61 plate models showing paint defects along this moulding.
  12. Try mounting it on the ash tray / coin lid my works fine there! If so? Open the lid and find a way to support it above the 12v power point. (I made a pedestal using the SatNav plug as a base or you could see if the suction mount will stick to the underside of the open lid) Only reason I have one as a back up Jaguar's SatNav doesn't always recognise post codes. Care needs to be taken if adding speed/safety camera to SatNav's warnings if intend to travel in France that you can remove it! Cops favourite sport there is waiting for UK cars using SatNav's and handing out fines if they find any data base disabled or not containing speed camera locations.
  13. I think you will have trouble finding one as most were the reserve of the 5.0 XFS-R model. In my opinion? The only worthwhile upgrades is Adaptive cruise & heated wheel
  14. Look on the bright side Ken, In a few months time your brother will be hating himself and wishing he saved his money to buy the new 200mph F-Type SVR.
  15. £65k You can get an Audi SQ5 Fully loaded for less than that! Plus the 0-60 dash is quicker than the diesels Jaguar offer. 1st production run vehicles are always problematic and owners are used as guinea pigs to iron out niggles?
  16. Sounds like the previous owner? Or dealer? Had problems and has had the EGR in the ECU de-activated but left the EGR valves open to recirculate (not fitted blanking plates) If no warning light seen prior to your problems. You be able to find replacement valves offered on eBay..The DPF filters it may be worth seeing if they can be sonic cleaned before buying replacements (can get aftermarket replacements) Your Sump oil will probably be full of diesel plus it worth checking the intercooler. When changing sump oil it's worth leaving a half a litre short of recommended refill amounts. Unless you do frequent motorway journeys buy a branded fuel and not a cheap supermarket fuel which will have a high bio content. If used on short journeys it might be worth using a fuel additive. Though illegal now it may be worth having your EGR valves blanked and the ECU program de-activated properly then sort the DPF filters problem so there still visually in place for the MOT test. Unless there is excessive smoke when revved it will still pass.
  17. Extras: Metallic paint..Wheel styles..Adaptive cruise control..Heated steering wheel..Two tone seats..Sun roof..TV..Are above STD factory spec.
  18. Diesel brake boosters are none vacuum operated. How much brake peddle creep is acceptable? Holding mine on the foot brake with just moderate pressure applied the peddle will quickly sink to the floor! Jaguar are saying, Though mine only needs moderate pressure it is still within factory standards? I seem to remember in the USA some owners were complaining and an anti creep valve was being fitted FOC to the brake booster. Jaguar UK are saying they have no knowledge of this modification being fitted.
  19. Not all us A40 owners are that violent Peter..I leave that up to the wife
  20. Stand corrected Yes your right all 4 pots use the Ford ECU..All 6-8 pots will need the to be ECU enabled
  21. Hi Dave..The Satnav is on a hard drive on the facelift XF 'That's the reason you can play a DVD' Mine was updated FOC to 16 spec at a recent major service. If you purchased the car from a main Jaguar dealer it may be worth asking if as part of 'good will' to do this for you. Also as the car is over 3 years old to keep there customers Jaguar offer a £199.00 servicing deal. As for the USB stick I have know idea? In my wife's Audi (Sorry for using a swear word )It just plugs into a lead in the glove box
  22. I'm learning Polish!.. DO NOT USE THAT 150psi POWER WASHER ON MY FRONT AND REAR BUMPERS!..
  23. On my XF (1) I have fitted front wind defectors. Will say they don't defect any wind lol! But worth there weight in gold by allowing the front windows to be dropped by 2" even in the worst of weather as before if open slightly in the rain the sweep of the wipers the rain ran around the A pillar into the window and straight onto the armrest window and mirror switches. (2) Is my DOD LS460W dash cam which has no problem picking up a GPS through the heated screen.
  24. Thanks Peter, Sadly since July 15 the Sportbrake model production has ceased. Best Regards Paul
