  9. Hi Allan, there is currently a 4.2 XKR exhaust system for sale of the JEC Classifieds website, no price given unfortunately, but looks in good condition. Link here: jec.org.uk/classifieds/index.php?page=car-parts&id=4359 Alternatively, you could check out some of the aftermarket suppliers such as Paramount. N6 JMX

  11. Hi Kevin, the short answer is that you "should" be able to fill either car with the petrol of your own choosing and the car's brain will adjust the settings of the engine to cater for the fuel in use - especially the case with the newer 5.0 litre car. However, for peace of mind, the car will definitely run better and return a healthier MPG if you use the higher octane fuels. Here in the UK, we get the choice of E10 or E5, with the number representing the percentage of ethanol contained within the fuel. Some folks have experienced fuel system issues when using the E10 fuel, e.g. leaking fuel lines, as the higher ethanol content can easier exploit weaknesses in the system. In my own case, running the the supercharged XKR (2010), I use E5 fuel, which is generally 98 or 99 RON (octane), occasionally 100. Ultimately, it is your choice, but opting to use the lower octane / cheaper fuel, may well turn out to be a poor choice with problems down the line. N6 KMX

  14. hi as above car does not recognise any smart keys, got someone to try reprogramme remotely but came up with these faults so unsuccessful. anyone have any sdd knowledge know how to recover my fobs, seems absolutely crazy a flat battery can cause such a headache, proximity does not work either.
  15. My husband wanted a V8 but budget restrictions meant he purchased a 1999 S type SE 3 litre V6 in December 2021, with 59060 miles on the clock. It had three previous owners, with the third keeping it for a long time - he had bought it in 2003. It's MOT history was very good with only minor things, so it seemed he kept it very well. It's now up to 68,000 miles. We have motorbikes, so sometimes the car is not used for several weeks at a time, but it does sometimes do some long journeys towing my grass track sidecar to race meetings. It came with a problem of intermittent draining the battery and my husband tried a few things. He concluded that may be the computer stays live. It is meant to give you half hour then shut off. It trashed a couple of batteries before he had the idea of fitting a Richbrook battery isolator like rally cars have. For going shopping, etc, the battery lasts, but for overnight, we use the isolator. I never lock it as I don't trust the locking system, but luckily we live in rural Wales so do not worry about leaving it unlocked in supermarket car parks, etc. The heater and air conditioning stopped working last winter, although very occasionally you do get a bit of warm air. Hopefully the maintenance man will have a bit of time to have a look and order the parts soon. I looked up Jaguar S Type SE V6 Auto in How Many Are Left, and the most recent quarter shows 181 taxed and 43 SORNd. https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/jaguar_s-type_se_v6_auto Marianne

  25. Hi Paul, good for you. The life span of a battery in a Modern XK is around 5 years with a good proactive maintenance call to change the battery when it gets to that 5 year mark. It's amazing just how many faults the Modern XK can throw up simply because the battery is on the wane. In these cars, the ability to start the car is not a good indicator that the battery is fit for further service as the electronics that make this car work are simply very sensitive to low voltage. The takeaway lesson should be to have the car on a Smart Charger - Ring Automotive or C-Tek - when leaving the car idle for longer periods. In my own case, if my car is going to be standing for more than a couple of days, I connect up my Ring Automotive RSC612 Smart Charger to the remote charging posts in the boot. The RSC612 will also work on vehicles with an AGM battery for Stop/Start technology. Happy motoring. N6 JMX
  26. Lower the window by 11". Remove the door card and sticky foam, cut thru the flexible glue. Loosen the two window clamp bolts and remove the glass, always use a suction cup to hold the glass. Remove the speaker box then disconnect the connectors from the door lock and window motor - access the window connector via the port in the door. Unbolt and remove the window slider frame. I have removed the window motor and gearbox but it is not strictly needed, using T25 remove the DC motor and worm drive. Clean the shaft and apply a mid to heavy grease. The light oil used by Jaguar dries and there is metal contact, greatly slowing the DC motor. With that done replace, paying attention to the brush contacts. Re assembly is a reverse of the procedure. With the glass now in keep the window bolts loose and close the window fully, now tighten the glass clamps. Result: one rejuvenated window motor.
