Hello all,

Just bought my first Jag Premium Lux 3.0 v6 D over a week ago and i love it!IMG_0209.thumb.JPG.806a0173bd42f45371919543d838aa19.JPG Got a really good deal but its only got the 18" Vela wheels. I would love the 20" Draco grey wheels. IS it jus as simple as swapping them over or do i need to make any adjustments?

Just thought i would post a pic of my Jag so you can see the wheels :)

Many thanks,

Lee

Hi Lee, and welcome to the Club.

You have a lovely looking XF there, and as far as I am concerned the wheels look just fine.

I had the XF3.0D S on 20 inch wheels. Whilst I concede that they looked great, I found the low profile tyres and rims were very easy to damage on curbs, and I was aware that potholes and speed humps were liable to damage the tyres and bend the rims as well.

So my personal choice would be to stick with what you have, but of course we all have different priorities, and there will be many on here who would prefer the 20 inch rims.

Welcome to the Club, Lee.

I have a S Type wth 18" wheels and they do a good job and I have heard from people that having bigger tyres does not improve the ride, but rather the opposite.

Not only that, the tyres for an 18" rim are much cheaper than those for the larger rims.

Regards,

Peter.

Thanks for the reply guys i appreciate! I don't dislike the wheels and the ride comfort is just lovely. I just kind of wanted to go for the xfr look that is all.

But i reckon it will be a bit of a farce trying to sell my wheels and locate 20" wheels :(

This is my first Jag went from a Mercedes c250 to this and for me the ride is miles better in the Jag, What cars did you guys come from?

Regards,

Lee

I have had all sorts of cars over the years, with a lot of performance cars and a lot of off roaders. I came to Jaguar from a Land Rover Defender 90 XS, so even on 20 inch rims the XF ride seemed just great to me!

Seriously, the ride was fine, though it did tramline on white lines in wet weather. For me the plus side of the 20 inch rims was only their looks. They may give marginally better handling, but I doubt I ever reach that kind of limit.

The downsides did matter to me: Risk of kerbing, possible damage to rims and tyres from speed humps, and renewal costs. I was very careful, but still did sustain a little kerb damage.

If they had not been already on the car I certainly would not have changed to them.

I had a Rover Sterling 825 for 11 years.  It was fitted with 15" wheels  --  small for a big car - but it held the road like if it was on  rails and the drive comfort was , as my son put it, "Like a big comfortable settee".

Peter.
