Hi all

I have just brought my dream car a Jaguar XJ 2017 British Racing green 3.0 Diesel. Beautiful
It is second hand but I noticed the rear tyres are not the same manufacturer.
Pirelli P zero and Continental contisport contact 3 275/35 ZR20

Is this an issue I should be concerned about?

Hi Paul, and welcome to the club.

Both sets of tyres are of good makes and I think they could do a good job.

You must check the tyres to ensure that they are within the wear limits and ensure the correct pressure as you probably know.

Personally I do like Pirelli ,

Regards,

Peter.

Another fan of Pirelli here.

I presume you mean that one rear tyre is a Pirelli and the other one is a continental ?

If so, personally I would want both tyres to be the same tread pattern on the 'driven' axle, especially on a car trying to put down 700nm of torque !

If you bought it from a dealer, I am surprised that they didn't sort this out.

My advice would be to either replace one of the tyres with a matching new one (if the tread depth is good) or otherwise buy a matching pair and then sell the 'odd' pair on Ebay.

Hi Jon,

I was assuming that one pair of matching tyres was one one axle and another on the other axle.

If each axle was with different tyres, I would agree with you.

Peter

Best practice is to have tyres on the same axle to be exactly the same, both manufacturer/brand and tyre type. I personally prefer Michelin and for my XKR chose the Pilot Sport 4S which came out top in most tyre reviews that I looked at. I recently replaced all four changing over from Dunlop Sport Maxx which i thought were not so good in the wet coping with the power under acceleration even though they were the original OEM tyre for the XKR.

What tyres do you have on the front of your car?

Hi Peter,

I didn't know whether Paul meant that his front tyres were one brand and the rear tyres were another brand ? but I read it as though he had two different makes on the rear axle ?
