  2. Welcome to the Club, Matt. I know how you feel when you leave a car you have cherished for years. I left my Rover 825 Sterling with 122k miles on the clock on the forecourt of a Jaguar dealer after I had had it for over 11 years. I was told by the Jaguar salesman that I would never drive another make of car. True. I now drive my second Jaguar, a car I have wanted from the days of the Mk1 and Mk2 Jaguars, an S Type.   4. Welcome to the Club, Paul. Nice car -- I was picked up in one when I was collecting my S Type two and a half years ago. I have not seen many around even though I live only a few miles from the factory. Jaguar knew what they were doing when they designed this model. It will be one of their best sellers. Regards, Peter

Hi Adrian, The first long run I had after having my s type terracleaned --- 90 miles --- was half on motorway with a speed restriction to 50 mph and the rest city and some dual carriageway I achieved 50.6 mg. The return journey with some motorway without restrictions and heavy traffic on the other roads brought the average down to 46.4. I usually get about 33 mpg from a tankful without any long runs.   6. Hi Robin, The key entry is the safeguard for an occasion when the battery is flat. Some Jaguar models don't have this facility. Peter.

  8. I don't know if anyone remembers the time when an ammeter was fitted to cars. It would be a useful addition nowadays, When I had a caravan, which depended a lot on a good battery, there was an ammeter fitted on the caravan's instrument panel. Peter.

  17. Welcome to the Club, Alan. The X Type is a fine car - I had a 2.5 litre AWD Petrol before getting my S Type. Jaguars do like fully functioning batteries, and if you get 5 years from a battery you are going OK. Enjoy your car! Regards, Peter.

  19. Welcome to the Club, Souhrada. I think you did get a great deal - your Jaguar looks in mint condition. Key fobs can be a pain, but can usually be cured white cheaply by an auto locksmith or an auto electrician. In the UK there are quite a few mobile auto locksmiths, so you could try googling to se if there are any similar people in the USA. Regards, Peter.

  21. The newest S Types are now 8 years old, and many are looking like new, which shows that they are a good car to own and look after. Mine has only done 65k and drives like a dream. Peter. Photo snapped yesterday - needs a good wash but still looks good.

  23. Hi Eddie, A bit early, but much to d today while the weather is [hopefully] going to be a bit better. That sounds like a result! Suppliers are under pressure, and rightly so, to provide high quality parts. I was once at a supplier of the steel that is used for petrol tanks who showed me a tank that Had been returned by Rover because it had holes in it, which is not good for a petrol tank. The cost to that steel supplier was quite high, as they had to trace the steel that was used by them for the special coating to inhibit rust, An investigation found that it had come from Port Talbot, and the specific 16 tonne coil of steel had to be traced and all the places where parts of it had gone to had also to be traced. A lot of petrol tanks had to be recalled. It cost a few shillings! Lesson learned Happy motoring! Peter.
