Hi Brent, I noticed the difference immediately in both performance and mpg, when I changed from Sainsburys to shell v power, even though Sainsburys are the best of the supermarkets for fuel. Luckily there is a Shell Station 500 yards away and which is also the cheapest in the area. It does make a difference, especially with the diesel fuel. Peter.

Hi Malcolm, While the gearbox is allegedly sealed for life, many members have changed the oil and filter at 75k miles and it appears to have been most beneficial. Regards, Peter.

HI Brian, I have seen a programme on Wheeler Dealers where the cracks in leather were removed on a Bentley. There is site somewhere which I found by googling that will identify the exact colour of you seats and have a product --- a dye --- that will restore the look of the leather. I use either Autoglym or saddle soap every couple of months. Regards, Peter.

No rant at all. When I see a post that I feel is demeaning and also incorrect I answer it. When I see a post with in which a member asks if anyone has used a type of fuel, I answer it if I have used that type of fuel. I would respectfully suggest that you should not have referred to "the old guys" on here and their "Small" cars which in my opinion is offensive. In Baseball there is a rule "Three Strikes and Out". Hi Andy, The plug for the S Type is in the left hand side of the driver's footwell. Just sit in the driver's seat and reach down with your left hand just below knee height, and you can't miss it. Regards, Peter.

The extra cost for Shell V Power is not 20p a litre, but actually 8p a litre and the extra mpg usually pays for that extra cost, without even considering the better treatment of the engine. Of course the fuel comes out of the the same refinery, but additives are made by all of the different companies that use that refinery in every tankerfull of fuel. I used to have an X Type 2.5AWD [manual] and it was described by one reviewer as "the nippiest car in the Jaguar range" & while I would not describe it as nippy, it certainly holds the road wonderfully and is great on acceleration. Us "old guys" are not gaga, but rather experienced, and I for one will not put recycled chip oil into my small car. Many members in the club do like to nurture their cars, and like me, cannot just pop round to a main dealer and buy any "big" car that takes their fancy. Hi Andrew, I use Shell v power Diesel all the time. My car runs very well all the time, the engine is very responsive and I get a better performance than when I put in the ordinary standard or supermarket fuel in. My mpg is better too. A performance engine needs performance fuel. Peter.

Most drivers compare fuel consumption not because of the price but rather to become aware of any problem which may exist. I would become concerned if my humble S Type 2.7 Diesel started to show less than 40 mpg on a long run and start to look for the cause. I know that if I get over 500 miles on a tankful on mostly long runs that the engine is running correctly, and I know that if I get less than 400 on a tankful on average driving conditions that something other than me is causing a problem. I had a brand new Toyota Avensis in 1998 [company car] and the consumption on mostly longer runs was only around 30 mpg -- and that was with a 1.7 petrol engine. It also handled like a lame camel. Hi Raj, You don't need a Jag specialist. Just look up a transmission specialist. But really, I would try first the mechanic you always use, as the gearbox oil change can be done by most good car DIY amateurs. Peter.

Hi John, and welcome to the club. I am no engineer either, and I would do exactly what you are doing if the car is still under warranty. A main dealer should have a very good diagnostic system and if you mention when they have checked it, and if they and it OK, that the breakdown mechanic pointed towards the turbo. Good Luck Peter.

You could also try Opie Oils, Andrew. They are a good company and a good online supplier, and supporters of the JOC. As Phillip has said the right oil is more than important, and I change mine every annual service --- I only do about 6000 miles a year. Peter.

Hi Raj, I had code P0402 come up yesterday, [EGR valves] and a good blast on the A 38 to Lichfield cured it. Northfields Jaguar is recommended, --- it all depends on which part of the West Midlands you live. I am in Sutton Coldfield and use a mobile mechanic who I have used for years. Regards, Peter.

Hi Raj, and welcome to the club. To look for issues I would first check if the cam belt was changed at 105k miles. The 2.7 diesel engine is a very good one, and I guess that your model is prior to having the DPF system fitted. The ZF gearbox is supposed to be sealed for life, but some members had found that changing the gearbox oil at about 75k miles has had come benefit. My car has only done 64k miles I had my car Terracleaned about 15 months ago and it was very beneficial. I also use premium diesel -- a bit dearer but it is a performance engine and I do get a good mpg. I sometimes get a problem with the EGR valves which I cure with a good blast on the A38, or some Wynns Diesel EGR Cleaner. The s type is a great car to drive, so enjoy it! Regards, Peter.
