  1. Good morning Trevor. Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, Jonno. I used to have a 2.5 X type. Nice car. Enjoy it, I know you will. Regards, Peter.
  3. Sounds like a good car, Tony. The 3.0 litre engine is a good one. I have the 2.7 diesel in SE trim and suspension which is also a great drive. A full service will tell you something and will sort out if there are any issues--- use a good independent garage rather than a main dealer, unless you feel like spending a lot of money. There is a topic on the forum about the location of good recommended independent Jaguar specialists/garages. Regards Peter.
  4. Welcome to the Club, Mick. Have you deleted the Samsung? I had a problem with my S type and had to get a new SIM card for my Samsung. Regards Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, Tony. You will enjoy your S Type. It is a great car to drive. Regards, Peter.
  6. It is getting a good rinse, Margaret. I went to a Charity Car Meet in Alfreton last Sunday and the Jaguar owners club were the biggest club there with X Types, S Types and XK8's there. An S type won a prize --- mine! I was dead chuffed. Peter.
  7. Hi Margaret, Glad all is fixed. I had my car Terraclean Service on Friday and it has made a great difference. The engine is much quieter, and, although I hesitate to say that the s type is nippy, it is certainly more agile than it was. The mpg is much better. I had a good tip from the mechanic who did the service, too. He told me never to use supermarket fuel as a percentage of the fuel is biomass diesel. You get better consumption with high quality diesel. The job was done with him coming to my house and did the job here. Cost -- £114 -- and worth every penny. Enjoy Suffolk. Regards, Peter.
  8. It is a well known fact, as Harry, the man who sells eggs in the market told me, that it rains more in the North than it does in the South. In fact, Seatoller in Borrowdale near Keswick is the rainiest place the the UK. However, us northerners [i am a Lancastrian] know how to manage water. You can tell from the map that Scotland is higher than the Lake District due to their Mountains, and the Lake district is higher than than the Peak District, which is higher than the Midlands. When it gets here we point it towards the Downs -- co called because it is further down the country and the water finishes up in Devon. Good thinking from us Northerners.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Keith. The S type is a great car to drive. Some people don't like the retro design, and some do. It is the car I always wanted and, personally, I think it is what a Jaguar should look like. Regards, Peter.
  10. Wire Wheels look nice, Trevor, but take a lot of cleaning. My motorbikes had wire wheels -- they were common in the sixties --- and the spokes could go on them and you would have to have a wheel rebuild. They will probably be stronger now, but I don't think they will improve the wheels you have. It is now raining hard again, so I am not leathering the car down! Regards, Peter.
  11. I bought my car from Stratstone in Solihull. I had spent some time looking around for the right S Type and found one in Perth and enquired from Stratstone if they moved cars around. The following day I had a phone call from Stratstone Solihull saying that they had just got one in -- Indigo Blue Metallic with a lower mileage than the one in Perth. Thought about it for a few days, went down, saw it, bought it and am still smiling when I drive it. I assume that your engine is the 3.0 litre diesel which replaced the 2.7 diesel which is in my car. One of the things you need to do with a modern diesel is to make sure that you give it a good run at least once a month ---- a great excuse to give it a bit of welly on the M42. Regards Peter.
  12. Hi Richard, I live very close, too - 6 miles away in Sutton Coldfield. When it rains [and it has just stopped], I look on the positive side and go out when it has stopped and leather her down and then polish with micro fibre cloths. That is handy to know about the trim. Regards, Peter.
  13. Welcome to the club, Ken. A quick squirt of WD40 might solve it. Cheap and worth a shot. Other than that, check out the fuse. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Richard, Get owners Club stickers on your car and look out for others! There are plenty of members around in the Home of the Jaguar. When I bought my first Jaguar I was told that I would never drive another make of car. It is true! Enjoy your car. Regards, Peter.
  15. Try David Manners Group, Kevin or Rimmer Bros. Just Jags Euro Jags. Peter.
  16. Hi Steve, Terraclean not available for diesels?? I have the 2.7 litre Diesel version of the S Type. The machine they use is slightly different from the petrol version, but it does seem to do more for the diesel engine than it does for the petrol engine. One member of the club was told by a main dealer that he possibly needed new fuel injectors in his X Type, but he had the engine terracleaned and it cured the problems. His statement was "The best £96 I have ever spent". Regards, Peter.
  17. You sound a bit pleased, Steve. I have had my car Terracleaned today, and although I have not been on a long run I can notice the difference. I will have a long run tomorrow. Peter.
  18. Just tell her she should get a Skoda Fabia, as the Audi TT is a Skoda in drag. My wife chose my car, although I did drop a hint or three that I liked it. Peter.
  19. Jaguars are very easy to park. Great rear visibility, good mirrors that car easily adjustable, and rear wheel drive which gives a better turn ability than FWD drive cars. They also have parking aids bleepers front and rear. The Audi TT may be very quick but the Skoda platform on which it is based is also used for the turbo charged Skoda which is also very quick and much cheaper than the Audi TT. Give me a Jaguar any time. On an aside, my S type 2.7D has just had the Terraclean service and while it was very quick before, it is now very very quick. Peter.
  20. The current figure in my trip computer for a lot of short runs [and I think the S button when my son borrowed my car for a couple of days] is 27.2 mpg. The car is having a "Terraclean" this morning and I am expecting mpg on a long run to be around 45mpg. I only use cruise control on motorways as being within the West Midlands huge urban conurbation I find that steady driving is impossible. Peter.
  21. Only on tractors, Trevor. My s type has 18" wheels and I get a comfortable ride. The suspension has a lot to do with the ride. Peter.
  22. I had a 'phone cll this afternoon telling me that the main dealer from whom I bought my car one year ago had booked it in for a service and MOT [without me asking] in the next few days. I politely declined telling them I had made other arrangements for both, and they had got the date wrong by three weeks. One thing I do know is that I will save £250 on the service and more if there is any work needed to pass the MOT, which I doubt. One day the message will get through to the main dealers. Peter.
  23. Thanks Steve, I will be around most days until 4th June, when I am going to the Lake District for 5 days with the whole of my family as a Birthday present from my wife to celebrate my 80th Birthday. When you are around this area send me a PM and I will give you my mobile number and make arrangements. The Jaguar presence was really good and I am looking forward to the next meet. Regards, Peter.
  24. Ho, Colin. Mayonnaise is usually caused when its cold and the car is not being used very much. If the oil is OK and not got water droplets in it, and if the coolant has not got oil in it it cannot be the head gasket. I have seen the result of a head gasket going on a Rover Sterling and the Chauffeur driving it was unable to diagnose it -- it was the Boss's car and he was very dischuffed with his chauffeur when the AA turned up and told him the head gasket had gone. I got a Brownie point and a better company car when they were changed. Ian is quite right. Peter
  25. When I retired and the Company car [with all the perks] went I bought a Rover Sterling with every optional extra on it,that was only 8 months old and with 12 months warranty, Part of the negotiation was that the main dealer from whom I bought the car would do the first service at nil cost to me. Which they did. While I was there I noticed the price of the annual service for a Rover Sterling ---- £325 + Vat. I few weeks later I found a leaflet on my car with the Rover motif and offering a full service by a Rover Trained Mechanic for £75 including all fluids except engine oil and filter. When my service was due I rang him and he came, collected the car and brought it back the next day fully serviced and with a report on the car. That was in 2002 and he is still servicing/repairing my cars. The price is now £100. He has replaced exhausts 50% cheaper than the local companies -- plus brake pads, discs when needed etc. Jaguar charges for an engine oil and filter change are horrendous, but he did mine using Castrol magnetic and a Jaguar filter for £85 and brought two litres of oil back. Why do I use and independent mechanic? Peter.
