  1. Hi Julie A keen diy mechanic could do this job, theres a fair bit of work, but as long has they have a descent set of axle stands to support the body and a pair of trolley jacks, and half descent tool kit, they should manage obviously a car ramp would make life more easier but once the basics are disconnected like propshaft from diff, bottom of shockers, brake calipers unbolted, pipes unclipped and supported, abs sensors unplugged, rear exhaust removed the whole subframe can be lowered complete and pulled out of the way and the all parts swapped over onto new subframe I would say a garage would do this in half a day and allow a full days work for a good diy mechanic as long as you dont get any complications, like a stubborn bolt on a suspension arms if you get quotes, get them email pics of the item so you can see condition of the subframe, any descent breaker or parts suppliers will do this cheers Joe
  2. hi Julie these sub frames are readily available second hand and can be found in very good condition if your going to have one fitted labor going to be the same and using a second hand one could save you a fortune its worth considering, its going to be a genuine part, so it will fit sub frame should not be welded really, its structural and all the suspension hangs off it rear is not really a big job to change, for a garage you would have to have a phone round here's a example of rear sub frame prices £65 delivered compared to over £700 new it all depends whats out there, its worth ringing around cheers Joe
  3. hi why are you having it terracleaned are you have problems with emmisions for mot most people have there car terracleaned when there struggling with emissions just before a mot cheers joe
  4. Hi Andy if your car faces down the slope, I'd check the boot first tops of the back lights cheers Joe
  5. Hi Gordon Its says its the right stuff and also states ZF 6HP26 and even quotes ZF Lifeguard 6 It might be ok and I dont know whether it will mix with whats allready in as when you change the oil in a 6HP26 the gearbox holds 10 litres but when you drain it, you only actually get just over 6 litres out, so that means theres about 4 litres left in I would'nt use it in my Jag, but every body to there own I save all the receits for my car, for every thing purchased and this can make a big difference to selling the car cheers Joe
  6. Hi Paul there mainly for starting but there easy to check if you remove the connector or wiring from each one in turn, I'd disconnect battery for safety reasons the resistance should be very low like 0.05 ohms to 1.5 ohms resistance with a meter if you have a dc clip on ammeter you can check there pulling current in amps without disconnecting anything they usually go open circuit, basically burn out, cheep glow plugs can last as little as 12 month known brands can last years cheers joe
  7. hi depends what you want, if you want a nice smooth ride, these arn't for you these will have much lower profile tyres and the ride will be much harsher and more road noise they should fit but overall size might be different, if the outer size is much bigger then it will effect your speed reading cheers joe
  8. HI Barry I take it then it makes the whine when its stationary, as power steering pump, will be engine speed linked at a certain revs and will do it in every gear at a certain revs if it does not do it stationary and only does it when driving, then it can't be power steering pump personally how you've described it 20 to 50 mph, I'd say it likely be a prop shaft support bearing diffs usually get louder, wheel bearings usually get louder and worsen quickly what you really need is it on a ramp, with the back wheels up and spin it up speed and see where its coming from when it makes the whine does it get louder when you put more power on cheers joe
  9. HI your a bit of a drive away from me, so that would be a no. I only do mine because, I don't trust most garages, at least if I have done it myself, I know its been done and done right. you see that many things done wrong at garages, they don't treat your car nice, there's that many video's now, off dash cams where people have gone in for service work and there car only get abused, I know it now all garages, its nice if you know someone who works at a garage who you can trust to do work. cheers Joe
  10. Hi Andy have a look here http://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=36529 cheer Joe

  12. HI The british diagnostics mongoose lead i can recommend, it can read every module on the car for fault codes, reset them and for about £70 of ebay from british diagnostics, is well worth it but you have to be carefull as you can damage things as well, but if you use just to read and clear faults its great, it also gives you a fault code, possible reasons and how to remedy generic obd readers generally only read engine fault codes, not many will read more than engine and gearbox. you need to know the fault code, before any idea of fixing it, something as simple a intermittent fault on a sensor could throw up a fault on the box and engine cheers joe
  13. Hi Brian As Andrew said, I think the sills rust problem, is on earlier cars, later cars are much better I've got a s-type and they were the same, I had a good look took a small mirror to have a look behind them plastic covers even though when i got it home, I removed the covers for peace of mind and they were fine, but while they were off i sprayed a load of cavity wax inside them lower mileage is all ways better, service history is must , but just have a look at the car, simple things like tyres, if it got good branded tyres, its been look after, budget tyres means skinflint. cheers joe
  14. Hi I changed my own auto box oil myself, on my s-type R, zf 6HP26 I bought a kit, genuine zf kit, £197, for that you get 7 litres of zf lifeguard 6, 1 genuine sump filter, set of new sump pins and the mechatronics connector sleeve. was not that bad of a job to do, but you do need to have your car well supported in the air, for a good while with it running while you fill the box up and then you have to wait till it gets up to temp, before doing the last full check. personally I dont recommend mixing oil and I would stick with zf lifeguard only, because when you change the box oil, you can only get about 6 and half litres of oil back out and the box holds 10 litres, so thats means your mixing 6 and half litres on new clean oil with 3 and half litres of original zf oil so if your changing to a different manufacturer of oil, your mixing them, which is never recommended by any garage mixing oils is usually a no no cheers Joe
  15. hi if you get castrol magnatec 5w30 make sure its A5 there a couple of different grades and the A5 is the ONLY one thats jaguar spec WSS-M2C913-B cheers Joe
  16. hi not sure exactly where it is, but its going to be attached to the washer bottle so if you look in the engine bay, look where the washer filler is and follow it down as for the parking sensors i think they have to be jaguar ones cheers Joe

  18. HI if i have, I don't know how I've done it will have a look in settings cheers Joe
  19. hi I have used them before, they should be ok with jaguar s-type's the only thing is i could recommend is to get it checked by a jaguar dealer, just to be sure i would not say it the car as it comunicated with it the first time, so that would say the coms should be ok it might be worth taking it to a dealer and paying for an hours labour, just to get it plugged in and see what faults there diagnostics show up the learning procedure by driving it is old hat now, im sure jaguar do it all by the equipment and software cheers joe
  20. Hi I noticed your in staffordshire, where did you take it out of curiousity cheers Joe
  21. Hi Guys The Ivory color and repair dye thats works on the leather, should work on your trim If you have a scratch, touch up the scratch first with a cloth, then go over the whole panel and it should cover it cheers Joe
  22. HI It can be done with mongoose lead but you need to be sure exactly of what your doing I paid £80 at my local jaguar indy and he did a great job of updating and resetting the adaptions and it drove lovely after I would reset the adaptions my self, but software update on trans, i would not do, if you get it wrong, then you can brick it. jaguar update and reset adaptions after the auto box oil change service, its part of the gearbox service cheers Joe
  23. Hi yes DAB is good, only problem is you need a good signal and sometime a booster to get it in strong so sometimes its on and off in a car, its like digital tv, you need a good signal and descent aerial, which is awkward in a car cheers Joe
