I'm asking for opinions here chaps please :)

Post face-lift S Type (MY06)

SWMBO has asked why we haven't got a leaper on the bonnet.

Got me to wondering whether it would look right on the post face-lift bonnet.

I've been assured they are legal so it comes down to a matter of aesthetics.

Like them?... or loathe them?

Opinions please :)

Matter of choice Paul like you have stated you either like them or loathe them. I personnally would not mount 1 on the XKR however, I would give it some consideration on your model which reminds me of the old mk2 Jaguar that I was brought up with as a kid and loved them

I am racking my brains what can I fit next on my s type, but the leaper ain't on the cards for me!!

Before I bought my car I was looking for one specifically with the leaper on but couldn't find the right one.  In the end I got a car without the leaper thinking I'd fit one as soon as I could, but since I got the car it looks so good without the leaper that I have decided not to get one.  At least not yet.

it's up to you Paul

id fit one on the s type as the style & looks of the s type are based on the MK2 so a leaper would not look out of place

Hi Paul,

I have thought about this too over the two years I have had my s type, but eventually I decided that I would follow the new Jaguar design and have one on the boot lid,

Hi Paul,

I think it was Adamesh,  --  I just googled and found it.  They come in a pair, and I think they were originally intended for either the front wings or just behind the rear passenger windows of the XJ.  I gave away the one leaping left to right.

They do look better on the boot lid, and the size is just right for the S Type.

I like them on the S type.

Don't like them on the X type though, doesn't look right.

Here's mine, £15 off fleabay.

Hi Paul,

When I bought my S Type a leaper was already fitted. Fortunately it's a good quality example, swivels easily and has a nicely machined baseplate. Also, I'm almost embarrassed to admit, there's a rather self-satisfying feeling see it ahead as you drive.

Interestingly, the leaper catches the attention of youngsters, some even commenting about it. However, I've gradually come around to wishing that it wasn't there, preferring the bonnet's unadulterated contours.

Decisions, decisions ...

I've decided that, much as I like to look of the leaper on the S Type bonnet, it would be something which I couldn't step back from if I went ahead so will leave the bonnet as is (for now at least).

I'd be interested to see that Thomas. Also interested to see how robust the adhesive is.

Hi yes its the sticky stuff that bothers me, should be on for the meet so will have a good idea by then

Been looking at a leaper for bonnet. But there seems such a large variance in price(and quality)??.

Anyone know of a reasonably priced good quality supplier?

Hi Colin,

Try Adamesh or the David Manners Group.

Some stockists used eBay and Amazon.

You do get what you pay for, though.

Regards,

Peter.

Having driven a 55 plate with a leaper then driving mine without, I think I'd like to put one on my S Type... its all about the target practice ;) just kidding.... there is something about having that leaper on the bonnet. I imagine it'd be easy to fit... I have the standard Jaguar 3 Litre badge at the moment attached to my bonnet.

I'm indecisive at the moment, but it was great test driving the 55 with a leaper..

They are certainly simple enough to fit Christopher, assuming you can measure accurately. Even I could probably do it

On the mk1 S type the hole is under the badge so it's as simple as carefully removing the badge then fitting the leaper through the bonnet.

Later cars the hole isn't there but on the inside of the bonnet there's a cutout with the hole position stamped out.

All a did was drill a pilot hole in the centre of it then from the outside used a step drill to open it up to accept the leaper base.

Certainly scary times drilling into the bonnet but imho worth it.

Yes, yours is a mk1.

Cars with the growler in the grille are mk2/facelift cars.

Look up inside the bonnet and you will see the hole with the badge poking through.

Well, I've got all the will-power of a soggy Kleenex

I was over at my friends' place this morning and their S Type has the leaper on the bonnet.

First thing I did when I got home was to order one.

No will-power at all.
