Forum Rules.

Recommended Posts

Every club has rules which are there to ensure that all matters are conducted in a friendly and positive way.

The Jaguar Owners Club has rules which are rarely infringed, which demonstrates how good the membership is.  I have read the rules of other clubs whose rules are more stringent, and I will quote from one:-

"The Administrators of this forum reserve the right to add to/delete or modify any of the forum rules at any time, they further reserve the right to add to/delete or edit any member's posts to reflect those rules. We don't like to do this, but sometimes a little discipline is needed"

The JOC rules could be summarised as follows:-

Do not post copyright material.

Do not post for the same posting or to increase your post count.

Don't post anything that breaks the law or encourage others to do so.

Do not posts anything that even hints of advertising.  [Promoting something which will give you or any other body with which you are involved pecuniary advantage or similar is an example]

Members must ensure your post is useful.

The Moderators may decide what is acceptable at its absolute discretion.

Any form of hostility to a member of the moderating team will result in a permanent ban.

Anyone whose post has been deleted should  realise that a rule has been infringed of deemed so.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi Jim,

The Forum rules are there for all to see, and I see no reason to put them anywhere else.

Other clubs do things in a different way and I have, in several years of being a moderator is this club, only ever had to remind one person to read the rules, from which I feel that there needs to be no alteration on how and where these Rules should be placed.

New members do not want to be hit with a vast array of "legislation" when they join a club, and with only the odd exception, have members had a post deleted due to infringements of the rules.

Members who join the club do appreciate that it is a friendly club and and appear rather to like the way it works.

I would respectful suggest that if you don't agree with how this club operates  that you devote more time to to the Jaguar related club that you run rather than the JOC.

Regards,

Peter.

Unlike Peter, I have only been a moderator here of just over a year, but in that time, like him, I've only ever noticed one member who clearly hasn't read the rules or thinks themselves above mere petty limitations, even when they are mildly pointed in the right direction.

That being the case, I believe that, for the greatest majority of our users, the location and content of the forum rules is just about right.

Of course, I also firmly believe that almost everybody in this club doesn't actually need the rules because they conduct themselves, naturally, with the decorum one might expect.

I am involved in moderation and admin in several (unrelated) fora and they are usually like the proverbial bear garden compared to here, for which, for what it might be worth, I'd like to thank club members:yes:

I agree- with a friendly club as this no one wants the rules pushed in front of them because they

know how to conduct them self's with out that.

There must be a reason why someone wants to push things close to breaking the rules all the time WHY.???

Lets keep this friendly and all enjoy the good nature of the club .

The point is quite clear,

The JOC rules can easily be found, and the moderators apply them when necessary. We have not found that we need to use them very often.

You are reminded that the rules say that "Any members opposing a moderators decision should do so with the Moderator directly using PM or email in a professional manner"

The rules also say that a member should not post for the sake of posting or to increase you post count.

The moderators have indicated this to you.

Peter.

You may PM any of the Moderators. Simple.

Personally, though, when you say you do not post to raise your post count, I just wonder why you post so much on the JOC Forums and the Foum that you run you don't appear to bother with at all?

Raistlinn says, the club doesn't actually need the rules? If so, why have them in the first place?

If you are going to quote me Jim, please have the courtesy to do so accurately.

To reiterate, for your benefit, what I actually wrote was:-

When one looks at my comment in its entirety, the meaning is quite clear. The word almost is pivotal here, I believe.
