Matt Ff Posted October 29, 2017 Report Posted October 29, 2017 Hi everyone. Just purchased a lovely x type 2.5 SE. I've spend the weekend refining the interior and have a bit of paintwork booked in for Wed. The car will then be immaculate. Lovely car...but a problem. Intermittent red battery light. I've just noticed it comes on when I put on the windscreen heater/ fans. Disappears when switched off. Starts and drives lovely. It's only done 30000 miles with service history. I'm getting the battery checked first (halfords free winter check 馃榾) Cheers聽 Matt Quote
JOE-DOT-COM Posted October 29, 2017 Report Posted October 29, 2017 hi I'd get the battery checked, also, some heater fans take quite a load so could be the cause get them check the alternator is charging correct as well battery is a common problem though cheers joe Quote
Matt Ff Posted October 31, 2017 Author Report Posted October 31, 2017 Well Halfords Basildon were very honest I'm pleased to say. No hard sell. They checked my battery and alternator . No problems. Battery needed聽 recharging. I did this today. Just back from a 40 mile run at 60-70 mph. No light. Runs beautifully. The battery light still comes on however? But only when I put on the front windscreen heater and engine is idle. If I nudge the revs to 1000 it goes off? 聽 I recently left the car standing for 4 days and it started first time. Am I worried unnecessarily? At the end of the day its nearly 12 years old. Quote
Old Peter Posted November 1, 2017 Report Posted November 1, 2017 Hi Matt and welcome to the club. When I bought my first Jaguar, an聽x type 2.5 AWD SE I was told that if the battery was getting low some electrical items on the car would shut down as not necessary for its main operation -- starting the engine. Joe has given you some very good advice, and going back to the simple part of the battery I would check f there terminals are corrected and if the battery is over 5 years old I would guess that it is not fully holding the charge, Regards, Peter. Matt Ff Posted November 1, 2017 Author Report Posted November 1, 2017 Thank you Peter. I set the charger back onto the battery this morning and it went "green" within 10 minutes or so. Therefore I have deduced the drain may be minimal (if at all). I will continue to monitor. The car has covered very few miles since 2014 ( I have all MOT's) The battery has a sticker suggesting Oct 2016. I still have a nagging feeling there is something not right. I love the car so much I will most probably employ an auto electrician. One thing I am certain of is the reversing sensors don't work. I was getting the fault Buzz. I managed to get another module for 拢20 on eBay. This didn't cure the problem so I appear to have wasted my money with this gamble. I have now taken the module off and left the wires loose in the boot. Quote
