Double beep on opening and Diagnostics

Hi All,

I bought myself a 2013 XF S at the weekend and in general am thoroughly enjoying ownership, one niggling thing that I've been trying to sort is that upon unlocking and opening the door I get 2 beeps from the car. Initially I thought that was an option that I could go and turn off, though upon investigation I'm lead to believe that these 2 beeps are indicative of a fault. I've checked and all doors lock as expected and there are no alerts when locking the vehicle.

If I go into the car settings then "Security/Vehicle" theres a message at the top stating "Alarm Triggered by : Drivers Door" now the alarm hasn't been triggered and I'm guessing this is probably why its beeping as I open it. Is there a simple way to reset this? I was thinking of removing the 2 batteries for 30 minutes to see if that sorts it out but curious to know if anyone has experienced similar? also is there anything to be aware of when removing the battery (handbrake etc).

Next question is whats the general consensus of diagnostics kit to use with these vehicles? Im not looking to do any variant programming or anything like that but am interested in being able to read and clear fault codes from each of the individual car modules and perhaps relearn the rear callipers so I can do my own brakes etc. I've been briefly looking at the icarsoft but unsure if theres something better/cheaper available?

Hmm my sat nav fell off the window and triggered the alarm and that caused a beep or two when I unlocked the car? Could it be an alarm issue I wonder? I think you need to access a reader and see what ( if any ) codes are showing.

Advice needed please, I can lock my jag but can only unlock using the emergency key, no doors will open so I doubt it's mechanism problems

Hi Ray and welcome.

Is it all doors that unlock with the emergency key or just the door you are using the key in? Will the other doors unlock from inside the car? This sort of issue is often caused by a low battery but may need a garage to sort once it has happened as the software can be corrupted. Some Jag main dealers seem to go straight to "you need to change 2 of the computer modules and that'll be £1000 please". However there are others (Jag dealers included) who will sort it much cheaper. Garages that use the Autologic computer system seem able to sort in minutes for less than £100. Basically they are able to put a new copy of the cars software into the corrupt module from one of the copies stored in the car itself.

Let us know how you get on.

Regards

John

I get the double beep sometimes (maybe every time, I haven't really taken much notice), but no alerts or warnings. I thought it was just an indication that the system was set to 2 stage unlocking? Everything seems to work as it should.

My understanding is that a double beep indicates a failed lock test so the car thinks one or more door(s) or boot/tailgate has failed to report a successful lock engagement, not the same as an actual failure to lock 🙂

I only get it when unlocking, not locking.

I'll take more notice of what happens next time.
