Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT π And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well π For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 π4 points

I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.4 points

Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued,becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. ...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers π It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.3 points

Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!3 points

Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.3 points

Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')3 points

If you can, find another headlamp and unplug your offside/drivers headlamp and plug the wiring into the "spare" unit. If the fault persists, it's not the headlamp, if the DRL comes up bright on the spare unit then it's the light unit. However, you may find if the spare is bright, the original might "miraculously" become bright - this points to corroded/dirty connections within the plugs.2 points

did you scan it for errors? these are not easy to diagnose, might as simple as wiring, but difficult to track where exactly2 points

Steve, just as an aside, I know no longer pertinent to your original question, but: a good turn out at an X150 seminar organised by the JEC last weekend. One of the key points related to oil services for the 5L V8. David Marks was the technical/ mechanical guru delivering the presentation His advice was that the single most important maintenance step for the engine was that annual or 6k miles oil replacement/service was not just recommended, but in his experience ,essential for the long and trouble free life of the engine. Further to the regime, critical too that the oil used is CASTROL EDGE PRO, 0-20W, which is specifically recommended for JLRV8 engines. This oil even if your filler cap states 5-20, as Jaguar later a made advisory that 0-20 is the recommended grade.2 points

Lower the window by 11". Remove the door card and sticky foam, cut thru the flexible glue. Loosen the two window clamp bolts and remove the glass, always use a suction cup to hold the glass. Remove the speaker box then disconnect the connectors from the door lock and window motor - access the window connector via the port in the door. Unbolt and remove the window slider frame. I have removed the window motor and gearbox but it is not strictly needed, using T25 remove the DC motor and worm drive. Clean the shaft and apply a mid to heavy grease. The light oil used by Jaguar dries and there is metal contact, greatly slowing the DC motor. With that done replace, paying attention to the brush contacts. Re assembly is a reverse of the procedure. With the glass now in keep the window bolts loose and close the window fully, now tighten the glass clamps. Result: one rejuvenated window motor.2 points

Hello, fellow Jaguar enthusiasts, I'm John Kattenhorn, and I'm excited to finally be joining this community. I've been promising myself to get more involved since January! My recent journey with Jaguar began in 2021. My wife and I have always had a passion for unique vehicles, which led us to acquire two Jaguars - an I-Pace for our company and an F-Type R as a retirement gift. The F-Type was particularly special as a substitute for our motorcycle adventures, which my wife was enjoying less. I mostly did the longer rides to spend time with her. π The F-Type R has been our faithful companion, especially during the summer months. It has significantly reshaped our travel preferences. Since COVID-19, we've found joy in exploring Europe's scenic routes in the F-Type, favoring it over flying. We are pretty excited to be awaiting the arrival of our new F-Pace SVR next Tuesday. It's set to replace our I-Pace as our daily driver. We've had only one issue with the I-Pace's charging flap, but aside from that, it's been flawless. I'll be sad to see it go. Surprisingly, I find myself feeling nostalgic about the Jaguars we are losing as the brand progresses through its transformation. Hi Paul, No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter. You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.2 points

For sale - Trigger`s antique broom? 1st reg Feb 2009 this car shows mileage of 198,000 but ...... A replacement Short Engine has only done 75,000. Coolant Rail, Aux Drive Belt, Water Pump, Radiator Fan A/C Condensor and Supercharger Nose Cone have done 35,000. Both Fuel Pumps have done 29,000. The Alternator has done 28,000. All engine Timing Chains and Fuel Pump Camshaft have done have done 25,000 and both Fuel Injector Rails have only done 8,000. The XKR 5ltr is a phenomenal car and this is a great opportunity to get one you can trust. I`ll be fully open about it`s history and also about what it might need next. I`m open to offers around Β£9,000 to Β£10,0002 points

Well I'm feeling chuffed with myself! Like many S owners I have experienced the dreaded headlamp droop, I managed to get a second hand pair and fitted them, but although working, I was conscious that due to their age, that they too could droop at any time, and that they are cloudy, I had been apprehensive about repairing them myself, however after trawling through the how to vids on Utube I decided to bite the bullet, I bought a set of new adjusters online and a headlamp polishing kit, totaling Β£30 put the headlamps in a pre heated oven at 80c for 20 minutes, resting on some wood to avoid any hot spots, They came apart easier than I had anticipated, I used fresh microfibre cloths to to polish the inside of the perspex, and warm breath and cloth for the silver, fitted the new adjusters, re assembled them, back in the oven for 20 minutes, bingo, all back together. I then set about polishing the lenses, with the polishing kit 800, 1000, 1500, 3000, grade, then polishing compound, and finally sealer. I must say, although not perfect for my first attempt I'm very pleased, the transformation is excellent. From removal to re installing took around 6 hours! π For some reason the left side of the bumper wouldn't let go! I have shown the car with the lights on, the right is refurbished, the left isn't the left is diffused because of the foggy lense, I hope this article gives others the courage to have ago as it save a lot of money! I'm now going to refurbish the second pair so that I have spares in case of a mishap!2 points

Hi all, just bought my first Jaguar 2 weeks ago, 07 plate S Type, it's been looked after very well, mostly Jaguar dealer stamps in the service book, A very low 76,000 miles, It's just a dream to drive. Already had lots of comments, nice car, lovely car, even had a merc driver tell me how nice a car it was. Hope to meet some of you at future meets. Dave in Yorkshire.2 points

Dear Jaguar lovers, I am a new member and seeking your advice. I am about to purchase my very first Jaguar XF. Unfortunately I donβt have anyone who can advise me on what things should I check before purchase, so hoping for your knowledgeable opinion. I found what seems like a perfect car for me, 2017 portfolio XF with 2.0 diesel engine, with 47k miles on the clock. What potential issues can come up at this mileage and age? What should I check/ask the dealer for before purchase? from my online research I gathered that the display sometimes may be lagging so I will definitely check that, apart from that I found that timing belt/chain should be replaced at some point around that mileage as well as oil in the gearbox (itβs automatic) how much do these usually cost. also, how much on average do you spend on servicing your XFs? Iβm very keen to buy this car, but just want to ensure I do all checks possible for smooth driving as well trying to get better understanding how much will I need to have a side for regular maintenance. Hi Sofia, I bought a 2017 XF-S last year, my second XF (first was a 2011). Only problem so far is glow-plugs not working (cold weather only!), not sure if it's the plugs or the controller, but I need to get it seen to before next winter! BTW, I'm an Essex boi too, from Tilbury, now living in Sussex, where you at? Good luck with your XF - they're great! J2 points
