Hi Pete, and welcome to the club. Buying and keeping one of the last models of any car is often a good bet. With a Jaguar, it is a better bet! I have thought about partially blanking the EGR valves on my s type - the V6 has two and you cannot fully blank them - but when the P0402 code appears, it is either a good blast on the A38 or a can of Wynnns Diesel EGR cleaner for about £8 which works and saves doing a very mucky job. At my age I don't bother about getting my hands too oily any more, and if something easy works, I tend to do that. Regards, Peter.

Hi Stephen, Removing the DPF is an automatic fail on the MOT, but as it is a visual inspection only some owners get away with it. But as you found, the software will show it has gone. Regards. Peter.

Hi Chris, There is a spray you can get which rewaterproofs Belstaff jackets and similar, which I have used when we had a ragtop years ago. But generally speaking, the convertible roofs are pretty good in the wet. regards, Peter.

Welcome to the club, Chris. I saw a post some months ago concerning car washes, and the Jaguar owner in question found a lot of swirls on his car caused by the cleaners who did the car wash. He was very unhappy, particularly when it cost him £200 to return the car it its former glory. I tend to use microfibre cloths, starting off with a cool water wash followed by a good quality shampoo -- Halfords do a good one, but I find Auto Glym pretty good too. A good rinse off -- two or three buckets of water, and then a good dry. A couple of hours is all it takes. When it is hot and sunny is not a good time to wash your car either. Regards, Peter.

Hi Mark, There are several paint suppliers online but you will need your VIN number. Halford unfortunately do not stock Jaguar paints. If you have a local Car accessory shop, he will often have access to the name of a supplier and could probably get you the paint you need. Regards, Peter.

I haven't got that little hatch on my s type, Paul, thought I still have a full set of clubs [inc 2 iron for use at Tettenhall] and one of those ceramic Drivers for use at the Belfry. The Belfry is now too expensive for pensioners, and I only used to play there when invited to a Company function. Peter.

My Rover used to do that, too. I have not taught my Jaguars to do that as my knees are now too bad and my back aches after 14 holes. Peter.

Hi Rod, I don't think that there is a generic code. You can get the code from other places rather than Jaguar, who are inclined to charge a lot of money. Most good garages have a gadget that will tell you. Regards, Peter.

Hi, Nick, Front or rear? The rear bulbs are very simple. Just detach the boot lining at the offending side, carefully lift out the lights panel, and replace the bulb. The front I know nothing about as the 2007 model does not have them fitted as standard and are not on my car. Regards, Peter.

Hi Richard, and welcome to the club. I don't have noise problems from the gearbox -- only the odd ZF lurch. There is a Club friendly company -- Mackies Transmissions -- who could well advise. Unfortunately they are inScotland, but they are a top company in the transmissions field. They might be worth a 'phone call. Just a thought however, try driving in 4th gear or 5th, then 3rd or 2nd, and see it the feel is still there. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
