  1. Hi Phill, and welcome to the Club. I do know that talks with Unite about pay are underway and have been adjourned for three weeks as from today, but there is no indication about any industrial action of any kind and work is going on as normal. I do know that when there is a glut of cars on the market due to low sales that can be a reduction in production, but I also know that demand for Jaguar Cars has not diminished, rather the opposite. The Birmingham Evening Mail reports nothing about Jaguar other than what I have said. And I do have some connections with the Unions at Castle Bromwich and can tell you that nothing is awry. I can guess that your local dealer made a promise he cannot keep. I live only 6 miles from Castle Bromwich, and other than a 4 car pile up closing the M6 is the only news from that area today! I would have a discussion with your local dealer asking for a loan car for the 10th and see what happens. Tell him that the company will get mentioned in your speech and that information will be passed on to the press! Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, Barry. I got the up to date disc for my S Type and at a 2012/2013 date, too. I find it quite easy but I can imagine a 2003 disc would be found guilty of leading you up a garden path - literally. Regards, Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, Matt. Careless drivers get up my nose, too, as I like to have a nice tidy car. I think that the S Type is a car with that element of nostalgia and a model I always wanted when I saw my friends Mk1 which he had painstakingly restorered over a year or so. I have had mine for 15 months now after someone borrowed my X Type on an interest free non returnable basis. You will enjoy your S Type as it can be a wolf in sheep's clothing, or vice versa when driven like a limousine! Regards, Peter.
  4. Welcome to the club, Barry, and could I say a very good post to start! You are quite correct, as the facelift was cosmetic rather than anything else. Regards, Peter. Lancastrian in exile.
  5. That's good, Richard. And on the topic of Ben Nevis, I did that a few years ago, after Snowdon and Sca Fell Pike. But I did not think the knees would hold up for a one day trip! Peter.
  6. Welcome to the Club, Padraig. It doesn't look as if diagnostic tools can solve the problem. --- unless the diagnostic connection is faulty. I think it could be a case of going back to basics with a few spanners got out of the tool box and oily hands. There could be a member who has come across this before. Good Luck Regards, Peter.
  7. Chris, Your car looks absolutely fantastic. Showroom quality! Peter.
  8. I was a witness in an Employment when a Barrister asked me the same question 5 times. I gave him the same answer fire time which was "No". He put his head in his hands and said "Forgive me for being dim .. " but before he could go on i replied "I do" It is sometime almost music hall.
  9. I had not long had the S Type when it happened and was just about to set off for Leeds. I found out later when it happened again that I had not got any metric sized spanners!
  10. It does, Kenny. I have a bit of legal knowledge in Employment Law having been a member O Employment Tribunals for 18 years. I have also represented people at Tribunals and was once told by a Chairman that I should have been a Barrister. I found too that sometimes the right words and a phone call were good enough. Peter.
  11. You did the right thing, Kenny. Sometimes the threat of legal action is enough when to an ordinary person what the offender has done is wrong. I have just recently changed my recovery company [britannia Rescue - LV] because the "Agent" they sent out with an enormous tow truck to deal with a stuck handbrake [electric] said that he knew nothing about "these modern cars". My daughter's boyfriend who was in the house googled the issue and found that if you disconnected the battery it would release the handbrake. When I told the man that he opened the bonnet to look for the battery [which is in the boot]. The same man came some years ago when my then car had a loss of power. I was late Tuesday evening and I know my mobile mechanic goes out with his motorbike on Tuesdays. The man said there was nothing wrong with the car. The next day my mobile mechanic diagnosed a faulty coil pack. That is the problem with some recovery companies. The operators now nothing about cars! Peter.
  12. Good advice, Kenny. Finding which one is the hard bit, replacing a dud one is much easier. Peter.
  13. Hi James, An Independent garage might be a bit cheaper. I don't get oily hands any more, and have used the same mobile mechanic for 12 years or so, but there are some embers who are experienced in doing jobs like that. There is a topic on Jaguar Owners Lounge with a list of independent garages across the country. Regards, Peter.
  14. I might try for it myself. First step, Get into good books, paint something or dig some garden, then talk about it for three days and it might work. Peter.
  15. Hi Paul, We had an XR3i - convertible in Bright Red, but we sold it after I retired as we only needed one car. There are no Haynes manuals for the S Type but there are some specific manuals that you can download and can be found by googling around. I do recall some members having done the job of sill removal and refitting without any great trouble. You are able to go back on the posts in the s type section of the site and pull out some useful information. I don't get under the car any more --- it takes too long to get back up! Regards, Peter.
  16. Hi Chris, and welcome to the club. There are quite a few member who know a lot about the oily bits and will help with any problems. I researched the S Type before I bought one - a late model with the 2.7 diesel with twin turbos. I bought the diesel ar since I retired we only keep one car and we wanted a bit of economy as well as it bit os speed. One of the things I did was have the Terraclean service which does a very good engine clean out and is work the £125 or so that it costs. The other tip I have is to use to quality fuel rather than the cheap supermarket fuel, which is worth it both for economy and engine performance. You will enjoy your s type, which in my opinion will become a future classic, Regards, Peter
  17. Hi Ryan, I thought of upgrading mine, till I found out how much they cost ----- and I don't go out at night too much, so I didn't bother. Peter.
  18. Just guessing, Terence, but it could be the module itself. Peter.
  19. I have had quite a few, Chris, all for small amounts. But the best one was a lot of noughts with a £ in front of them. Self assessment was a bit of a pain but they have stopped asking me to do it, and I just send them an estimate of what my income for the coming year will be every March. Peter.
  20. Yes, Bryn, cars do go just like that. My driveway is big enough and the entrance is wide enough but the road, with houses built about 100 years ago, is not that wide and with the council allowing parking on both sides of the road, the turn in is not easy. But I have my s type which is a great car which I can just squeeze in and reverse the car to drive out. Regards, Peter.
  21. Welcome to the Club, Bryn. I do like your car. I nearly bought one similar, but in Black, three years ago, but it was a long wheelbase and awkward to get into my driveway. It was in absolutely marvellous condition, but the insurance was very high as it had been owned by the Queen --- one of a few "Royal" cars. Enjoy the club! Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Ryan, On the question of location sensor I am unsure where it is on the 2.5 Petrol engine as I have a diesel. If the gauge is showing normal I am only guessing that it could be a faulty sensor. You can google Coolant sensor location - S Type 2.5 litre and you should get several diagrams. On the question of a refurbishment of the key fob have a look at the website of Taunton Jaguar - I did the same job on my car using them online. To get a new key, I think that you may well have to go to a Jaguar Main dealer. You will need to take your car details -- log book, as it used to be called! Regards, Peter.
  23. Welcome to the club, Ryan. Possibly a faulty sensor or loose connection. These modern cars have all these wonderful things on, but I find the best way is to look for the cheapest way first. Regards, Peter.
