  1. I don't think so, Mike. It certainly does not need to be reprogrammed on my S type. There are full instruction on how to replace the battery in the key fob in the handbook. You can even buy the batteries in the 99p Shop! Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the Club, Alan. Vintage S Type -- one of the first. Good Luck. Peter.
  3. Welcome to the Club, Col. It does look very like a new battery. I have heard that when a modern battery dies, it dies quickly. It could be worth taking if off and having it tested --- but they are a fair weight to carry. My S Type had a new battery in 2012 -- when it was 5 years old. Regards, Peter.
  4. I think the S Type is a future Classic car. Reading some of the posts on this topic, I am not surprised at the comments. I have an Indigo Blue SE with the 2.7 Diesel engine with 52k on the clock, and as long as I give it a long run once a month [which is fun rather than duty] I will not have problems with DPS. There were only 290,500 S Types built -- and they were built just 6 miles from where I live. The USA had 119,700 S Types, Canada had 5,425, Australia had 3,025, and Japan 4,150 and Europe had 43,000. The UK had around 55,000. Other exports must be miscellaneous. The site I found these figures admits to having approximations, as the figures were produces by Ford, but it, mostly it does show that the car was very well received in the USA, mostly in the 3 litre version. No 2.5 litre or diesel S types apparently never crossed the Atlantic. When the car was first manufactured in 1999 there were 53,000 made and similar in 2000, but manufacture dropped off year by year after the x type was produced, with 2007 being the final year of manufacture with only 11,000 being built and only 4500 registered in the UK. So will the S Type be a future classic? I think it will. You either like the style or you don't, but whatever your preferences, you cannot deny that a well looked after S Type can be a head turner. Quite a few younger enthusiasts are buying Jaguars and enjoying the drive that they are experiencing, which is a good point in favour of the S Type being a future classic. When I got my first Ford Escort MK 1 in 1971 [000459K] I never thought it would become a classic, but it did. So why not the S type?
  5. And welcome to the club, Phil. You will be of great assistance to us Luddites, who can take apart SU or Solex carburettors, and fit new shoes on to drum brakes, but who are rubbish with the electronics. Peter. An exiled Lancastrian.
  6. Now Enjoy, Mike. Have some nice journeys round God's County! Peter.
  7. The local dealership has some very good offers on all models, Colin. They wanted me to change my S Type for a more up to date model, but being almost 80, cash needs to be more in my back pocket at the moment than in a car dealers, and I enjoy my S Type very much. Regards, Peter,
  8. With a full tank of petrol it would reach two tonnes, though!
  9. Hi Mike, My Samsung Galaxy Fame had a bit of a problem, it connected but refused to transfer the data from my SIM card, and I had to get a new card. If yours is not pairing with your XF, it might be that there was another phone paired and it has not been deleted. Regards, Peter.
  10. It looks very good, Graham. I was behind an XK Couple yesterday afternoon, dark green with black wheels --- it leo looked great. You are right about depreciation. I bought an 8 month old Rover Sterling in 2000 -- 2.5 litre V6, with very bell and whistle a 1999 car could have. New it cost £27k, and 8 months later I paid £12500. I kept it till 2011! Enjoy your XK. Regards, Peter.
  11. That's looking good, Josh. Driving a Jaguar is an experience. Peter.
  12. The s type Diesel automatic is 1790kg --- nearly as heavy as your XJ, Trevor. Only aluminium bonnet though! Peter
  13. Interesting topic, as yesterday, getting out of the way of a police car with all lights flashing, I scuffed my nearside front alloy. The good news is that it wa just the rime that was scuffed, it was the only wheel that had ever been really scuffed, and it was over the previous scuff. Rimblades will do the job! Peter.
  14. Looking forward to your news Josh. And then some photos! Peter
  15. Thanks, Simon. It gives me some thoughts, as I have the 18" wheels on my S type. Regards, Peter.
  16. The short answer, Mike, is "yes". I don't know how or where to get the kit, but I understand that the MP3 is popular bit of electronic entertainment, so my son tells me, and he has it connected on his Mazda 3. I am just a Luddite and am just getting the hang of CD players. I am sure someone will have done it on the Forum, but failing that I think Maplins might be able to point you in the right direction. Regards, Peter
  17. Hi Mike, and welcome to the Club. Generally all the Jaguar models are well equipped so basically the choice is between either economy or performance, although all perform quite well. The early models had a 2 litre diesel and the 2.7 litre diesel, with later models getting slighter larger engines, a 2.2 and a 3.0 litre engines, which are still quite economical. A mate of mine has a 3.0 Litre Portfolio and thinks it is one of the best cars he has ever driven --- and being a former CEO he has had Jaguar XJS models for years. Whatever your choice you will enjoy it. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Josh, You are of the same mind as me in respect of a warranty. I have only bought one car without one from whom you described as a dodgy dealer. The exhaust fell off the first weekend I had it. Peace of mind in respect of the costly items is all you need. I don't think you would find a car under £2000 from a Jaguar main dealer as they tell me that they put them through the auction system or sell them on to smaller dealers. Let us know how you go on. 112k is not a huge mileage, and if all the bigger jobs have been done you will enjoy the S type. Regards, Peter.
  19. I think your daughter is right about BMW's, especially convertibles. The Jaguar is far more refined. It is also made in Brummagem. Peter, living on a slight hill where all the subsoil is gravel, but a bit higher than Gravelly Hill.
  20. Try the David Manners group in Oldbury, Ding. They have a good site with a parts list, and specialise in older cars, but also do have a specific Jaguar Parts section. Peter.
  21. Hi Paul, It is not really off topic, as Warranties are important. When I bought my Jaguar I did ask about exactly what the warranty covered, and they said full Jaguar warranty for three months. They even spelt out that is was parts and labour also. Regards, Peter.
  22. A chap who sits on the same committee as do I has a lightweight E-Type. [i need a photo off him next time I see him] He restored it himself and now wants to sell it in order to buy an F type as he wants to own one while he is still young enough. He would have bought an S type had there been an Estate version built!!
  23. Hi Josh, I have had a look around on sites such as Auto Trader and Piston Heads. Prices for 02 plates seems to vary between £1250 and £2200, and a lot will depend of mileage, service history, and condition. It is usually better to buy from a reputable dealer rather ebay, as sometimes a dealer will give you a warranty, although probably a short one. The price does not seem to be out of line, but remember that tyres can cost over £200 each, so I would check them. A tyre tread gauge does not cost very much and always worth having in the pocket when looking at used cars. I would also suggest that you give it a good test drive to make sure that it handles OK and that all the electric bits work. I would also check that it has had any recommended service replacements done at the correct mileages. Regards, Peter.
  24. It has something in common with my S Type --- the colour! Peter.
