  1. The local dealership has some very good offers on all models, Colin. They wanted me to change my S Type for a more up to date model, but being almost 80, cash needs to be more in my back pocket at the moment than in a car dealers, and I enjoy my S Type very much. Regards, Peter,
  2. With a full tank of petrol it would reach two tonnes, though!
  3. Hi Mike, My Samsung Galaxy Fame had a bit of a problem, it connected but refused to transfer the data from my SIM card, and I had to get a new card. If yours is not pairing with your XF, it might be that there was another phone paired and it has not been deleted. Regards, Peter.
  4. It looks very good, Graham. I was behind an XK Couple yesterday afternoon, dark green with black wheels --- it leo looked great. You are right about depreciation. I bought an 8 month old Rover Sterling in 2000 -- 2.5 litre V6, with very bell and whistle a 1999 car could have. New it cost £27k, and 8 months later I paid £12500. I kept it till 2011! Enjoy your XK. Regards, Peter.
  5. That's looking good, Josh. Driving a Jaguar is an experience. Peter.
  6. The s type Diesel automatic is 1790kg --- nearly as heavy as your XJ, Trevor. Only aluminium bonnet though! Peter
  7. Interesting topic, as yesterday, getting out of the way of a police car with all lights flashing, I scuffed my nearside front alloy. The good news is that it wa just the rime that was scuffed, it was the only wheel that had ever been really scuffed, and it was over the previous scuff. Rimblades will do the job! Peter.
  8. Looking forward to your news Josh. And then some photos! Peter
  9. Thanks, Simon. It gives me some thoughts, as I have the 18" wheels on my S type. Regards, Peter.
  10. The short answer, Mike, is "yes". I don't know how or where to get the kit, but I understand that the MP3 is popular bit of electronic entertainment, so my son tells me, and he has it connected on his Mazda 3. I am just a Luddite and am just getting the hang of CD players. I am sure someone will have done it on the Forum, but failing that I think Maplins might be able to point you in the right direction. Regards, Peter
  11. Hi Mike, and welcome to the Club. Generally all the Jaguar models are well equipped so basically the choice is between either economy or performance, although all perform quite well. The early models had a 2 litre diesel and the 2.7 litre diesel, with later models getting slighter larger engines, a 2.2 and a 3.0 litre engines, which are still quite economical. A mate of mine has a 3.0 Litre Portfolio and thinks it is one of the best cars he has ever driven --- and being a former CEO he has had Jaguar XJS models for years. Whatever your choice you will enjoy it. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Josh, You are of the same mind as me in respect of a warranty. I have only bought one car without one from whom you described as a dodgy dealer. The exhaust fell off the first weekend I had it. Peace of mind in respect of the costly items is all you need. I don't think you would find a car under £2000 from a Jaguar main dealer as they tell me that they put them through the auction system or sell them on to smaller dealers. Let us know how you go on. 112k is not a huge mileage, and if all the bigger jobs have been done you will enjoy the S type. Regards, Peter.
  13. I think your daughter is right about BMW's, especially convertibles. The Jaguar is far more refined. It is also made in Brummagem. Peter, living on a slight hill where all the subsoil is gravel, but a bit higher than Gravelly Hill.
  14. I did. £8k more!
  15. Try the David Manners group in Oldbury, Ding. They have a good site with a parts list, and specialise in older cars, but also do have a specific Jaguar Parts section. Peter.
  16. Hi Paul, It is not really off topic, as Warranties are important. When I bought my Jaguar I did ask about exactly what the warranty covered, and they said full Jaguar warranty for three months. They even spelt out that is was parts and labour also. Regards, Peter.
  17. A chap who sits on the same committee as do I has a lightweight E-Type. [i need a photo off him next time I see him] He restored it himself and now wants to sell it in order to buy an F type as he wants to own one while he is still young enough. He would have bought an S type had there been an Estate version built!!
  18. Hi Josh, I have had a look around on sites such as Auto Trader and Piston Heads. Prices for 02 plates seems to vary between £1250 and £2200, and a lot will depend of mileage, service history, and condition. It is usually better to buy from a reputable dealer rather ebay, as sometimes a dealer will give you a warranty, although probably a short one. The price does not seem to be out of line, but remember that tyres can cost over £200 each, so I would check them. A tyre tread gauge does not cost very much and always worth having in the pocket when looking at used cars. I would also suggest that you give it a good test drive to make sure that it handles OK and that all the electric bits work. I would also check that it has had any recommended service replacements done at the correct mileages. Regards, Peter.
  19. It has something in common with my S Type --- the colour! Peter.
  20. I guessed it might be something like that.
  21. Welcome to the Club, James. And let me say, what a good post. Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Simon, The camber is adjustable, I believe. I think you might need some Jaguar expertise to adjust it. Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Josh, Reports indicate that the 3 Litre engine is a good power plant, but I have heard that the R version -- the high performance car is expensive to run --- I don't know why. Models 2004 and over are the face lifted ones with some higher spec options such as the touch screen/satnav. Look out for one with a good service record. A general issue with the s type is that water ingress into the boot should be checked. I had a little but a good examination of the seals found the fault, a twisted rubber, that was easily repaired. Let me know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  24. P.S. Josh, I have just had a look at Stratstone Jaguar who are the biggest main dealers and they have quite a few s type available which will also give you an idea of prices. Peter
  25. Hi Josh ---- Welcome. I spent a long time researching and then looking for an S Type. The last models manufactured were the 2007/8 models and there are some about with relatively low mileages. For a car of that age with about 50k to 60k on the clock you can expect to pay about £8,500 for a 2.7 diesel SE from a main dealer -- probably with a warranty. If you are looking for a car somewhat older with a petrol engine there are some quite inexpensive 3.0 litre petrol versions around and still around too are some of the 2.5 litre cars, which were discontinued when the diesel was introduced. The price varies dependent on how clean the car is. The belts on the diesel need changing at 105,000 miles, so if you are looking for a diesel think about that. I have been very happy with my 2.7 D SE. Regards, Peter.
