  1. I guessed it might be something like that.
  2. Welcome to the Club, James. And let me say, what a good post. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Simon, The camber is adjustable, I believe. I think you might need some Jaguar expertise to adjust it. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi Josh, Reports indicate that the 3 Litre engine is a good power plant, but I have heard that the R version -- the high performance car is expensive to run --- I don't know why. Models 2004 and over are the face lifted ones with some higher spec options such as the touch screen/satnav. Look out for one with a good service record. A general issue with the s type is that water ingress into the boot should be checked. I had a little but a good examination of the seals found the fault, a twisted rubber, that was easily repaired. Let me know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  5. P.S. Josh, I have just had a look at Stratstone Jaguar who are the biggest main dealers and they have quite a few s type available which will also give you an idea of prices. Peter
  6. Hi Josh ---- Welcome. I spent a long time researching and then looking for an S Type. The last models manufactured were the 2007/8 models and there are some about with relatively low mileages. For a car of that age with about 50k to 60k on the clock you can expect to pay about £8,500 for a 2.7 diesel SE from a main dealer -- probably with a warranty. If you are looking for a car somewhat older with a petrol engine there are some quite inexpensive 3.0 litre petrol versions around and still around too are some of the 2.5 litre cars, which were discontinued when the diesel was introduced. The price varies dependent on how clean the car is. The belts on the diesel need changing at 105,000 miles, so if you are looking for a diesel think about that. I have been very happy with my 2.7 D SE. Regards, Peter.
  7. HI Garry, There was a topic a few days ago titled "Car Jolts" which might contain the answer. But it looks like very something very simple. Or does it? Peter.
  8. Hi Dave, I have just coincidentally had a good look at my wheels, and to be quite honest it is not worth spending £300 on them as the scuffs are on the rim and those rim covers appear that they will disguise them adequately. When my wife goes into Boots and M&S I always go into Halfords which is only 200 yards away and mooch around for 45 minutes and see what is going on in there. I will have some fitted when I come to change the tyres, as these days I don't feel like changing tyres myself. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi David, I am also interested in the answers to this question. I have 18" Alloys and they are a bit scuffed by a previous owner. I have thought about a refurb and the cost for that is about £75 a wheel. And there are two bad scuffs. I have had a look at Rimblades which could cover the damage which is all on the rims. There are mixed reviews, although to be fair some users have not followed the instructions. I use Halfords for Tyre replacements and I might try them when I need to replace my current tyres, so it would be interesting to get some user reviews. Regards, Peter.
  10. Hi David, If you know someone with an x or s type with a touch screen system, borrowing his CD for a check might to be a bad idea. When I put my satnav update disc in I put the other in the folder I keep for each car I have owned. If you want to borrow it just PM me with your address and I will post it to you. At least it will check if the system is working. Regards, Peter.
  11. Adamesh were one of the exhibitors at the Classic Car Show last November at the NEC< Birmingham. I had a chat with the guy on the stand, --- they refurbish original chrome parts to quite a high standard -- as well as manufacturing other chromed parts for modern cars. They seemed very good to me. Peter.
  12. Hi Keith, If it fits on the hub it should be OK as a get you home. Those blow up kits do work on an ordinary or slow puncture, but on bad blow out are not to be rely used, so a spare, in my opinion, is essential. It might be worth having a look on ebay or a a breakers site to see what is around. Having a proper spare is a good selling point. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Keith, The "get you home wheel" is a space or weight saver, I suppose. I had one on my x type, but have got a proper one on my s type with matching alloy rim. While I have only had one puncture in the last 15 years, I do like the idea of a "proper" spare. What have you got on your XF? Regards, Peter.
  14. You did the right thing, Keith. It all depends on the wheel sizes. There are three wheel sizes that will fit the S Type -- there was a recent discussion on their compatibility with each other. Whether they would fit different cars I do not know as other issues do come into play. A proper spare wheel in the boot does give more comfortable feeling. Some member might have done it, though. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Keith. I think a visit to a friendly dealer might assist. Regards, Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, John. First, is the boot locked? Obviously you cannot open it electrically, but there is a key entry available on an S type. Just look under the boot lip and to the left you will see it. Just open it with the key. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Deane, It is a sensor [or something like that] that tells the computer the position of the throttle. Decelleration or acceleration. I think Trevor has got it spot on. Before cars got sophisticated you just put some 3 in 1 oil or WD40 on the throttle cable. It is worth googling the words and there you will usually find a video on You Tube. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi John, I have had a look around and during my trawling I found that Haynes were not allowed to make one for the S Type although JTIS have done one on disc. That could be the case for the XJ8 also. It also might be worth contacting BritishpartsUK or the David Manners Group over the 'phone just to check. Other than that, JTIS might also be worth contacting. Hope you are successful. Regards, Peter.
  19. Let me know how it drives, Simon, please. Peter.
  20. Welcome to the Club, Steve. I hope you enjoy your car --- especially when the sun come out up North. Regards, Peter.
  21. It does look very bad up there. Still lovely place to live and it gets better in March! Peter.
  22. Looks a bit more than maybe, Simon. We lived in North Derbyshire for 12 years and my wife has a bit of a hankering for a day out up there. Peter.
  23. Just guessing, but I think so. There are three different sizes of wheels available of the S Type. There seems to be no reason why Jaguar would make differing wheels for two models manufactured at the same time. 16" wheels will mean cheaper tyres. Peter.
  24. Interesting. I might pop in for an hour or so. Just 40 minutes up the road. Peter
  25. I would consider having it done to a new car. I have had my car detailed with a Paint protection product, and it has done the job, although I think that maybe I could have done the job just as well my self with a couple of hours each week hard work using other well known products. I now just need a wash and rinse and a dry off and buff with a microfibre cloth. I have an Indigo Blue car and muck can show on it. But on a sunny day it does look great. Peter.
