  1. Funny you should say that, Paul. My wife said that we might have chosen the wrong type of engine. I do give the car a good run every couple of weeks with some faster acceleration using the S button to keep the revs up and both turbochargers going. It seems to work. I also note the advice of the Jaguar mechanic, which is useful. The 2.7 engine used in the S Type is an engine produced by a Peugeot/Ford collaboration and is regarded as quite technologically advanced. Peter.
  2. Hi Paul, That is bit strange -- Jaguar dealer turning him away! I don't think you were lucky with your glow plus, just careful. Nowadays, and probably due to having company cars for 30 years I get someone else to do the oily bits, and for the last 12 years I have had the same mechanic who has his own mobile business. Let us know how your friend gets on. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hello Dave, Good advice. There is a section on battery removal in the S Type Owners Manual, but not as detailed as you give. I got my spare batteries, which I keep in the car, from a 99p shop. Regards, Peter
  4. Welcome to the Club, Ian. You have already found some of the very nice people on this Forum, and you will get a lot of expert assistance when you need it. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Mark, Glad of that. I take it that the problem is now sorted. I don't know the cause of low pressure, although I have heard that the engine oil plays a part in keeping the right pressure up. Regards, Peter
  6. Welcome to the Club, Mark. I have never had that one with my 2.7 diesel, but £35 is a cheaper diagnostic than the £69 I paid for "Engine Malfunction", which turned out to be the EGR Valve, and I was prompted to spend £30 on a diagnostic scanner, which will save money in the long run. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club, Glyn. I am no expert, I'm afraid, but there are quite a few who are, I would give it a squirt of WD40 --- it could have a touch a damp. I think we saw a bit too much rain lately! Regards, Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, David. I see you have already had some very good and knowledgeable advice. Enjoy the Club and your very nice Jaguar, Regards, Peter.
  9. Welcome to the Club, Tom. You will find a lot of Jaguar owners who just love these cars. The x type has some Mondeo bits in it, but it has been commonplace for the last 60 years for parts and engines to be shared between manufacturers. Even Rolls Royce had a Buick engine since the forties! Enjoy the Club and your Jaguar --- perhaps some pictures on the site. Regards, Peter.
  10. Looking forward to seeing that XK, Matthew, as well as yourself.
  11. I am sure you had an appropriate reply, Trevor!
  12. There must be more than three members thinking of going! It will be a good day out.
  13. Hi Mick, There is a saying over thousands of years old "Experientia docet". ---- Experience teaches. Personally my qualifications are from the University of the World. I once had a person working for me who used to put "Dr" before his name and MA after it, and who was an idiot. [This does not decry people with academic qualifications, who are usually very modest.] Give me a person who has done it rather than a person who has the learning how to do it but who has never done it. That is why the Captain of a ship is the one who who has the same academic qualifications as the most Junior Officer, but far more experience. Regards, Peter.
  14. Welcome to the Club, Nick. The only issue I have with my S Type [2.7 Diesel] is a slight water ingress into the boot. There are others who have more expertise than me who may have come across other items to watch out for. Regards, Peter.
  15. Mick, rest assured that all the members of this forum feel that you have been very helpful. The best way to help people with problems they have and could have is by using the experiences you have had. Exchanging views about topics in which people are interested is a great way of assisting people. An experience that happened to me about 50 years ago taught me something. My motor cycle had broken down about 4 miles from home one Sunday, and I was pushing it along the road after a day's hard work. The lads on motor cycles stopped, one got out a toolkit and used his skill and expertise to repair my motorcycle. Something like that is what this forum about. Regards, Peter.
  16. Just another thought, James. Is the connector to the Brake fluid reservoir dirty? Just might need cleaning to get a good connection. Worth trying tomorrow. Peter.
  17. I was surprised too, Mick. My tyres are 245/40 R18 97Y. Prices for Pirelli vary in this area from between £205 to £149, although I think that the latter price is not an all inclusive one and they charge for other bits. I will probably make a call to Apex sometime.
  18. Hi Simon, I find that the boot on an S type is susceptible to water leaks. I get a spoonful in after a big rainy spell, and having found where is goes I put a piece of folded kitchen towel there. I will also now watch out for the parking assist module. Regards, Peter.
  19. Hi Mick, I have just found out that BFG do not make a tyre in the size required for my S Type. I have a bit of time to look around, though. Peter.
  20. Sounds a bit mystifying, Pete. I had something like that on a Ford Escort years ago and after kicking it a few times found out that it was a fuse. A garage should have found out if it was a fuse, unless they have not been bothered even kicking it! Not only that, the AA usually try to diagnose the problem. Good Luck & keep ringing the garage. Regards, Peter.
  21. I had a slight amount of discolouring on my X Type, but never got down to doing anything serious about it. I did try WD40, which is my normal procedure for anything like that, and also a mild T Cut, without much success. I would be inclined to stick with the specialist products. Peter.
  22. Welcome to the Club, Dan. I am a great admirer of those skilful and passionate people who have the aptitude and enthusiasm to want to restore these beautiful cars. Having said that, I am just one of those people who love driving Jaguars and keeping my car in pristine condition. There is a wealth of knowledge and expertise among the members of the club, and I have no doubt that you will get every bit of assistance you need Regards, Peter.
  23. I had one of the first 6 Honda Dreams imported into the UK. A revelation. I did 120k miles on it and only had the cam chain and clutch replaced, and the wheels rebuilt in all the time I had it. 17 and a half years I was up and down the road to Corby Tube Works at least once a week. The improvement of the A14 was wonderful, and I could get home in an hour and a quarter instead of two hours.
  24. Welcome to the Club, James. It seems like a sensor is not reporting to the brake fluid light on the dashboard. Some one with more expertise than myself will be able to help. There are a lot of really expert members in the club. Regards, Peter.
  25. Well done, Josh. Can we have a photo of your Jaguar with the Jaguar Owners Club Sticker on. Regards, Peter.
