  1. Welcome to the Club, Simon. Similarly I had a Rover Sterling 2.5 Auto for 11 years till I changed to an X Type 2.5 AWD. The Rover was a passengers car, but still a good drive. The Jaguar is a real drivers car and far more fun to drive. Regards, Peter.
  2. That looks like a nice clean car, Mick, and I can see why you recommend that dealer. And the Petrol 2.5 litre seems in good condition too. Some people don't like the 2.5 litre Jaguar but one of my friend bought one from new in 2000 and has still got it without anything serious going wrong with it. And when your read this Dave, let me know as I am less than a hour away from Derby. I can even take you up there from Birmingham. Regards, Peter,
  3. I think I have got it, Trevor, via I cloud. I will let you know how I get on. Peter.
  4. Looks great, Trevor, but I don't seem to be able to get the App on my Macbook pro. Peter.
  5. Welcome to the Club, David. I really enjoy my S Type, great to drive, and surprisingly good fuel consumption. I had a 2.5 Litre Rover Sterling for 11 years and struggled to get 30 mpg. When I had a 2.5 Litre petrol X type I could get 35mpg on a steady run, even though it was a heavier car than the Rover by 200 kg. There are a lot of very knowledgeable Jaguar owners on this site who are very helpful. Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Dave, I have looked at the biggest of the main dealers [stratstone Jaguar] and they have 6 pages of X Type but nothing under £4800. Piston Heads will give you a big selection as will Autotrader, and they will also give an indication of whether it is a private sale or trade. With a mechanic in the family you will be able to follow the excellent guidance from Mick. The biggest "MUST" is always have a good look at the car you like best and see the service history, make sure there are two keys and the Owner's Handbook. Let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  7. Welcome to the Club,Young Adrian. You will enjoy your Jaguar -- when I got my first I was told i would never buy another make. Regards, Peter.
  8. Hi Mick, I think the reason for the price difference is because the front ones are often the first to need replacing. It is all about making money. Regards Peter.
  9. Hi Dave, I have had a look around and apart from the odd gripe "Jaguar main dealer couldn't find out what it was " etc, most reviews speak very highly of both 2.0 litre and 2.2 litre diesels. There are complaints about boot size, and that the estate is not big enough for a genuine estate. Contrary to that, the saloon boot is one of the larger boots for Jaguar of that era, and some reviewers praise the load capacity of the estate. Basically I would look for a car with a full service history, that is also clean and well looked after and as low a mileage as possible, although I have seen some with well into 6 figures that are still going strong. My X Type was a one owner car after a year as a Demonstrator, and that owner was very picky I was very sorry to see it go. Stolen/carjacked. So I would look for a good looking car that has been well looked after and in which everything works, with a proper spare wheel, and if you can get one from a main dealer you will get a warranty. Regards, Peter.
  10. Welcome to the Club, Dave. I had a 2.5 L AWD Petrol X Type and it was a great car. I could get 33mpg on a long run. But the diesel engined X Types are really economical in comparison, and if you do long runs you will get well past 40 mpg. Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Andy, Have you checked the rubber seal round the windows? A piece of kitchen roll inside the rubber seal could give an indication of water ingress. The other possibility is water getting in at the bottom of the doors. I have had a teaspoonful in on the passenger side. Regards, Peter
  12. Hi Jeremy, and Welcome to the Club. I had the same message "Driver's side rear light failed", so I did the usual - I tap with the palm of my hand on the light cluster --- which did not work. I changed the bulb and the message went out. I would also add that when the message centre said the light had failed, it sometimes worked and sometimes didn't. Regards Peter [Exiled Lancastrian]
  13. My wife is a real scouser, with no discernible accent at all, Trevor, the ones in Devon are refugees. A lot of Liverpudlians put on the thick accents, as do Yorkshiremen and Geordies who call it "taakin proppa". Regards, Peter.
  14. Born and lived only 11 miles from Liverpool and lived there for 32 years before emigrating to Wales where I had been working for 5 years, and commuting daily. I know the city very well and can tell what area people come from. For instance, John Bishop has an accent that he is putting on as from a small child he lived in a small town called Middlewich which is in-between Northwich and Nantwich. Regards, Peter.
  15. I had been working in North Wales and indeed lived there, but taking a new job forced a move to Sheffield where most people thought I was Welsh. I had to tell them that I was worse than that --- I was a Lancastrian, and I had been sent to Yorkshire as a missionary to teach them how to play cricket and Rugby League. The Yorkshire accent, and indeed dialect come quite easily. "Us do it reet in Yorkshire, 'cos that's us job." Peter.
  16. Welcome to the Club, Ron. I used to have an X Type [200] which had 17" wheels and ran on Pirellis. Jaguar recommend either Pirellis or Continentals. A friend [who sells Vredestein Tyres] told me not to touch Continentals. I run my S Type on Pirellis with 18" Wheels. Regards, Peter.
  17. Us Lancashire folk always regarded the South as starting when you crossed the Mersey towards Runcorn, but generally most Northerners regards the Trent as the defining landmark. I was once asked in London if I was a foreigner. Regards, Peter.
  18. Sorry, Mark. Senior moment with memory! trevor.catt@autoclubsinternational.com Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Steve. You will get a lot of help from those who are experts in the Club, and there are quite a few very helpful people. Like Trevor, I do not know a lot about the technical parts of cars, just 50 years of driving them. Regards, Peter.
  20. Of course, Trevor. In the Midlands and the North we felt the same. When the Government wanted Coal and Steel they could not do more for those areas. When the Government decided they didn't need coal and Steel any more we got forgotten. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi, Mark and welcome to the Club. Key fobs are a bit of a mystery, and I think with the electrical but being dead you could have to be going to a dealer or a Jaguar specialist to get the bit you need. There is a topic on the Forum concerning Independent garages, who will be cheaper than a main dealer, and it will be worth having a look at that. Regards, Peter.
  22. I bet it is! Low flying springs to mind! When the West of England is dried out you will enjoy it more. We are very lucky up here, but still can't understand why the Government has been so slow in doing something a bit more serious than they have. Regards, Peter.
  23. Jaguar Owners Club for from and rear of car. They look really great. Trevor [the young one] will send them to you. trevor.catt@carclubsinternational.com Regards, Peter.
  24. Sounds great MJR. That sports button is brilliant, especially in a diesel when the twin turbos show what they are for. Regards, Peter.
  25. My favourite part of the world, Paul. The first date with my wife. The same day the Triumph T100 blew up. The place of our honeymoon, and the venue with the children and grandchildren for my 80th birthday and our 50 years together in June. Enjoy the day. Regards Peter.
