  1. Not in my case peter. It's my understanding that they were only fitted with HID headlights to comply with the construction and use regulations regarding the control of dazzle which is associated with HID. Do you have HID headlights?
  2. My disk is a copy I made myself and so far I've never had a moment's problem with it. I'm beginning to wonder whether the sat nav DVD players are taking some sort of militant industrial action ;) Eric, you don't make it clear but I suspect that you've bought a retail DVD, in which case it should be perfect. If you re-try your original and it seems OK then the Navteq disk is undoubtedly faulty :(
  3. Having been bitten by the bug of retro-fitting in my Rover 75 days, I have to say that the S Type is an ideal subject for such things, as I further confirmed today when 16 function memory, heated seats were fitted and the whole job, including the rear seats as well, took less than an hour, with no setting up and no wiring to do B) Talk about plug and play Powered rear window blind and headlamp wash are next on the list
  4. Is your fan running?
  5. Customer support on their website Ron.
  6. It appears that my local store don't know their own stocks. Apparently, the items I ordered have been found. I've just had an e-mail from Halfrauds offering me the items I requested free of charge plus a £25 token for the inconvenience. It pays to complain :)
  7. OK all. I received the confirmation letter today. The HMC reference number, should it be required, is 2176155. This will be a pay as you arrive event and will be at the discounted rate of £8.00. We will have signposted parking apparently. I was wondering if anybody has any contacts so that the meet can be sponsored? One or two members are already trying to do so but I've personally run up against a brick wall with my local dealership. It would make things more interesting
  8. I don't have a problem with the local branch Ron, apart from the wannabee boy racers. My concern is the tactics employed by their management to get people into their stores.
  9. It would be a good idea to get the belt on the other end of the engine changed at the same time whether or not it is quite due, as all the covers will be off anyway. Awkward job but as others have said, no need for a dealer. Any competent mechanic will be able to do it.
  10. I ordered a couple of items via the Halfrauds web site today. Went through all the procedure of checking where my local store was and up it came with a reference number and an assurance that my items would be ready for collection in an hour. Before you throw up your hands in horror, i hasten to add, nothing for fitment to the car of course, merely some cans of Lithium grease. I'm not keen on going to Halfrauds at the best of times but at the weekends it is even worse, trying to thread your way through the hoards of wannabe boy racers to a place where you can keep an eye on the car in case they put their grubby mitts on it. Must admit though it was amusing to hear how their blinged up roller skates would walk all over the S Type In fact, one particularly learned kiddy came out with "stands to reason dunnit? my exhaust is bigger than both of those on that thing" He was partially correct, of course. His exhaust was so big, the only thing bigger was his ego and his gob Anyway, I digress. I handed the assistant the printout with my reference number on it and she disappeared for 5 minutes, returning and stating that they had none of the items apparently set aside for me. I questioned this, reminding her of the online procedure where they confirm stock at the desired location. She had the answer though:- "Oh they always say that. They never actually do a stock check. It's just a way of getting customers into the store in the hope they'll buy more than they intended." I have applied to Halfrauds for compensation for my complete and utter waste of time, effort and fuel.
  11. Did you miss my post Graham?
  12. Would I be right in thinking that you are referring to the Audio Connectivity Module Graham?
  13. Utter twaddle would be my reaction to that, having seen my mechanic replace them without any difficulty.
  14. Alternatively, of course, you can just turn off the sat nav audio instructions. :)
  15. Our presence at Gaydon is now booked :) Just awaiting confirmation.
  16. All the audio devices are linked via the D2B network and are designed so that music is muted when receiving audio , either from sat nav or phone or Jaguar voice. There isn't any way to override it Dave.
  17. Sorted. Cheaper than a new battery or alternator.
  18. One thing to think of as well Adam. Check your alternator belt is the correct tension. If it's slipping, that will also cause the warning light to come on. The intermittent nature of your problem would lead me to check that first. Also, check the alternator is giving a good solid 13.8 volts.
  19. If it happens on a regular basis I would consider getting another cartridge Rob. I never attempted a strip-down of my mirrors. What was recommended to me (and worked like a charm) was to pop the casing off and then spray in some WD40 to initially get them moving and then to follow up with Lithium based spray grease for a more permanent solution. The cause, I think, is corrosion owing to lack of use rather than grit. Mine seem fine now, probably because they are regularly exercised as my mirrors are set to auto extend and retract when the car is locked or unlocked.
  20. Word of mouth is the best recommendation Nick. I asked about mechanics at work 20 years ago and as a result I've been using the same chap ever since for routine stuff.
  21. Nick, I had my discs and pads replaced as a matter of course when I bought my S Type a few months ago. I used a local mechanic and he charged me £230 all in so perhaps that might be a guide figure. This sort of work doesn't need a Jaguar dealer or specialist. Any competent mechanic will do a good job at a reasonable price.
