  1. Thanks Ron. Something for me to think about :)
  2. Jaguar Voice is voice control of various functions of the car. You will have a small telephone symbol on the audio control switches on the left hand side of the steering wheel. If you press that button and it mutes your audio for a second or two, that suggests Jaguar Voice. The microphone will be immediately obvious on a 2007 model car. Earlier cars had it installed within the overhead console but yours will be easily visible David :) Clearly, if you don't have the microphone then you won't have Bluetooth or JV.
  3. What effect does blanking the EGR have on the car please Ron? Also, does it affect the MOT?
  4. Just had a message back from Gaydon and they tell me that a group of 12 or more will qualify for group entry rate of £8.00 Furthermore, they will provide parking and signage. Anybody want to add to the numbers?
  5. The CDC, if you had one, would be immediately obvious on the left had side of the boot. As would the DVD drive if you had sat nav. If your phone doesn't detect any Bluetooth signal from the car then either it wasn't fitted or the Bluetooth module is kaput. Bluetooth handsfree is an easy retrofit if required and would work as an integral part of your audio system. Do you have a microphone in the roof just to the right of the roof console? If not, then you don't have the bluetooth phone system. Do you have Jaguar Voice?
  6. They are not designed to work from the key fob Ron. To do so requires a small mod to the wiring in the driver's door.
  7. If my S Type hadn't had powerfolds I was going to have to retrofit them as my garage door is only just wide enough with both mirrors folded :D Plus I like the way they fold in and out automatically when I lock and unlock the car My next retro-fit is 16 way heated seats
  8. Always a thought for a future meet :) Now let's see who is up for this meet.
  9. Thanks Ron :) It is next to impossible for me to get a day off during the week at the moment as I have some of my staff on long term sick. So much so, that I'm having to lecture and run tutorials myself Happy to be a focal point for the admin though. I live within easy walking distance of the new JLR plant in Wolverhampton. I that one of the factories you were considering by any chance?
  10. There's no way to get into the D2B fibre optic audio chain other than the ACM Ben. They are expensive, if you can find one for £200 you have a bargain :) Can you let me know where they are available for that price please Ben? One of my colleagues is after one but refuses to pay £380. One advantage of using the ACM is, all of your audio, sat nav, phone, Jaguar Voice etc are connected together so the iPod becomes integral with the rest of the system, therefore controllable ( up to a point) from the touchscreen. If, as you say, the car has all the extras it will have the built-in hands free. Presumably you have the sat nav DVD player in the boot? If so, connecting a CDC is simple B) No experience with your handsfree kit Ben so can't comment. What I will say though, and bear in mind please that music preferences are necessarily subjective, is that I heard an iPod being used via an FM transmitter in another S Type and I have to say that I wouldn't have the thing in my car under any circumstances. Don't forget, only my subjective opinion BTW, are you sure your car doesn't have powerfolding mirrors? The reason I ask is that I didn't realize I had them on my car until I obtained a Jaguar priintout of my car's original spec.
  11. Hi all, Following a certain amount of positive reaction to my previous thread, Peter and I have decided to put plans in motion :) We are planning a West Midlands meet at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon. Here is what you can expect:- http://www.heritage-motor-centre.co.uk/ The date for our meeting will be SATURDAY 19th September 2015. As I understand it, the HMC will provide us with dedicated parking, etc. if we can get enough cars to attend. Although I've entitled it as a West Midlands meet, I hope it goes without saying that all are welcome :D If we can get sufficient numbers we will hope to get sponsorship as well. Please make a post below if you want to go and I will keep a running list here. Perhaps you would be good enough to annotate your post to say which vehicle you will be bringing please? JAGUARS lots of em LOL Paul (Raistlin) S Type Peter (Old Peter) S Type Steve (pablojag1) XKR Ron ( guardian x type est 2009) +1 ? Stan. 12. I was wondering if anybody can come up with some definitive answers regarding the DPF(s) please? Do they need to be on the car for the MOT? Will the car run properly if they are removed? Will the car run better if they are removed? Where are they? Not looking for a "saints versus sinners" debate here chaps and chapesses :) Just the facts :)
  13. Certainly sounds like a weak battery Jane. Perhaps you could take it off-line and charge it overnight. It should be obvious, if your charger has a meter, that the initial charging current will be high but will have fallen to almost nothing the next morning. One other thing that would be helpful, if you have (or can borrow) a multimeter, is to measure the battery voltage when fitted to the car (should be 12 volts) and then start the engine and letting it idle, check again when the voltage should be 13.8 volts or thereabouts. That will enusre that the alternator is working properly.
  14. Audio connectivity module is the OEM route. Simple to install but pricy. CDC will cost roughly £80 on fleabay.
  15. This has certain echoes of a weak battery. Can you give your battery an offload charge and see if makes things better?
  16. Well, from that I assume you don't have anything dangly in the car
  17. Just a thought... Volumetric alarms can sometimes detect a dangly in the car. For example an air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror.
  18. For work of this nature I wouldn't be concerned with a Jaguar independent Phil. My garage is just a one man operation based in the middle of nowhere. But I'd trust him to either do a spot on job or to decline, telling me that it requires Jaguar specific tools etc. He has looked after all my cars for the last 20 years for general maintenance and servicing requirements.
  19. The last time I saw this, the car was sensing an intermittent voltage drop caused by the Webasto. Not that you have a Webasto of course but the principal is one worth exploring I'd think?
  20. That's the sort of price I'd expect from a dealer Phil. As a matter of interest, a colleague of mine (the chap whose car convinced me to buy an S Type) had his alternator changed recently. He bought the alternator as a reconditioned unit and paid the same garage that I use £25 in cash to do the work. Although the mechanic did moan like a Pyard afterwards His car is a diesel like mine but I shouldn't think there would be much difference for a petrol engined car.

    MPG

My indicated fuel consumption hovers around the 26 MPG mark and I always fill the tank to the brim at the same filling station. My own brim-to-brim calculations are within 0.1 MPG of those indicated so it seems reasonably accurate. My drive to work, of some 10 miles, is normally the longest journey I do and as the engine is so big, it never gets fully up to temperature so 26 MPG isn't unreasonable I feel.
  22. At least you have the D2B loom in place
