  1. H John, Welcome to the club :) I'm guessing yours is an automatic? I thought my consumption was poor at 30ish but that's with ten mile journeys to work. I expect if to be noticeably better on a longer run where the engine will have had time to warm up properly. I am about to try Peter's suggestion of Wynn's EGR cleaner to see if that has any effect. My car has done 131k miles.
  2. There are several instances of fitting an after-market head unit Eric. It isn't a difficult task and modern units will do all you need. You could, of course, fit an OEM CDC and the Audio Connection Module to integrate iPod, USB ect. into the OEM system but the ACM is so expensive that you'd be able to get a reasonably decent head unit for less.
  3. About the only thing on your car that is
  4. The motor drive has a torque sensor Phil. It detects the change in voltage demand from the motor depending upon how much force is required to move the window glass. That's why the window will sometimes stop and reverse when there isn't anything in the way, if the window track is obstructed or the flexibility of the runner lining is reduced say, during cold weather, PLEASE, don't test with your fingers. I'd use a piece of plastic or wood... just in case.
  5. Once the anti trap detects a certain pressure Phil.
  6. CDC very easy to retro-fit Kim. Plenty on fleabay. Let me know if you want any help
  7. Some people have all the luck Welcome to the club Kim.
  8. Sorry for the somewhat abbreviated post yesterday Kim, but I was using my phone and the size of my finger tips is such that typed communication is a bit of a hit and miss affair. :) The Jaguar implementation of iPod audio integration is called the Audio Connectivity Module (ACM), and fits in the centre console cubby hole on the S Type (and X Type as well). It requires the CD changer (CDC) to be fitted and functioning before it will work. Once fitted it provides an integrated link with all the other D2B networked items, ie. Jaguar Voice, Bluetooth Phone, Sat-Nav, audio, Touchscreen etc. You can connect an iPod or a USB stick or an audio item which uses standard phono type connectors. It provides reliable, if somewhat rudimentary control of the iPod from the touchscreen but the latest version of the firmware also allows for control of the iPod directly, even when connected to the ACM. Although it uses the CDC link to the system, the CDC is still available if required. It costs an arm and a leg but, in my view, there isn't yet a viable alternative. I've tried the FM link devices but have never been satisfied with the sound quality. Also, for me, the tight integration with the rest of the Jaguar system makes it worth considering. Very easy to fit. Takes about 30 minutes, depending on how easy you find it to thread three wires through the centre console to the back of the head unit :) I hope that puts a little meat on the bare bones of my previous post :)
  9. So what are you going to do to secure the battery Phil?
  10. Well, I thought it was quite amusing:- I called in at my local Halfords superstore this afternoon and asked an assistant where they kept their riveters. A look of blank incomprehension made its glacial way across the spotty youth's visage and I pressed my point thusly:- "So you haven't got any riveters?" "No sir" then with a certain tolerant disdain for the clearly aged dementia sufferer in front of him:- "This is HALFORDS?" (I detest it when people terminate every statement with a rising tone interrogative) "We have bits for cars and bikes... and we also have choonz" (I believe that's what he said) "oh, and we also sell tools" Like I said - I thought it was amusing :)
  11. Thanks Peter. Same manufacturer?
  12. Thank you Peter, I didn't realise it was as simple as that :)Ordered two cans of Wynn's from a trader on fleabay at £5.99 each with free postage. A little preventative, or pre-emptive, maintenance never went amiss :)
  13. Peter, How exactly do you remove the air filter on our engines please?
  14. I've just been out and had a look at mine. Perhaps you could use a pair of mole-grips slightly lower down the shank of the bolt to get more torque and hopefully less twisting?
  15. Setting the anti-trap, if required Phil consists of closing each window in turn and holding the button in the close position for about 2 seconds once fully closed. Once you get your bolt out, a little smear of copper grease will assist in preventing corrosion should you need to remove it again.
  16. One concern with a different profile Russ, is that the rolling diameter would be different with the concomitant effect on the accuracy of your speedometer.
  17. Further to my last, a little bit of research suggests that the driver's door harness doesn't differentiate between memory and non-memory so I'd be reasonably confident that there would be no wiring to complete. In addition, I can't find any reference to the DDM (driver's door module) being a different part number for memory or non-memory. Based on that, I'd have to conclude that retro-fitting memory seats would be a reasonably simple task :) That is to say, "doable". Before investing though, I'd need to do more in depth research.
  18. I just managed to have a close look at one off the car and it is a single moulding although it looks like it might be two separate-able pieces when viewed normally. Never mind though, SWMBO has just admitted today that she can't, in fact, see any difference in the daylight
  19. I have always had a lot of time for Nexen tyres. Subjectively (of course) they have always provided me with sufficient longevity, dry grip and wet grip, and relative quietness. I imagine some will be a bit concerned at anything less than a premium Goodyear, or Michelin etc, but I speak as I find, and I'm totally confident to transport SWMBO, grandchildren etc. I have been known to drive... erm... enthusiastically on occasion and the Nexen's seemed more than capable. I put Nexen N8000 all round on my S Type as soon as I got it and I'm thoroughly satisfied so far. Same size as yours btw. Mine were fitted by a mobile tyre fitting service and cost £350 all in. The last Nexen tyres I had were on my Rover 75 and had done 28 000 miles when I sold her with many more miles left in them.
  20. I already had memory seats Russ. In fact they are still with the chap who sold me my new ones. They are 10 / 8way not heated in ivory leather. There is actually a full set of 16 way heated seats and door cards on fleabay at the moment for £200 including delivery I think.. My seat upgrade was done as a plug and play swap with just one tine modification to the underseat wiring on the driver's seat. I'm not sure whether the wiring is already in place in your car for memory seats although I suspect it would be. In addition you'd need the driver's door switch pack and, IIRC the driver's door module, although your present door module might be sufficient.
  21. The door appears double-locked. Does the same happen on all the other doors? How about if you push the centre console unlocking switch - just to unlock. Do you have speed locking? Does the door open from the outside?
  22. I know what you mean Charles. SWMBO is very good at that sort of thing :(
  23. Mine needed replacing on my S Type Bill. Front bumper off to access the washer bottle then the pump is a simple swap over. Suggest use a generic pump rather than buying from a dealer. Price difference when I investigated was a factor of ten.
  24. SWMBO reckons she can see the difference between my original door panels and the retro-fitted seats Andy. She's the only one who can though. The door cards which go with the seats are still available but the coloured part at the top of the front door trims doesn't match my dash.
