hi usually valve stem seals, did you use genuine jaguar ones, some after market ones are really poor quality could also be the crankcase pcv, it controls the pressure in the crankcase, they stick as they get old and cause the pressure to rise in the engine case and cause oil to be pushed past the piston ring and smoke its on the left side of the engine and is like a round disc this is a common problem on higher miles cars cheers Joe

2004 S-Type 2.7D when attempting to start, nothing happens.
JOE-DOT-COM replied to plaviator's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi These are common and usually caused by a low battery have you checked the battery voltage, should be above 12.5 volts, if the voltage is lower than this battery may need replacing also sometimes these faults caused by a low battery will need reseting with jaguar IDS/SDD before they will clear Ideally you need to get it plugged in to see what faults are listed, generic code readers will only read and clear engine codes, not gearbox, dsc or epb faults, I'd check battery voltage and make sure it does not drop rapidly, you have to wait 40 mins before the car sleeps and the current drop to about 30mA also diesels seem put strain on alternators and these can fail, causeing a short, making the battery voltage drop quick cheers Joe -

hi If it like the S-types, just basic tools a piston wind back tool might help, but when I did mine, they wound in real easy with circlip pliers also worth checking the old pads as you remove them, some pads have a peg on the rear, some only on the inner two that locate on the inner piston slots also if it electronic parking brake, it needs to be reset before you operate the park brake or you could damage it, on the s-type you have to disconnect the battery and once reconnected you follow instructions on the dash when first switching the ignition on there usually little clips on the of the threaded studs as well that hold the disc back, these have to be unscrewed to remove the the discs, but a lot of people just force the discs off with a mallet, so there maybe none there nearly forgot to mention to release the park brake, press the hand brake off button and hold it while you switch the ignition off and remove the keys, this will release the park brake so you can remove the pads cheers Joe

Spongy brakes arfter changing reverse into drive. dri
JOE-DOT-COM replied to David dparks's topic in Jaguar XF Club
Hi Sounds like master cylinder starting to fail if there's no air in the system, nothing else can cause the brake pedal to go lower than normal would get it checked and get the brakes bled first as air can do this cheers Joe -
