hi Paul what type of car was it cheers joe
-
hi Same here I'd shop around, try some of the online shops like moneysupermarket, go compare, confused, compare the market, these will give a good idea of insurance also I tried Footman James, as I'm also a member of JDC, they gave me a great discount and were cheaper than all the above and there was only £50 excess also sometimes its worth putting your spouse on the policy as well, as it can bring the premium down, with the online ones you can try it both ways to see which is best cheers Joe

Reduced Performance mode triggered under hard acceleration
JOE-DOT-COM replied to DaftMule's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
hi only way to know for sure is to plug in and read the codes could be one of many things, but it sounds like a faulty sensor seen something as simple as a faulty ABS sensor cause this type of fault don't think its engine related as usually you have to switch engine off for those to clear cheers Joe -

Gaskets when changing V6 2.7 ltr belts?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to barrybristle's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi have a look on SNG BARATT site or British car parts SNG site is good and its got all the part listed cheers Joe -
Hi I did mine a couple of years ago new headlights are £813 each to remove the headlight you have to drop the front bumper, which come off reasonably easy I removed the bumper and removed both headlights, split them replaced all the adjuster for new type one's that dont break, cleaned them out, swapped the hid bulbs for 8k ones, much brighter, also polished the lenses, so they came up like new# took about 4 hours from start to finish, but well worth it cheers Joe
-
Hi May be worth doing a oil change first if the oil is too thick, it can cause the noise you described and it causes a delay in oil pressure to the vvt cheers Joe
-
Hi This is a common problem on the S-types, At a guess the headlight adjusters have broke inside the headlight are some plastic adjusters that snap, they can be replaced there's 2 options 1 the best one really is order the adjusters off ebay , remove the light and split it and replace the adjusters 2 there a screw fix method, its a bit heath robinson, but does the job also worth remember on these lights, if you unplug them with the battery connected, the self leveling will stop working and can only be reset with jaguar software to tell if your adjusters have broke, remove the bulb cover of the rear of the light for the high beam, hold the bulb connector and gently push and pull, if the lamp moves and fell loose, the adjuster has broke cheers Joe adjuster look like this https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jaguar-S-type-S-type-NORMAL-XENON-headlamp-headlight-repair-kit-adjuster-2-SETS/281175787162?_trkparms=pageci%3A62ecc327-29f5-11e8-b39c-74dbd1800491|parentrq%3A348377461620ab12391972f4fffc0415|iid%3A1&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236 the quick screw fix

hi try SNG BARRATT for you coil packs they offer genuine ones and after market ones and are good value https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/English/FindParts/Families/S-Type and X-Type/12 cheers Joe
-
Hi Only way to tell is with a multimeter, start the car and the battery voltage should be above 14 Volts get the light to come on and check again, if it drops below 12.5 volts, then its not charging enough also check the belt, a slipping belt could also cause the same symptoms cheers Joe

Hi Ted VVT are known to rattle as they wear and can only be fixed by replacing would not say its timing chain with that mileage, 4.2's all have updated tensioners and are not known to fail, also timing chains tend to get louder the hotter they get. to tell if you have VVT look at the front of the cam covers, if there a wires coming from it, it has VVT, if no wires, no VVT VVT offers no performance upgrade on these, it was fitted solely for emissions pics below also check yours sills, they can rot terrible and are hidden by those plastic covers also make sure it has the correct oil, as wrong oil will effect the VVT on start up, as they work on oil pressure cheers Joe THIS ONE HAS VVT NO VVT
-
hi keep an eye on oil level, especially if it goes up, could be a leaky injector its also worth checking the sills, there hidden by a plastic cover and there prone to rotting cheers Joe

Boot not opening
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Stuart XF's topic in Jaguar Audio / Video / Electronics / Security Systems
hi seen this before might be same fault its known to break wires, on the boot hinges, where they bend, every time you open and close the boot if you can get in the boot by folding the back seats wriggle the wires to the boot near the pivot point also not sure on the xf but the s-type had a emergency key boot opener, on the under side of the boot handle, maybe the xf has similar cheers Joe -
hi bosch batteries have allways served me well in the past the one on my mitsubishi has been on over 10 years, but with the help of a CTEK charger, has always performed excellent My Jaguar has a Jaguar battery at the moment and that seems to perform well, but if I were to replace it now, I'd go for a AGM battery, far better battery mega store have some great deals on usually cheers Joe

Steel subframe protection
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Carole Simpson-Hadley's topic in XK / XKR (X150) 2006 - 2014
hi you want some thing like a waxoyl or cavity wax, if you use waxoyl, make sure you dont put it on too thick, when its thick it goes hard and cracks, water gets behind it and makes things worse cavity wax goes on really thin and stays soft but if it were mine I'd take it too " KROWN RUST TREATMENT ", superb job and its guaranteed they really do a great job, worth every penny and protect your car for the future I know quite a few people that have had the alloy xj's and xjr's done, alluminium bodies can rot faster than steel and where steel bolts to ally, they corrode faster as you get a reaction cheers Joe http://krown.co.uk/uk/krown_application/Rust_treatment_process https://www.facebook.com/krownuk/ -
hi is the the older 4 button remote if so have a look below cheers joe
-
hi think the oe ones came with just the large pin its not a problem the little pins on the ones on ebay can be snapped off easy, they only chromed diecast there's also double sided sticky take on them as well a lot of people use that method as they can revert back to the bonnet badge if they wanted cheers Joe
-
hi Most makes of diagnostics tools only read engine fault codes and even then only give generic codes, so are not allways correct or accurate there's lots of modules on the s-type, and the only one that reads all of them and gives accurate fault codes is the jaguar IDS/SDD software there's lots of jaguar independent dealers that have this as well, so you dont need all ways to go to a main dealer could be one of many things like faulty module in boot, faulty EPB they go stiff from lack of lube, hand brake cables, especially this time of year, the little rubber boots perish each end of the cables, they fill with water and damp and freeze and caliper mech can seize and go stiff plugging with jaguar IDS/SDD will give you a exact fault cheers Joe also have a look here this can help you release the epb and get you going

jaguar s type r v8 supercharged 4.2
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Gareth livesley's topic in New Members Introductions
hi you can retro fit the bluetooth adapter at the moment you have a phone module in the boot and the handset fitted to the armrest connector, theres 2 options, if you have the handset fitted now A fit the later combined phone/bluetooth module in the boot, along with the bluetooth antenna and fit a mic into the overhead console or B fit a earlier type bluetooth module in the armrest and fit a mic in the overhead console, But, There's allways a but, this method means you need to swap some wires around in the phone module connector and some wires in the armrest connector, this is because your armrest connector is wired for handset, not bluetooth, is quite easy, if you want to go option B let me know and I can give you wiring diagram on where the wires have to be also if you have jaguar voice fitted, you allready have a mic fitted to the overhead console, but recommend fitting the later type mic that is mounted between the console and sun visor, there far superior in sound quality cheers Joe
