  1. hi dual mass flywheels were added for one purpose, the make the engine feel smoother basically its a cushion added in the flywheel to remove vibration from diesel engine some are mechanical springs, some rubber and a combination of the two, as they get older, they fail and cause the outer part of the flywheel to come loose, vibrate and move when the clutch is pressed gong to a solid one is by far the best option there no performance loss, but you may feel more vibration when changing gear cheers Joe
  2. hi The one I bought from British diagnostics came with the software that's runs on VMWare, which you install vmware and then loads a image, its a virtual machine, it works OK but its no where near as stable as running on a windows XP pro machine, if I'm setting anything up, I use my dedicated windows XP pro laptop, if I'm just reading and resetting code the either OK cheers Joe
  3. hi no HV pylons near you when it happens, some pylons with heavy load can cause large amounts of interference, could be a possibility its got to be interference of some kind cheers Joe
  4. hi not sure too much on the sv8, but the engine similar to the STR, engine are very strong in standard form, the str engine has a valley pipe/hose in the V, under the supercharger, thats prone to failing due to heat, about £14 for the hose, but the killer is the labour about £600 to £800 timing chains should be quiet and listen at the front of each of the head, as later cars had variable timing, which could wear and leak and some made a strange noise supercharger coupling can also fail on well used engine, sounds like a tapping noise, from supercharger snout area auto gearboxes are generally good, but require servicing at approx 10 years or 60k should drive nice and smooth, there similar suspension setup to the s-type, lots of bushes and driven hard, can cause them to wear check everything works, electrics are expensive, check the aircon, can be also expensive to fix if not working have a look on vehicle smart app at the cars mot history, it will give you a good idea of the car condition cheers Joe
  5. hi faulty abs sensor usually trigger limp mode and transmission faults, as the auto's heavily rely on the sensors if you have the engine light on, your code reader should read it have you tried putting your dash in diagnostic mode should give you the fault codes there, dash diagnostic mode http://www.bluejag.co.uk/S-Type Instrument-cluster-diagnostics.php you can also bring fault codes up on the touch screen as well, but not sure if abs ones come up on there, as ive never seen any on mine cheers Joe
  6. hi have a look here cheers Joe Bluetooth In-Car Telephone.pdf
  7. HI All modern smart charger are ok to charge the battery with it still connected I use a Jaguar CTEK charger and these can be put on and left on long term mine has a special socket in the boot for plugging the charger in, without the need to expose the battery the only thing I would recommend is most of the jaguar batteries have a vent tube from the battery to somewhere out side the car, so no buildup of gases, hydrogen in the case of most batteries, so when disconnecting the battery charger, make sure you switch it off at the mains first, as not doing this can create sparks on the clips and if there any build up of charging gases, it can't do any damage cheers Joe
  8. hi if you look on ebay, there on there all the time much better than a fix and go kit dont know how deep the tyre well is on the XF, but I swapped my space saver for a full size alloy, which I prefer cheers Joe
  9. hi usually theres a strip along the top of the light that leaks cheers Joe
  10. Hi As above check wheel balance and tyres you could swap front wheels with the rear wheels and see if it moves to the back cheers Joe
  11. hi £216 for a brand new one from british car parts £263 for genuine SNG Baratt cheers Joe what up with yours, the epb does not fail that often, its usually other things like cables, calipers or module
  12. hi bluetooth was a option, if they did not opt for touch screen, then they would most probably not be bothered with bluetooth below is for non touch screen cars cheers Joe
  13. hi the answer yes, but not very easy a 2.5 could be fitted instead of a 3.0 but it would need the engine loom changing, the ecu would be different and all the modules would need to be reconfigured for the new engine, so not a easy job as for the engine number, have a look below cheers Joe
  14. hi All the s-types have the button , whether the module is fitted or not if you search for devices in bluetooth on your phone, with the cars ignition on, if "Jaguar" comes up, then its got bluetooth, if nothing comes up then its not fitted the book for in car telephone were generally earlier cars with a handset in the armrest, later cars did not have the handset but had bluetooth, as a option not standard cheers Joe Bluetooth In-Car Telephone.pdf
  15. hi Id go with the recommended one, there only 22mm in length difference in the two, which is really nothing cheers Joe
  16. hi the only other way is to plug in with jaguar diagnostic software which would show up a fault cheers Joe
  17. HI A plug in with diagnostic software will show if there any faults but a faulty lambda sensor will throw the emissions out, theres usually 2 lambdas, a fault code will tell you which one it is cheers Joe
  18. Hi Usually caused by a low battery, put it on charge overnight should cure it Cheers Joe
  19. hi the only cure usually is to disconnect the battery, which should reset everything that would be the first thing I would try cheers Joe
  20. hi if your car has self leveling lights, then it already has hid lights the self leveling was fitted to cars with hid lights and yes your right if your car has self leveling lights, if you unplug the headlight with the battery connected, the self leveling will stop working and can only be reset with jaguar software IDS/SDD also any bulb or light fitted with a color over 4200k is illegal, if you get a awkward copper, but most mot station will pass anything, hid to be 100% legal should be self leveling and have headlight washer fitted, but I've fitted loads to cars and never had any issues, with mot's or police https://www.powerbulbs.com/blog/2013/09/are-blue-car-bulbs-legal personally I prefer the HID's, but every one has there own preference , I don't think the LED's have the reliability yet, the led are fine, the power supply part is the weak link, also high power led's generate quite a bit of heat, if there not cooled, they fail, so that means either large daft heat sinks or tapes or fans are fitted on the back, you cant usually put the rear cover/grommet back on to seal the headlight either, so means your headlight is open to the elements, which end up get dirt inside and condensation cheers Joe
  21. Hi When I had my STR, it had a drain, not as bad as yours though mine ended been a jaguar tracker, hidden in the boot, must of come with the car from new but there was no reference to it in the paperwork I had, I just removed it and it cured my problem, it had a backup battery attached to it, that had gone duff due to age, causing excessive drain on the battery cheers Joe
  22. hi never done any thing on the E-type my self, but have seen on other forums most people seem to take the whole sub frame suspension out, as its suppose to be quicker also seen a lot of people who alter the pipes, to the caliper, so a remote bleed nipple can be added on the cradle, so its easy accessible, the original bleed nipples are in a awkward place cheers Joe
  23. hi you can remove them and blank them, but you get no benefits also you have to leave the egr there and plugged in, otherwise you get lots of engine management faults best option is to get them cleaned and leave them there as there usually not much trouble, if you get lots of trouble with them its usually other issues like, burning engine oil, will coke them up and give problems cheers Joe
  24. hi have a look at the battery reset, right at the top, tells you how to get the stereo back on without a code cheers Joe Battery reset.pdf
  25. hi these guys do a rubber strip for it http://www.car-hood.co.uk/rubber-boot-luggage-runner-strip cheers Joe
