  1. not sure what turbo you have? as the diesel has a actuator ! one is mechanical and the other is a square box which has electric circuit board and cogs inside. you can search in xtype forum, which is where there is loads of help on this issue. plus there is also a picture of how each one looks when you search in the forums,
  2. glad to read that you've placed a deposit on a 2003 x type, but with a mileage of 37000 ? that don't seem right ! more like 137000 miles. make sure everything works as for its age things start to wear with age and need some TLC .... mine is a 2004 x type and I still do work on her to keep it in best condition as possible. good luck with your new purchase and enjoy .....dave.
  3. here is a few pictures of a motherboard with four tactile buttons. (old mobile phone) which you can replace your old buttons on your key fob. the yellow lines point out the four contact pins which you heat up with a soldering iron one by one, the green lines is where you place a very fine sewing needle and lift up when heating up each pin. ( the blue line is the button.) no solder is needed as you use the existing solder when heating up the four contact pins. you can also buy these tactile buttons from MAPLIN stores, if you need too. my key fob now works like new ....good job done
  4. looking at the pictures, ? you can see a plastic screw cap which sits on the top that has white corrosion all round the top edge. (on the expansion bottle) this may be the problem ?! but not sure... would have to be checked when up to pressure. first I would clean it all round the edge and see if the white corrosion starts to come back as it may have a leak.? its something that you can try ? ? ?
  5. with a 4yr no claim discount, " ESURE" with who I'm with on a fully comprehensive cover, came out at £170.63 with an excess of £350. so no complaints here for me that's on a 2.0d x type (54 plate)
  6. did the fobs work originally ? and if they did the buttons would have a slight click when pressing them.. but if them buttons don't do this any more they may have worn out, and need replacing? these are known as small tactile buttons, in the picture two at top then two at bottom. (right hand side of this picture) two buttons on the left picture. two at the bottom removed to replace my worn out ones.
  7. yes, ive just watched it too. but don't believe everything you see ? to do a car like this it would take a team of very skilled men/women to complete this.....even working day and night 24/7. so plan what car shall we rebuild! then assess by looking at the car before the show goes out! order parts/materials etc. then lets make a (car sos program. ) to me that seems more realistic.......so that's my thoughts people....any body else with there thoughts.

  11. as for your limp mode? look to see what kind of turbo actuator you have? if its one like this the mechanism inside fails and stops working...which then puts the car into limp mode but may also give a glowplug warning light too. so you need to buy a new one and fit .. easy to do job. cost of actuators vary around from £75 to £100.... right if it is this one check to make sure that the actuator arm moves from the unit to the turbo unit? if not then this is definitely the actuator unit that has broke and needs replacing with a new unit.
  12. you do not have to depressurise the fuel system, there is a screw underneath so you can drain the diesel out first from the filter if need be? but make sure you have a container and some rags handy, plus rubber gloves as diesel spillage for when you remove the clips.! take a photo or draw a diagram so you know where the clips go for when you place them back on the new filter.( in the right order) then turn the car over until it starts... may take a while for the diesel to get through so do be patient.
  13. i would first check for diesel/fuel at the injectors, plus correct pressure too. change fuel filter, check all air sensors, along with air filter, EGR valve cleaned and check for correct operation under vacuum pressure. then connect up to ECU (electronic control unit) which after all of the checks done above should give you a closer pinpoint of any other problems if any? good luck ..... dave

  15. i can now say that both of the discs and calipers plus wheels are now fitted on the front, and did a road test for braking ... good but still need to bed in as I only went round our block, no noise yet? but not done any heavy braking and hope not too. but when all front brakes bedded in, i will try and do one when the roads are quiet and safe to do so.....! To see and feel how they react! but at the moment I'm a happy old gent with a big smile :-) hope that answers your question joe....regards dave.
