I live in Sutton Coldfield,Chris, but I know Skelton as my sister lived there  for a few years before going to live on the moors near Whitby.

I used to do a lot of work in Redcar at the steelworks.

As you can probably deduce from my user name, I'm not a Smoggy by birth! I move down here about a year ago, and love it. Having the N.York Moors on my doorstep is great, especially when I'm sat in my Boxster ;)

Well, posting the list didn't last...
we're in Ramsey in the north of the Isle of Man - the road racing capital of the World (apparently), although I'm originally from Burnley, Lancs (I think that's two firsts for the club :)).

Peter,

Why are the vikings please? I get flummoxed with these new fangled names they call themselves these days, even the union side I follow Newport , are called Newport Dragons, or something like that (it hasn't improved them though.

Trevor,

About 1995 when Murdoch/Sky pumped a lot of money into Rugby League and determined the league format, he determined that the teams should adopt the Australian nomenclature, but it wasn't de rigeur, and some clubs refused, such a Hull FC, St Helens, and Hull Kingston Rovers.

It is believed that the Vikings came up the River Trent, got a whiff of the chemicals in Lancashire and legged it over the Pennines to Widnes.

There is some validity in the Vikings name for the Club.  I have never seen a Rhino in Leeds, though, a Wolf In Warrington, or a Giant in Huddersfield.

Regards,

Peter.

Peter,

This is all such a shame, I was brought up on Union, and my father took me as a young child to see Newport at Rodney Parade, and Wales at the Arms park ( I should be Welsh really, it was only by fluke I happened to be born in Liverpool ).

I went on to play Union for Weybridge in Surrey (University Vandals in those days) .

But one of the best days out was going to watch various rugby league finals at Wembley , I haven't any particular allegiance to any club, so usually went for the underdog .

On another note, try this to get rid of your "Service Required " warning notice:

  1. NOTE: Steps 2 to 5 must be completedwithin 3 seconds for successful service mode resetting.

    • NOTE: Ignition key in the OFF position.

Press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

    2. Continue to hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

    3. Release the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

    4. Press and hold down the trip computer TRIP button located on the left-hand steering column multifunction switch.

    5. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP button and press and hold down the trip computer CLEAR/RESET button.

    6. Continue to hold down the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons,RESETTING SERVICE MODE will display in the information and message centre if steps 2 to 5 are completed successfully.

    7. After 10 seconds the information and message centre will then display SERVICE MODE RESET once the process is complete.

    8. NOTE: If the information and message centre does NOT display SERVICE MODE RESET, steps 1 to 8 must be repeated.

Release the trip computer TRIP and CLEAR/RESET buttons and turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

Especially when they call themselves Newport Gwent Dragons when Newport as far as I remember was always in Monmouthshire

I will try that tomorrow, Trevor.

I have quite nimble fingers as I played First Oboe in an Orchestra [quite a good one, too] for 6 years, till the person who owned the instrument wanted in back! Too skint to spend 6 months wages on a new one.
