  1. Rob, Click on Title and you will be taken to the post. John
  2. Rob I misunderstood your posting, thinking you were looking for a battery charger/conditioner for the new battery, knowing that the S Type drained a battery somewhat. Not certain of the actual swop procedure, so would not advise. Someone else on this Forum will certainly be willing and able to give you that advice. There is a very definitive document on this Forum on how to Reset a Battery if you loose the codes . I have tried three times to attach it to this message and always lose it. I will put it on a separate post. There is a mass of information online regarding the CTEK equipment. It comes complete with instructions and all fittings that are needed to set it up for your car. Best Wishes , John
  3. Robert In my opinion, I would suggest that probably one of best you could purchase is a CTEK 7. Could be I am bias as I use one, but you will find it is well supported by many members of this Forum. Regards and Best Wishes, John
  4. What sort of life expectancy do the manufacturers quote for these lights? Regards, John
  5. Martin I feel your mechanic is going to struggle to see if the CAT is, as you put it "blocked", without removing it, which is not a simple five minute job. He may however be able to hear, by tapping it heavily with his fist, if there is any debris in there. If it were "blocked", I somehow doubt that the car would run very well, if at all, if it was "blocked." Just to remind you, my car was running extremely well and had no signs of what is often associated with a knackered CAT. It took me a lot of trial and error to get to the root problem and I now wish I had (with hind sight) changed the CAT in the first place instead of investing time and money in trying other parts first kin the hope of saving some money. This I did not achieve. It is easy with hind sight, is it not ???????? I have attached a link to where I bought my new CAT and for information it was £170 , you may also need to acquire a fitting kit which will cost around £12. The supplier of the CAT that I bought does not sell fitting kits but there are plenty on Ebay. With both the CAT and the fitting kit be warned that there are two different ones fitted to 2005 cars. You will need to have established which your car has and it is best to provide your chosen supplier with the VIN No. for your car. There are cheaper CAT`s available on Ebay but you will have to be aware of quality and warranty. I was personally not satisfied with answers to questions I posed to the cheaper suppliers. There again though, I am a great believer in, "You only get what you pay for". I am by no means suggesting you should take the same approach and that of course is, rightly so, your decision to make. https://www.onlineautomotive.co.uk/car-parts/Jaguar/S-Type/2.5L/Petrol/Premium/Exhausts/Catalytic-Converters/JAG1036H/1/34# Good luck with correcting your cars problem. 6. I am seeking views/opinions on using Engine Oil Additive's with normal engine oil changes. Have seen the claims of such products as Ametech RESTORE claiming : RESTORE ENGINE POWER RESTORE ENGINE LIFE REDUCE OIL & FUEL CONSUMPTION Do not have any of the above mentioned problems, but am wondering if this (or this type of) product can help in avoiding these problems in later engine life. Many thanks and Best Wishes, John
  7. Clive A CD workshop manual will only cost you a few pounds on Ebay. Do not know of a complete manual for free. Regards, John

  9. Barrie No problem. If I can be of any further help, E.G. Talking you through how to use the code reader etc., then just contact me. Best Wishes and Regards, John
  10. Tony I was in the same place as you at one time. I had a son who would have done the job in no time at all. He was actually a degree qualified race engineer. Unfortunately I lost him four years ago, when he took his own life and left two sons behind. He was twenty eight years of age, I am 72 and nowhere near as agile as I once was. Just to add to the problems my wife died in March of this year. Enough about my demise. Yes, I do care very much about being road legal and RING Xenon 200 are guaranteed as road legal bulbs. No, I do not fancy putting the lamps in the oven at all. In fact I do not fancy doing the job at all. I have wondered about buying a second hand pair of lights but was concerned that I would end up, as you unfortunately did, with another pair that had broken. Thanks for the advice that bumper has to be removed. Best Wishes and Regards, John
  11. Does the bumper have to be removed to fit new adjusters to dipped headlamps and can the new adjusters be fitted with the lamps in situ on the car? Cheers and thanks, John
  12. Joe I very recently rejuvenated the glass on all four headlamps and fortunately they look almost new. I initially thought that this was why dipped beam was not great. The rejuvenation of the glass along with fitting (as per your good recommendation) RING Xenon 200 bulbs has not achieved what I was looking for in respect of dipped beam performance. My latest thought is now that the headlights may need readjusting and then I found out that there is a problem of S Type adjusters failing. I will try and test the high beam light tomorrow in the fashion you have described to confirm if the adjuster/s are broken. I am hoping not because I do not fancy the job of removing the front bumper in order to remove headlamp units to be able to fix them. Have identified a person who will repair these adjusters on both lights for around £90 plus postage. You have to remove the light units and send them to him. He splits the lenses and totally cleans everything as well. I should hope he did for that money. !!!!! Feel as though I am between "a rock and a hard place" at the moment, and not certain how to proceed. I might just leave things as they are at the moment, especially as I do not do that much night driving these days anyway. Thanks once more for the further information. Best Wishes and Regards, John.
  13. Now covered 28 miles and no Yellow Engine Management Light as yet. Usually reappears, after being reset, in between 18-20 miles. Fingers crossed it may be cured/fixed. Beat Wishes, John
