  1. Hi Neal, I would call that a result! Peter.
  2. Hi Adam, My son has an X type without a CD interchanger and for £15.99 I got him a little widget that allows him to play his music. Another club member put me on to this, and my son also says that is brilliant. Bluetooth Transmitter -- Anglink. The reverse sensors are very useful, and am surprised that they were not fitted on your car. I am afraid I don't know anything about the kit on the link. I hope you enjoy your Jaguar. Regards, Peter.
  3. Hi Kev, Your car has only 27,000 miles on the clock, and the ZF gearbox is a pretty good piece of engineering, used in Rolls Royce and many other prestige cars. It is supposed to be sealed for life, and unless you feel that there is a problem with the gearbox I would tend to leave it alone. --- and if you have a warranty, all the better. I had a Rover Sterling 2.5 Litre with the auto gearbox an edit never presented a problem till I sold it after 12 years and 122,000 on the clock --- and I also towed a caravan with without any problem. The minor niggles the dealer must fix for you to be satisfied. Regards, Peter.
  4. Hi John, and Welcome to the Club. The XK8 is a fantastic car --- I see quite a few round here, and I think they are a future classic. I am no expert on retrofitting, but there are a few members who have that expertise and will advise.. Regards, Peter.
  5. Hi Sam, I am afraid I cannot give you any experience of an XJ, although I do know that it is the car used by the Prime Minister and Cabinet ministers in the UK. There is a man round the corner who has seven XJs 4 of them being "stretched" limousines, who I am trying to avoid as the other three are hearses! Regards, Peter.
  6. Hi Glyn, Good idea and any assistance you need is here! Peter.
  7. You might see this near Kendal, Jon. I think the mode of transport has altered a bit! Peter.
  8. Welcome to the club, Ian. I used to tow - for about 20 years - but SWMBO said I was too old to continue. The s type tows well so let us know how you get on. Regards, Peter.
  9. Hi Haydn, I think you ought to keep the idea afloat, but at a later date. It is too good to ditch. Regards, Peter.
  10. A Staffordshire meet might be a very feasible idea. I am only a mile from the border! Peter.
  11. Hi Bill, probably less competition over there. When I was in Ireland last year, both my brake light bulbs failed. In the UK a brake light bulb costs about £3.50 but just around the corner from where we were staying near Galway, there was a Tyre fitting garage. They had bulbs and the tyre fit obligingly fitted then. It would have cost me about £15 over here to have them both fitted- the fitter charged me 5 euros --- I gave him 10 euros! Prices seem to be swings and roundabouts. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Bill, Over here there are umpteen places to get your aircon/climate control regassed with prices between £35 and £50. Keep your fingers crossed. Regards, Peter.
  13. Hi Graham, and welcome to the club. I take it that when you say the "plastic bit" that you mean the grained maple veneer or burr walnut in some cases. We have four tables in our house, one in the dining room, one in the breakfast room and two coffee tables -- all of which are wooden [Ercol] and are between 49 and 33 years old. They are used every day and from toddlers to adults via teenagers. They can easily acquire scratches. Your centre console needs cleaning first, and I recommend mayonnaise, which in my opinion, is the best use for mayonnaise. Dry it off after 30 minutes and then apply a scratch removing polish. I use Pledge Polish and scratch remover which costs around £5 from Sainsburys. If it isn't the wood veneer you now know what mayonnaise should be used for. Regards, Peter.
  14. Hi Kevin, I would like to see that badge as the logo for the JOC. It looks very like a blazer badge. Regards, Peter.
  15. Welcome to the Club, Freddie. I admire your thoughts about a replacement engine using the Lincoln 3.9 litre. The body pan/chassis on which the Jaguar s type is based is from a Lincoln and the S type was part designed in Detroit. A good engineer should be able to assist and advise. Good Luck, Peter.
  16. Hi Andy, I was 77 when I bought my first Jaguar, after a few Rovers. The salesman who I dealt with said I would never drive another make of car. He was right. The Jaguar S Type is a great car. Sharing your experiences are good and as far as electrics and retrofitting goes, Paul is very knowledgeable. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Glyn, It is nice to know the background of your car. I will look out for you next time I am in Branston. We go there quite often - just 30 minutes away and have a walk around the Water Park. My car had two owners before me, one in the West Country and the other in the Cotswolds. Regards, Peter.
  18. Welcome to the Club, Sam. You will be envied by a lot of your neighbours! Just tell them that we make some very good cars over here --- I live quite close to Spitfire Island where the used to make the Spitfire and now where they make Jaguars! Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, Glyn, The S type is a very nice car, and your looks very clean and tidy for an early model. I hope you enjoy both the Club and the Jaguar experience. Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi Phil, I have an idea or two for later in the year, possibly September, as well as Haydn's brilliant idea. Regards, Peter.
  21. Hi Steve, I have hardly ever worked out as such, but I can still fit into my Rugby shorts that I wore the last time I played in 1987. you get older diet become moreimgportant that working out! Regards, Peter.
  22. Hi Steve, Just a quick word. Jaguar advise not to use a spray on the car. A piece of paper along the inner part of the seal will show where water is getting in, and some duct tape by the light seals will give an indication where water is coming in. It works, as I tried that and located exactly where water was coming in. I would never get in an S type boot --- far too shallow, and I am just 5'6" tall and 12 and a half stones in weight. Regards Peter.
  23. Hi Steve, Your assumption is correct. I used warm soapy water to get rid of any accumulated dirt, and then some WD40, which seems to do the job. No problems at all this wet winter. I would also check the spare wheel well [I have a proper care wheel on a matching alloy rim] and see if there is a drain hole that could be blocked as an inch of water not good. I used to have a Ford Escort in which the drivers footwell would fill up with water every time it rained. I drilled a hole to let it drain out and only discovered a month or so later that it was a missing rubber grommet in the wheel arch which allowed water in. Let us know what you find. Regards, Peter.
  24. Hi George, I have an S Type SE 2.7 diesel the same year as yours and agree that it is a great car. The position of the sensor module is a little bit way from where water ingress can occur. It is worth giving the seals round the boot some cleaning as if the car has not been used for some time they could have got less pliable. I had some water ingress and as my car is parked on a slope the water was running down towards the battery.. Just putting some kitchen tissue at the left side of the battery stopped water getting any further and also enable me to see where it came from, which was the left side of the car. It is now completely cured by cleaning the rubber seals. Also look for the cheapest fix on the parking module -- it could be switched off! The battery on a 2007 s type usually lasts about 5 or 6 years and I guess would have been replaced. Mine was replaced in February 2012. You should check that it is the correct battery for the car, as I have come across one on an s type that would have struggled with a Mini. I would not worry about the transmission. The ZF gearbox is a good one, and is indeed used by Rolls Royce, although some members have changed the fluid at 70k miles of so with beneficial effects. But if I have no problems with my gearbox I won't be changing the fluid until I have to. An 07 model is one of the last to be manufactured and all of the smaller issues have been sorted out, and I have not had a problem with my car since I bought it nearly three years ago. Regards Peter.
  25. Hi David and Welcome to the club. I am not an electrical expert, but I am guessing that it is a faulty connection. It should not be the bulbs as a message should come on telling you about a bulb failure. A member might have a wiring diagram which could be useful if you can follow one --- there are some members who are very good at electrics who will assist. Regards, Peter.
