  1. Welcome to the club, Roger. I am not an electrical expert, but I do think that it could be a bad earth -- common problem. I used to tow a caravan with a Rover Sterling [amongst others]. I think the caravan light coming on and staying on leads me to believe that the sensor thinks the caravan is hitched up. If you can locate the sensor you will find the root of the problem. Sometimes I am tempted to get my lump hammer out of the shed and ....... Regards, Peter.
  2. Welcome to the club, David. My s type came with the full CD interchanger do I have no experience of buying and fitting one. Bit there are several members who have done this retrofit without any problems. Regards, Peter.
  3. The club is for Jaguar Owners irrespective of the age of their cars. I suggest you keep such comments to yourself. Peter.
  4. Because some members have older cars it doesn't mean that their cars are fit for the scrapyard.. The reason why their are some classic cars still around is that there are members who take a bit of pride in their cars, however old they are. Peter.
  5. Hi Peter, The double beep is the first beep for locking the car and the second beep is for putting on the alarm The key fob seems to be set. On my s type I have to double click the key fob. I think there is a bit in the owners manual Regards, Peter.
  6. Welcome to the club, Andy. There is a lot of expertise and experience about in the Club. Hope your XJ gets through its MOT. Regards, Peter,
  7. Hi Paul, We had a nice day yesterday meandering round the Cotswolds, and got back to see Diesel down to 113.9 as against Petrol at 115.9! The manufacturers are now apparently fitting egr valves to petrol cars! Personally I don't see a great deal of use for them although they must collect some soot particles --- which probably could have been collected by the DPF. Glad you have got the air filter cover off. I wonder what it was sticking. Regards Peter.
  8. Please explain?
  9. Hi Paul, I had heard that the S Type has a system that does not allow a full blanking of the egr valves, -- due to the electrical operation -- but will allow a partial blanking of them. I am undecided, Regards, Peter.
  10. I think so too, Paul. I have always said that the West Midlands is half way to everywhere, Regards, Peter.
  11. Hi Stanley, The West Midlands Meet will be on the 19th September at Gaydon, near Coventry. Look forward to seeing you. Regards, Peter.
  12. Hi Dus, There is an auto locksmith, a mobile service, based in Birmingham. They are vehicle key programming specialists. www.24hrkeyassist.co.uk 0121 288 1031, Worth trying. Peter.
  13. Hi Dus, The Fuse is F2 --- 30 A. You can download an owners manual free from the internet. Peter.
  14. Hope you are OK by then, Tom. It will be a good day out. Peter.
  15. Hi Russ, Some 12 months ago there was a person who joined the club and proceeded to criticise both the club and its members and also tried to recruit for another club. I had to suggest that he should not be doing that. Mods can't really can't take chances!! REgards, Peter
  16. Hi Russ, No enemies in the JOC, We are all enthusiasts insofar as we all like Jaguars. Regards, Peter.
  17. Hi Andrew, and welcome to the Club. I had an x type 2.5AWD on an 05 plate, and it was a pleasure to drive, described by one reviewer as "Nippy " which I don't think was the right word. I found mine quick and a great road holder . I think you will enjoy it, as also I must add that there are quite a few members who have very good knowledge of the x type. Regards, Peter.
  18. Hi Martyn, and welcome to the Club. I have not hard anything about oil coolers failing on the 2.7D engine, although my car [before I bought it] had a new engine fitted at 21840 miles by Jaguar, which could have been an oil pump failure. It was then in the ownership of Grange of Exeter. If you ensure that you use the oil recommended by Jaguar and ensure it is changed every 12k miles there should be no problem. My last long run was to Welwyn and back on the 1st July --- that very hot day -- mostly at 70 mph on the motorway showed no indication of the engine getting overheated. Enjoy your s type -- a great car to drive. Regards, Peter.
  19. Welcome to the Club, John. The XF is a very nice car and well built -- they build very good cars in Birmingham! I hope you enjoy the Jaguar experience, and the club Regards, Peter.
  20. Hi David and welcome to the Club. Seeing an XJ in Red will be unusual --- they all seem to be in Black round here. Enjoy! Regards, Peter.
  21. I didn't like the bloke who was pressurising me to have it done, Kenny. Peter.
  22. I should have been a brickie or a painter. Yesterday I repointed the 10 rows of bricks below the white rendered part of the house. I too me all morning. A bricky would have taken 2 hours. So far this morning I have wire brushed it down and started painting it black. It will take me most of the day. I have probably saved £150 by doing the job myself. Why is it that the expertise I have people expect for nothing? Regards, Peter.
  23. Hi Gary, I forgot to mention the topic "blessing or curse". There are quite a few drivers who prefer the manual gearbox. As I said before, there are no exact statistics that I could find, but certainly there are not many 2.7D with the manual gearbox, as the ZF 6 speed auto box is very suited to the big diesel. I have no problems at all with driving a manual -- my 2.5 AWD petrol X Type had a manual 5 speed gearbox -- but getting a bit older and being used to automatics since I retired, I looked for an s type with an automatic gearbox, and after about three weeks searching I found what I wanted, and never came across an S type diesel with a manual gearbox. There is a market for "stick" driving and I am fairly certain that if your are happy with a manual gearbox, the rarity element will be an asset when selling the car. And one smaller little bit you should need to know is that the second turbo kicks in at 2,000 rpm and if you want to drive quickly a manual gearbox can keep both turbos spinning easier than an auto, and will still let you drive economically. Regards, Peter.
  24. Welcome to the club, Gary. There were about 330k s type made with about half of them exported, mostly to the USA. I don't know exactly how many were made with the manual gearbox, but I would hazard a guess and suggest no more than about 5,000. Regards, Peter.
  25. I would still have that car as it was in prime condition, Phil. The two scroats who car jacked it got 8 years in a place where they could never drive it. It was never recovered and the police thought it went abroad. Peter.
