  1. Hi, welcome. Should be two screws and a plug. Dead easy.
  2. You know as well is I do that bonnet leapers are the way forwards!! The badge in middle looks out of place, the same as the badge on the back of the XF.
  3. Id lose the leaper in the front grille, just looks wrong. Nice car otherwise.
  4. If you can take the hit of selling a car with no/short mot and a known fault then chop it in, your car, your choice !! As a Diesel engine is far less complicated than a petrol engine there's usually not much to go wrong. Usual problems are air getting into fuel system or fuel getting out. When the cars running rough have a good look at the fuel pipes, especially the unions for leaks. The fuel filter would be a good place to start. A diesel leak is far easier to find than an air leak.
  5. Auto dim rear view mirror. If you have a lever on the bottom of your mirror you haven't got it. Two sensors and you have.
  6. I have this feature in my car and, after a years ownership I noticed that when its activated the door mirrors dim too. Neat feature!!
  7. Looking at your avatar it'll be a 5spd 'box.
  8. Sounds like a sticking caliper. You'd have the park brake message flash up if it wasn't recalibrated.
  9. Surely the fuse box will just be bolted to the inner wing.
  10. What you upto now?? Couldn't you run a suitable sized cable from battery??
  11. Not really possible I think. The indicators on the left are "Euro" standard introduced in the early eighties iirc. Anything built outside of Europe, ie Hyundai and such like aren't governed by this. It put me off buying a Hyundai tuscon a few years back because I kept putting the wipers on during the test drive. Somethings you just get used to without realising.
  12. Welcome to the forum. I would punch your "friend" in the face very hard!! It's a hidden menu for a reason and now you have a large, expensive brick in your dashboard. Pop into a dealer and see if they can do anything. Good luck
  13. As above. Steering wheel removal, make sure you have your radio code. Disconnect the battery then go have a brew/lunch for at least 1/2 an hour till the system powers down. There should be two bolts in the back of the wheel holding the airbag on, more then likely torx head screws, undo them and gently pull the bag forward to reveal the wiring plugs, disconnect and lift out. Unplug any other plugs. Undo the large nut in the centre then REPLACE a few turns. Either grip the wheel and pull like Billy o till it comes off or forcefully hit it with the palms of your hands until it releases it limpet like grip and you'll also see why it's important to replace the nut!! Trust me, it hurts!!! Replacement is opposite of above. Tip, before removal draw a line on the threaded column stub as a reference point to help line up the new wheel.
  14. Nice. 2x 5in oval stainless steel back boxes, £600 each!! Bought on eBay after owner deemed them too loud on his V8 got £75!!
  15. Don't tell me, you've retro fitted some switches out of a later XF??
  16. Get your battery checked. Sounds like it's on the way out.
  17. Claws, this is what your aiming for. Double din pictured, single din gives you a little cubby box. Chris j, this is an option.
  18. Do a net search for gearbox software flash.
  19. No, I only used the fiesta faceplate in the mk1, there is a faceplate kit for the facelift car, about £30 from halfrauds. You only remove the lower section under the heater controls. Then you can fit whatever you want.
  20. Din is the standard stereo size fitted to most cars before intergrated radios like the ones fitted to modern cars. Double din is quite literally two din sizes, commonly fitted to Japanese imported cars in the 90's. The satnav unit in the facelift S type is double din. Din and a half is slightly smaller than double din and not very common. Your car can have a faceplate in din or double din.
  21. Think that may be a mk2 facelift faceplate. I rang audio connections who supply halfrauds and was told that there isn't one for the mk1, they actually recommended the fiesta faceplate to fill the gap.
  22. Yes, that's the lead. Removal is as follows. Top left and right corners you'll see two covers along with one at the bottom where the heated seat buttons are/should be. Remove them with a small hook or flat bladed driver. You'll then see 8mm or 10mm bolts, unscrew them then the whole unit, radio, heater controls and cassette drawer comes out. Put your stick into drive to give you room. When you've got the whole unit out you can see what you've got to dismantle to get the radio out. There isn't a single din faceplate available for the early S type!! I fitted a Sony media player in my old car and had to modify the bracket to bolt the unit in and then used a ford fiesta faceplate to fill the gap, not pretty but it worked. Frustratingly the oem stereo is a din and a half not double din. Hope this helps mate.
  23. CHECK YOUR SILLS FOR RUST!!
