Recommendations for some new brake disks & pads please
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Marc B's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
HI They seem quite expensive have a look on british car parts, good price and good parts https://www.britishparts.co.uk/ EBC seem very good, I changed my jaguar pads for EBC red stuff, because you dont get no brake dust of the red stuff, saves me cleaning my wheels every day cheers Joe -
Hi If its all 4 wheels, on the servo, there's a non return valve that allow vacuum in, only if the non return valve has failed,if you car is a turbo diesel, it may allow boost, positive pressure to get trapped in the servo pressure in the servo, will be like pressing the brakes also make sure the brake pedal comes all the way backup, as that can cause the brakes to bind cheers Joe

HI Ive seen a program where they tested various fuels and grades from different fuel stations and when tested them they could not tell the difference they also dyno run the cars and there was only 1 hp difference between the lot though I use bp ultimate in my jaguar, not for performance, but i think its cleaner and helps the fuel system and injectors I just wonder if you dropped on a bad batch of fuel, I know years ago a local tesco to me had a few problems with cars, where there fuel damaged lambda sensors, due to a bad batch of fuel cheers Joe

HI I went today, Its was a great turnout and a good selection of cars there weather turned out great saw your XK there it looked great cheers Joe -
Hi you need to find whether its the front or rear first, if its the rear, its more than likely something your mechanic has done, especially if you hav'nt had any issues prior can't see it been the master cylinder, I've never seen one fail that makes the brakes stick on, they either leak or the seals fail and the pedal goes very low If its the rear brakes that are binding, jack it up and find which side it is I'd check if the adjusters have been set right, if they been set too tight they might seize as they get hot, if there's no enough clearance also if the adjusters are set correct and the hand brake cables are free, Ive seen copper brake pipes crimped incorrect so that they trap the fluid cheers Joe

Hi If it were head gasket, you would be topping it up every few days not months have a look under the car, might have to remove under tray, you should see some staining and follow also check around the radiator, also a posibility, but might be a weeping hose, also check expansion tank, there a common fail on other models cheers Joe

X type 2.5 AWD - 2005 - Engine coolant leak
JOE-DOT-COM replied to iJaguar's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
HI Did'nt think the s-type had enough power to drift, only kidding do you mean the car wanders a bit, could be bushes or something like track rod ends, if you jack it up, you should be able to feel some play in the wheels engine coolant leak, have a good look, you should be able follow the staining and find it, usually a hose, radiator or something like coolant expansion tank, they fail brake are usually very good, if there poor, could be seized calipers, faulty servo or split vacuum pipe to the servo, cheers Joe -
Hi Paul I bet previous owner used the auto mode on the steering column I turn mine off, seems daft every time you get out the column moves out the way and when you get back in the column comes back out must cause them wires to flex a lot glad you sorted it cheers Joe

2004 x-Type Estate Brakes and one More.
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Jagnumpty's topic in Jaguar X-Type Club
Hi Jan I also do all my own work on my cars, especially my Jaguar At least if I do it myself, I know its been done right, Nowadays garages want to do a quick fix, services and plug a tool in and reset it Labour prices on garage work has gone daft, years ago if you engine failed or cambelt went, you took it the garage, they took the engine out and rebuilt it like new, now there not interested and I don't think a lot of mechanics know how, these days cars are been scrapped because the cambelt has snapped and I've seen many sold as spares or repair, just because the clutch has gone keep up the good work cheers Joe -
Hi hard to say this one, looks like you know what your doing but I'd go over all the connections, make sure theres no corrosion on the connectors other thing I would check is make sure theres no breaks in the wiring between the j-gate and the gearbox, as thats where all the movement is you have had it working once, try wriggling the loom to the gearbox, might be just a break the 10v from the body module sounds strange, would of thought it would be 12v I take it its the 6 speed zf 6HP26 cheers Joe

JOE-DOT-COM replied to Colin Ball's topic in Jaguar Owners Lounge
Hi and welcome There no check really, they start to make a noise/rattle as they start to fail When they rattle, they go quiet when you press the clutch Cheers Joe -
Hi Paul I'd check the wiring between the steering column and the air bag module do you use the auto setting on the steering column, could there be a break in the wiring if you have changed the airbag and clock spring, has to be wiring between clock spring and air bag module if you unplug the air bag module and remove clock spring, airbag and test the wiring between the two cheers Joe

hi could this be it, there nothing with 3 set of 9 flashes continuous flashes, could be a bad connection on the front crash sensor I'd plug in your mongoose lead and see what comes up cheers Joe
-
Hi Just looked on autodata and they give a different method of reading the flash code, put it below if you plug in it will give you a B code which will give you more info cheers Joe
-
Hi Paul cant find 9 short flashes, on jtis they start at 12 flashes and up what do you get when you plug sdd in cheers Joe
-
Hi Paul Have you looked in JTIS under fault finding for airbags how many flashes do you get on the airbag light when you switch the ignition on cheers Joe
-
Hi Paul where does that code come up does it give you any more info when you plug in with SDD cheers Joe
-
Hi Get the bushes checked, when they go soft you can get a lot of movement which alter the car geometry at a guess, with you saying it does it under acceleration and deceleration, its going to be a rear, the drive through the rear wheels is causing the wheel to alter and its only going to be one wheel causing it to steer, if both did it, they would cancel each other out, also check the rear tie rods, these do wear and would cause the wheel to steer if there play but I'd get the bushes and ball joints checked uneven tyre wear might also be caused by this as well cheers Joe
-
Hi A bad terminal connection would cause it only way to no for sure is put a multimeter on it and see what current drain is on there, then you can work out how long the battery will last also if you car is going to sit for more than two weeks, I'd get a trickle charger for it, the electronics on these now days will drain a battery over a period of 2 to 3 weeks I bought a Jaguar one, but CTEK make the exact same unit for half the price cheers Joe
