  1. Hi Remanufactured alternators should be good, as it will be a jaguar alternator, just stripped and rebuilt usually bearing and brushes are changed and tested, better companies will offer longer guarantees most jaguars use smart alternators, so they can alter the output, so better economy can be achieved cheers Joe
  2. Hi I'd say the alarm sounder has failed, when the nicads inside them fail, they start to play up, the sensitivity can be adjust with IDS/SDD software you could get a second hand one but, the odds are the batteries/nicads would be on there last legs and you can't be sure it will work anyway and it will need programing they also do a alarm sounder/horn thats not battery backed and you never get any problems with it, but would also need programing with software the active one like yours, the nicads inside only usually last 5 years, so they do really well to last as long as it has usually when the alarm activates as well it flashes a different amount of times on the hazards light when you disarm, to tell you the alarm was activated cheers Joe
  3. Hi Get the battery load tested, but once they go completely flat, there never the same again You need to find the fault first, for a battery to go flat that fast you have some serious load, you need to connect the a ammeter to see what amps are been drawn and start pulling fuses til its gone, but it going flat that fast it could be alternator, its connected directly to the battery and when the rectifiers/diodes fail can cause that fault have a look here for typical battery current drains and time delay BATTCARE.pdf check any after markets addons, like stereo's, alarms etc cheers Joe
  4. Hi As peter said I have a local locksmith that does everthing to do with keys and also does car keys very competitive they can clone you existing key and at a much cheaper option, of a new program key, as no interfacing with the car is required, but they also do new programed keys and new programed remotes as well, all much much cheaper than the dealer I'd phone round a few lock smiths in the area and see whats the best deal you can get, also a lot are mobile now and they come to you its worth getting one, because if you lose the key, then only jaguar, or some one with jaguar IDS/SDD can program new ones its worth googling it in your area cheers Joe
  5. Hi Not too sure about the XJ8's, But start by have a good look in the engine bay Look for any loose connections, hoses that have come off or split hoses, check HT leads are on tight, if it has them Is there plenty of fuel in, or when was the last fuel filter changed, if there's any history with the engine cold, start it up, if you can get to the exhaust manifold are all the down pipe getting hot, have you lost a cylinder if there's nothing obvious then you may need to get it plugged in to see if there are any fault codes logged and you could try disconnecting the battery as it might clear any faults, check you have any stereo codes first cheers Joe
  6. Hi I would go online and get a quote, and with most sites you can add modifications and see what price difference it makes cheers Joe

  13. Hi I'd check the battery, also be tempted to remove it and check the connections, could just be a bad connection also, if you have the code, if it needs one, I would also disconnect the battery and reconnect it, that could also reset it only other proper way would be to plug in and see what fault codes there are cheers Joe
  14. Hi Usually OE ones have a valve some have two, one prevents the oil draining back when the engine stands and the other, if it has it, acts like a bypass, if the filter gets too blocked sometimes the oil lights comes on as it fills the filter, but only one or two seconds on older cars, I use to pull the wire off the ignition coil and crank it till the oil light goes out, then replace the wire and start it, but its not that easy on modern cars you did the right thing as not to run it and change it back Oil filter in one of those things I allways like to use a Genuine Jaguar one. cheers Joe
  15. HI and Welcome Sounds like a low battery, Its the biggest cause of problems on the s-type I charged your battery over night, no need to disconnect the battery, just put it on charge If it cures it, it may be due for a new battery You could check battery voltage and read what fault codes you have, but I'd try charging the battery first, it the most common faults for modules going into fault, switching the ignition off and on should clear it, but it will be back if the battery getting tired and low cheers Joe

  22. Hi Sound like a common elecy window/central locking fault At a guess the wires in the door shuts, have broken, open the the door and wriggle the wires gently, while pressing the window switch, if they start and stop working, odds are some have snapped usually you can unclip the rubber protection boots to expose the wires, some may be visably snapped, if not if you pull on them, some will be stretchy/elastic and break best way is to use wire crimps and crimp them, some people will strip, twist and solder them, which is a better repair/joint, but will leave the wire more prone to snapping, as the soldering leaves the copper cable slightly softer and will snap. cheers Joe
