Engine Carbon Cleaning. Is it worth it?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to GingerPower's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
HI Unfortunately the dirt and carbon takes years to build up and its not easy to remove it quickly The only way is Remove and Clean really using premium fuel and correct engine oil helps, modern cars are designed to burn small amounts of oil, so its important to use correct grade of oil, that a manufacturer recommend, this may help keep a new engine clean, its not going to clean a older dirty engine older carburetor and early injection cars, allowed fuel to flow through the engine on overrun, allowing additives to clean through the whole system, but these days with tighter emissions, no unburnt fuel is allowed past the cylinder and not EGR recirculate burnt gases back into the engine, so where burnt fumes and soot, use to be only found in the exhaust system, there recirculated back into a clean engine to reduce emissions cheers Joe -
HI and Welcome If you after help with your X-type, Just start a topic in the X-type section Post some pics up of your car also, we all like to see the cars on here as well cheers Joe

Engine Carbon Cleaning. Is it worth it?
JOE-DOT-COM replied to GingerPower's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi I've seen these used before and there's clips on youtube of people having it done on their cars But its basically as with Terraclean they use one or more fuel that come in cannisters, that they hook up to a machine, which connects to the cars fuel rail, they pull the fuse for the fuel pumps and you run off the fuel supplied at pressure by the machine So the only contact the fuel has with moving parts is fuel rail, injectors, inlet manifold and inlet valves once it hits the chamber/cylinder its get burnt as usual, so its not going to clean much else, as its gone, the burnt fumes cannot really clean anything else further down the system, like exhaust valves, exhaust manifold, EGR's and Cats. the other thing people say is that they notice a difference in driving, afterwards, the additive/fuel they use, the ones I've seen, come into two cans, each look approx 2 litres in size, now thats approx 4 litres of fuel, for about 20 minutes of work, I reckon the first can they use is suppose to clean things, the second can or even some of the first can, the fuel pressure of the kit/machine can be set to what ever they want, if the fuel pressure is increased to approx 45 to 50 psi, this over comes the fuel pressure regulator, this mean its pushed into the fuel tank, hence if this was a octane booster, you would notice a marked difference in engine performance, hey pressto it must work so has it really been cleaned or have you been tricked. if it was that easy to add a additive to fuel and clean you engine, improve emmisions and increase performance, all fuel companies would do it and boast about it if you look on Youtube for fuel test comparisons, from the most expensive fuel to the cheapest, the most they found was about 1 bhp between all the fuel companies, like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hpZ76nrYW7A Thats what I think, cant see how it can work really cheers Joe Terraclean video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cHXqQywjFY -
Replace engine Earth strap
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Tony In Mevagissey's topic in XK8 / XKR ( X100) 1996 - 2006
Hi As long as you leave the ignition off it should be ok Sometimes they go from the battery to the body and then to the engine, all in one piece, if so you might have to disconnect it any way but if its just body to engine, earth strap it will be fine, just don't attempt to start it cheers Joe -
Hi Can be one of many faults, From having the Abs sensor, wrong oil in it, not enough oil, too much oil can also cause problems you need to plug in and see what faults come up, its the only way on modern cars other wise its just guess work, cheers Joe

Hi They might not be the exact same, but if yo swapped both front you should get away with it the truth will be once there swapped if the car sits the same, dampers should be the same, springs might be different cheers Joe

New Owner 2.7 Sport Locking/Unlocking problem
JOE-DOT-COM replied to Newhouse's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
Hi I'm sure the locking and unlocking is done by the drivers door module Its the drivers door module that receive the remote open and close from the remotes you might have a faulty driver door control module, they can be bought off ebay quite cheap, but will need programing before it will work on your car cheers Joe -
Hi depends what your after really They don't make much difference to car insurance these days and escpecially on a XJ The best out there is really a "Tracker" link to police and guaranteed to be found if stolen, they start at about £300 and then there's annual charge There's also cheaper ones on ebay, for the £50 to £100 range, That offer real time tracking, sound monitoring, safe zone's, recorded message calling and remote imobilising, these tend to use a prepaid sim, that you keep topped up, that will message you if the alarm is activated or moved you can also get jaguar ones, but mot sure what these cover and cost to run, all tracker usually have a annual subscription charge cheers Joe

JOE-DOT-COM replied to GingerPower's topic in Jaguar S-Type Club
HI The only way to know for sure is to plug in and read the fault codes It could be one on many things If you can get the codes then we get more information where the fault lies most generic code readers will read engine fault codes cheers Joe -
Hi If I was picking, I'd go for the 5.0L The 5.0l has the newer gearbox and later spec engine I would say the 5.0l will be more sought after and hold better value I have the 4.2 supercharged unit in my S-type R, Which is a superb engine, but would love to upgrade to the 5L, Just for the extra power and torque cheers Joe

HI You want a long box spanner or the next size down long reach socket use one of the other plugs and find a socket thats just smaller and then knock it onto the damaged plug, it should grip it enough to get it out or even a piece of steel pipe, you want it, just smaller than the plug, then knock it on, if its one of the back ones, you will struggle dont use a socket with the 12 flats, use one with the 6 flats if you can find any thing, get some steel wire 1.5mm to 2.5mm, like a welding rod, bend it into a shape similar to the spark plug, you want it so it slides inside the spark plug socket, so it slots into two opposite corners, then at the bottom of the socket, bend the wire out so it can't slide into the socket you want this wire to take up the slack from the corroded plug and socket, you want it a tight fit, so it knocks on, light taps till it goes on, the tapping will also help free the plug hopefully that should get it out also if the car is still a runner, the plug insulator is not damaged, then I would only try knocking the steel pipe on it or a smaller long reach socket, as any thing else might damage the insulator, leaving the plug faulty and then a non runner cheers Joe sorry for the quick sketch, but it should give you the idea
