I have had my S type nearly a year but owing to illness I have not driven it a lot. Last night we were out in it and I think it is the first time I have driven it using the headlights, and am I disappointed, the lenses are clear but there is not enough light to illuminate road signs,or road markings. I have heard the the X type has lighting issues, has the S type too?  My daily driver is a 20 year old Volvo with really good head-lights.

Probably worth trying some 'uprated' headlamp bulbs ?

Might also be worth getting the headlamp 'aim' checked to make sure the alignment is correct.

Hi Mike,

Join the club, standard lighting on the s type is diabolical. I am looking to change the bulbs, will let you know if I get any improvement.

Cheers Ian

I don't do much night driving, and for what I do I find the headlamps quite adequate.

I do miss the front foglamps, though.  They were discontinued on the 07 model

I soften see an S Type in my locality, and it is noticeable for have its headlight cover completely badly in need of a clean.  The fact that the state of them is noticeable made me have a good look at mine, which although they looked OK, still got a good clean.

It is possibly the headlamp covers that nee attention.

No,the lenses are as clean as a whistle, In normal driving the h/lights are not bad but when out in the sticks there is not enough light to read road signs or to show up road markings. The strange thing is when I put the car in the garage the lights are bright as you like.I tried the trimmers and they seem to work OK . Next step is to check the alignment and the actual candle power ,a friend of mine used to have a gizmo that did that ,lets hope he still has it.

Precisely what I now have in The Princess and no problems at all :)

I replaced all the bulbs with uprated Osram ones and they're great, especially the high beams. I didn't quite sit a Bulb right when I did replace them and I had a dodgy headlight for a couple of months before I figured out what it was like - don't do that 👀
