S Type Alarm / Security sounder

I have a 2007 S Type 2.7 SE Auto.

A few weeks ago I was awakened by a beeping noise outside and eventually realised it was my S Type, although no lights were flashing, neither was the horn sounding. The beeping comes from the drivers side front wing. It can be stopped by unlocking the car with the remote keyfob but once relocked it sounds again within 30 mins. If left beeping, it stops for a short period then begins again. It can be fine for a few weeks, then it starts again. I am informed that this could be the alarm sounder backup.

I have now purchased a new replacement sounder unit and am hoping to tackle the job myself.

Has anyone here changed an alarm sounder unit on their S Type and if so, would they be kind enough to share the procedure?

I was not able to follow this guide up ot the end, because my car is not exactely the same as the one in the guide. What I found and could be the faulty unit is a black box on which it is written : DELPHI 2R83-19G229-C0. Did you find a solution with your problem ? I shall try to just disconnect electrically this box and see what happens. I don't know if I am allowed to do that.

On my car, opening the doors sometimes stops this alarm (loud beeps, no horn), and sometimes not. And sometimes, even disconnecting the main battery does not stop these beeps, which make me think this unit has its own backup battery

I'll post here the following of this problem as soon as I have a solution.

I purchased a DELPHI alarm sounder unit (exactly as you described) and was waiting for an opportune time to tackle the job of replacing the unit.

My undestanding is that the unit starts to beep when the backup battery inside the DELPHI is running low. I've read that they last approximately 6 years.(My S Type is just over 4 years old)

I did see one forum where a guy described taking the DELPHI unit apart and replacing the internal batteries (3 or 4 small round watch type). However, my problem has now stopped. I did nothing to the car, apart from leaving it unlocked whenever I was at home and could keep an eye on it. The problem continued for several weeks, mainly beeping during the night, which was very annoying.

I still have my DELPHI unit incase the problem starts again but for the last 3 weeks it has been fine with no beeping at all. I cannot explain why it started beeping or why it has now stopped.

I have a feeling it will happen again so I am still keen to find a fellow S Type owner/technician who can explain how to change the DELPHI unit. I have heard that they are connected to the car with tamper-proof bolts. (Just to make it a bit more difficult to change as a DIY job)

Thanks for your feedback. My car is 4.5 years old. I have been able to reach the back of the Delphi alarm box, by lifting up the fuse box. Not possible to lift it up completely, as in the guide I mentioned previously, because on my model there is an additional loom that prevents this. I just had enough room to be able to disconnect the cable going to the Delphi box. Very hard to take the plug out of it. Did it with a plier. But you are right, the Delphi box seems to be fixed with a tamper-proof bolt at its lower point. The upper bolt is a normal one.

After disconnecting this Delphi box, I have no beeps any more and everything else seems to be ok, including the main alarm. By the way, I am not sure to fully understand the necessity of this Delphi Alarm. Probably a second level of security if somebody tries to disconnect the main alarm. But lifting the fuse box and cutting the Delphi cables with scissors can be done in less than 3 minutes, so it's not a very secure alarm and I won't take the pain to replace it or investigate further.

I had problem with my alarm going off when I tried to start my car 18 months ago (3.0 petrol 2002 s type). Not quite same problem as yours but a battery check, and replacement sorted fault.

Jag dealer had all sorts of ideas but small local garage fixed and saved me a small fortune.

P.S. these cars seem to need a good battery, no cheap ones!!

I am having the same issues. Could anyone advise how you get access to the fuse panel? I have tried and cannot get to the Delphi Unit. I know I need to get into the fuse box but cannot find anything on the internet to assist/advise how I get the fuse box out.

Hi Robert, It is now some years since I had my alarm sounder problem and it has never happened again.

I am convinced that it was caused by a low battery - not the alarm sounder battery but the car battery. You see, I only use my S Type occasionally and it could sit for weeks on end. Just a thought but it may pay you to check the car battery before embarking on other possible remedies.

There are quite a few small issues that can be caused by a low battery.  Keith is quite right in suggesting you go along the easiest and probably the cheapest route.

Just had the same secondary alarm bleeping problem...had to get up twice in the night and realised the only way to guarantee it stopping was to leave car open.

Read the forum and thought it seems like a bit of a faff......so rang my local Jag specialist and took it straight in for investigation.

He took the drivers side plastic inner wheel arch cover off, disconnected the delphi unit...replaced cover...10mins work and charged me £10

What was I worrying about?????

I wish that dealer was near me   --  10 minutes here costs £69 from a main dealer.

Hi. I need some help, i have 2006  S type, the battery went flat, recharged it full, the nav screen asked for system pin, but the radio code, the screen is ok, but soon as i  drive i get continous alarm type noise, and yellow warning light, goes away when car is stoped, comes back every time the car is moving.

Can anyone Help, please!!

Had problem with my alarm, disconnected by the plug, which was not easy 

and all my problems disappeared.

very common, once the nicads fail in the sounder, you just get nuisance problems with the alarm going off
