Hi all, Wanted to introuduce myself as a first time Jaguar owner. Mostly BMWs but this time round a Jaguar XF seemed the obvious choice. I've attached a picture. Very happy so far (25t r sport with a few extras) but do have a slight niggle I hope others on this forum can help me with. This is my post: Thanks and I look forward to my time on this forum

The XF is going and for my Birthday and start of retirement I had decided to go for something less flamboyant and lower performance as a nice little runaround.... NOT 😉 And here she is:- Deposit paid and due for arrival mid December. She has just about every bell and whistle on board as well 😉 For those who have less than perfect sight, the red text to the left of the "R" badge on the boot lid is:- 5...7...5 🙂

I know that many things here won't apply in SoCal...but the smell of Jaguar is always sweet, even in the midst of troubles. It's not a matter of if you love it. It is a matter of what would you do without it! For me a 1999 XJR about 10 years ago and a one owner 2003 XJR (X308) now. So as owner number two I have to try harder. I have seen the assistance here and hope perhaps I may one day have something to offer also.

Several members of this forum are aware of my present situation and have been asked to keep it to themselves, however, I feel that I should perhaps update anybody who is concerned. We are currently having to deal with the very real possibility that my Wife's breast cancer has returned. In addition, I have just been allowed home following somewhat major surgery. Apologies if these things got in the way of the standard of service some VERY new members appear to expect from me. OTH kindly took the trouble to hint that sometimes people are not available, thanks BTW Frank, but clearly that cut no ice with certain new members whose enthusiasm for the forum as a whole, is clearly evidenced by your singular lack of any input other than to harrangue me. As far as PMs go, one unanswered should have been sufficient. I did not need the follow up. Those who use this forum on a regular basis will be aware that I tend to try assisting where possible as fully as possible and as fast as possible, even as far as hosting people and their cars at my house free of charge and usually with lunch thrown in. I will, of course, endeavour to continue to do so as time and circumstance permit. As to the answer to certain questions of a technical nature? Well, I am still perfectly willing to assist those I can but for some reason I appear to become flustered when pressured / harangued,becoming unable to recall the required detail, unfortunately. However, I am by no means the only forum member with experience of the electronic functions of the S-Type and I fel sure they will be able to assist, approached in a reasonable manner. Please be aware that, although I am, for the moment at least, a moderator on this forum, my comments above are my own personal views and do not reflect the views of the forum admin. Therefore those who might feel offended by my candour should, if required, raise it with the admin. Finally, to all of those who have wished us well and offered support I would like to thank you sincerely on behalf of us both 🙂 Nil carborundum illigitimum.

Hi Mark, Thank you. Since posting I recently had one of my cars paint and interior detailed, wheels refurbed and coating added. It looks great. I do try my self to keep them looking presentable but the XJ I only bought last year really need a lot of time spent on it, which I have not had. I am really pleased with the results. Having switched my allegiance from SAAB to Jaguar in or around 2008, purchased my first XF (Diesel second hand ) in 2010. See below next to my last Saab which I also still have. Owned two further XFs before switching to my current 2017 XF-S supercharged petrol. Love this car and will probably hang on to it forever 😜 . No intention of switching to EV despite test driving a Tesla S in 2019 ( ludicrous mode is exactly what it is) .

I enjoy looking in the members gallery and encourage other JOC members to post photos of their Jag, I thought a thread of Front Ends would be good to see, with a little detail if you wish. Here’s my XF which I purchased in October 2023.

...and my pair.... I've had the Sportbrake for 6 years and the X-Type for 12 months. It still has under 27k on the clock, serviced every 12 months and an interior like new. It even had the previous owners leather driving gloves in the glove box along with a bag of Werthers 🙂 It now has new sills and is fully Lanoguarded underneath. Failed 2 MOTs in its life, once for headlight aim and once for sills in 2017. Currently working on the original wheels but got some refurbed X-Triple 5 on at the moment with Goodyear Vector 3 all seasons.

Nice one Ian! This is my XK8. I've only had her for about 3 months. Endless grin!!

Just replaced the wheels on my XJ with 'Bionics' from an F-Pace, got the idea from another owner & really love the outcome 🙂 I've kept the original Callisto 20" rims too just in case I decide to swap back.

Hi all! I bought my first ever Jag today after dreaming of owning one since I was a kid. I bought a very tidy 2006 2.2l diesel X Type that has done 72k miles with full service history! Very excited to be apart of this community!

Well.....it's fixed!! After a lengthy fuse pulling exercise and replacing back.....the XF has sorted itself. Still baffled which fuse it was because it showed no obvious spiking. However, ever since for the last 2-3 weeks it is working perfectly. Can only suspect dodgy loose fuse or connection. Still not a complete answer, but thought I'd let you guys know that if you have the same trouble, this worked a treat for me.

Just like to say hello from North Lincolnshire. I've recently become an owner of a beautiful 2015 Jaguar Xf. It's a car that I've coveted since their introduction and have now realised an ambition of owning one. Today I was shown around a friend's new car, of which he was justly proud, a VW Polo 6. So enthusiastic was he that he insisted I go for a ride with him to see how it performed. Some way down the A449, we came upon a Jaguar in the inside lane and he said with relish "Let's burn this thing off the road... " I said "It's a Jaguar" his reply "Those jags are overrated" I didn't bother to enquire as to the performance of his VW. In the event, nothing came of it as we hurtled past the Jaguar without any sign of it wishing to take part in a race. I noticed the jaguar had a label on the boot. It was XJR575. I can't help thinking that my young friend was just a tad optimistic ')

Lenses crystal clear thank you. The lenses were milky when I bought the car so it was one of the first jobs to do. Followed by an Ebay kit to give me DRL lights hidden in the front indicators. Realistically, I don't see the beam pattern throwing any further; things on the road and verge are just much better lit. For some illogical reason I couldn't stick the mixture of LED and halogen main beam lighting so treated the car to main beam LEDs. It feels spectacular now.

I had a 2009 auto diesel estate. Bought with 90k miles on it sold with 140k on it. very few problems but like all cars you need to look after it. always use premium fuel, change oil and filter at approx 9k and take it for a good run about once a month. find a good independent garage that has a good reputation. I had to part with it due to health issues and having to surrender my licence, cheers Rod

I would say if it fits your criteria for your next car then yes. They always seem to get good reviews, even from those reviewers that are somewhat scathing about British cars. All depends exactly what you want but you shouldn't go too far wrong. 😉 😄

Dim lights usually points to a poor earth connection. Check the earth point for corrosion on the relevant headlight. N6 JMX

Hi Dan, sorry for your loss but I hope you find the JOC community able to assist you with your task. Appreciate you are new to the Forum, but if you explore the Forum Pages a little deeper, you will find that there is a specific section for dealing with the sale of cars. In the Forum front page, scroll to the bottom of the viewable pages and you will find there a "Sale" section. Make a post in there, listing the exact model of car including year, engine size, fuel type, mileage, condition, etc, Ideally, you should also provide an indication of the sale price you are looking for from the car - sorry I can't help you with that as I am not knowledgeable on the S-type models. You will also be able to attach some photos to show the car, ideally in a good light and a suitably picturesque location - driveway is not ideal but better than nothing. Show photos of the side, three-quarter view, rear and front. Show the fitted wire wheels in a separate image close-up. Provide an image of the interior, front and back, and one of the boot and engine bay - bonnet raised. Give mention of the MoT history, i.e. does it have a current MoT and the expiry date. Mention the service history - where it was performed and at what intervals. Let folks know how long the car was with your dad and how he used it - daily driver, weekend car, show car, etc. Hope this helps guide you to make a listing in the correct location of the site. Great weather and lots of different marques of cars, including those from Shropshire Jaguars Owners, who helped run the event. Hi Paul, No need to replace the blades. Pull off the pipes and try again. If you still have no water then your most likely problem will be gunge at the bottom of the washer bottle blocking the filter. You will probably end up removing the bottle to facilitate proper cleaning and it would also be prudent to blow through the pipes with compressed air, just in case.

Retirement, that is. I really, in all conscience can't see me driving my XF-s once I've finished work in a few months time. Althopugh she is, hands down the best car I have ever owned. So... Electric? Hybrid? A small hatchback for trips to the supermarket? A pox on that 😉 Time to start looking for my retirement car... an XF-R or maybe XF-R S 🙂 Hmm... V8, 5L, Spercharged. Sounds like an ideal retirement present to oneself 🙂

Welcome aboard Paul, similar colour to my S Type (obviously older than yours) but you must be proud to achieve your ambition. They're a knowledgeable lot on here, unlike many other prestige car forums the usual advice isn't "take it to your dealer", proper practial helpful advice is given that can often fix problems without (expensive) dealer intervention. Quick update. Still waiting for the ombudsman to rule on the £500 untraceable driver email. My car was advertised and sold on 'Copart' salvage auctions as a category 'N' (non structural) write off. There were no pictures on their website showing the damage to the inner sill and rear wheel / suspension. I will wait and see if it turns up for sale on Autotrader or Ebay ! For anyone that's interested, I have decided to replace it with a 2010 XFR that my friend is selling.

I agree with Trevor, many conversions were carried out to cars that didn't have an estate in their range back in the 60s and 70s - Ford Zephyr Mk3, Triumph Stag estates, Rover P6 "Estoura" to name just three although to be fair, the Stag estate was based on a 2000/2500 estate with a Stag engine and brakes fitted. There was also a pair of SD1 Rover estates, one produced in house by grafting on a Volvo 245 back end and the other (if memory serves) by FLM Panelcraft and Ladbroke Avon produced a Series III XJ6 estate : https://www.aronline.co.uk/cars/jaguar/xj6-xj12/avon-jaguar-estate/ Avon also produced the Avon Acclaim, essentially a Triumph Acclaim with Jaguar-like luxury and also a turbo version. Many conversions exist as aftermarket, sadly few manufacturers actually build their own estates from the drawing board onwards.

It was 4 years ago so no link I'm afraid. If you search for 'switchback' there are several kits that look a lot like the one I fitted. Here's a youtube link with a wiring diagram I copied; I didn't do the conversion to make the kit bulbs into 'proper' bayonet fittings; the rubber bungs on the kit bulbs fitted perfectly and have remained in place for 4 years, passing 3 MoT inspections in the meantime without comment.

Thanks so much to Chris and Dave for doing the legwork on this issue 👍 It look to me like the H7 twenty20 Compact is a direct fit for my 2001 as well, and while £50 for a pair of bulbs seems pricy, this is only compared to halogens, and if it's a direct fit from a tried supplier, it's cheap at half the price! They also show an H7 twenty20 precision option which is fan cooled and currently on offer. At 3600 lumen they actually produce less than the 4000 lumen Compact, so generally the Compact is the better choice right? https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/h7-twenty20-precision-led-12v-477-headlight-bulbs-pair.html They list an H3 Twenty20 compact for my main beam too, along with a pricier Osram LED version. I'd be tempted to stick with the Twenty20s if these have proven good upgrades. I'm glad I deferred sorting this out as the tech seems to have caught up with what I need. I can now get upgraded lighting without a ton of rewiring or exchanging headlamp units. Given the amount of work I want to do on the car, this is great for me! 😀

Hi there David. Pics look lovely but as per previous thread, would need more information really. Aware car age is MOT exempt, but can be useful for car to have MOT To prove roadworthiness, Believe manual from pics. Does car still run and drive ok? Ant problems/issues with gearbox/brakes etc. Finally any service history with car. Receipts for work done etc, More info you can provide, hopefully will allow a more accurate valuation. As car could be pristine and worth A, or only really useful for spares and worth Z. Dont think its the latter due to pics, but need details to try and judge at what point it falls in the alphabet. I'd just do a search on cars and classic/ebay etc, and try to find what you think is a similar car and set a price from there.

Get hold of an aircon bomb and try that. If that doesn’t cure it then further investigation is required.
