Hi Joesph.....welcome to the Club
Its one of those things that is quite commonplace on a lot of modern engines and with the constant thought of oil pump or timing chain failure in your mind it can detract from the enjoyment of driving and owning the car.
I would personally service it to the hilt and enjoy it and not let the concerns put you off....saying that though I would still listen out for any noises that weren't there before to be on the safe side 🙂

Hi Alan.....welcome to the Club
Hopefully you can find the next Jaguar of your dreams (or memories to be more precise).
It will go well with the collection of cars and bikes you already have
Good to have you onboard!
Hi Stephen.....welcome to the Club
Feel free to start up a local Jagaur Owners Club meeting in your area if you wish.
We can assist with promoting the meetings (usually local pub with large carpark) when COVID restrictions finally lift
The only thing I can think of is the valve clearances if the valve seats were to recede slightly due to running on poor quality fuel and pre-ignition which can cause this (best to run on 97 octane and additives)
If clearances change then re-shimming may become necessary
Hi Grant.....welcome to the Club
I would advise carrying out a search in the forums to see what faults come up for these models and engines
Hope you find a good example of the Jaguar you're after, I'm sure there's some good ones out there
Hi.....welcome to the club
I would be tempted to disconnect the battery, leave for a short while and then reconnect (negative off first and on last).
The try to plip the locks with the key fob and see if it reads the keys after a few attempts.
Here's some info on battery reset but for S-Type but some functions may not work but may also be helpful to see procedures
Hi Tony......welcome to the Club
That is worrying if it cuts whilst driving.
Has the car had enough prolonged usage to charge the battery?
If not, this can lead to similar issues as can leaving the car sat for many days/weeks at a time.
Has the fuel filter been replaced recently?
Hi David....welcome to the Club
I agree with Peter, sounds like the pre-heater emitting fumes into the cabin.
Ensure it is not running constantly and that it times out after a few minutes
